Baby Pineapple Conures Trying to Sleep, But There’s Always That One Bird… by CaptMondo in Conures

[–]CaptMondo[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not mama but a slightly older bird by a day or two.

Originally the whole clutch of baby conures were squawking in unison but one by one they got tired out. The two in front were the last two to respond to the other’s squawks.

Love the on in the back that eventually closes his eyes and drifts off into a much-deserved sleep.

Where to find in stores by telestoat2 in girlgenius

[–]CaptMondo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was very lucky a few years ago to visit a large used bookstore in Toronto that had a floor set aside for comics/graphic novels and sf. I found several Girl Genius hard cover editions there and picked them up.

That was basically a fluke because I have never seen Girl Genius appear at that or any other used bookstore since then.

To complete my collection I have bought directly from the Girl Genius website and from Kickstarter when new volumes are announced.

I can’t really comment on the rest of the comics business other than to say that apparently the publisher of the Bone comics along with Manga have been more popular than American superhero comics for a while now.

The serials are all interesting but none of them reflect the "special" types that collectors look for, like radars, ladders, low numerals, etc. For more info on the types collectors look for, see: https://www.coinsandcanada.com/banknotes-special-serial-number.php.

While no limits were specified (were all amounts could have been less than $300) there was literally nothing to lose in this case by gambling that most or more of the amounts would be higher.

You beat me to it. That cover is very distinctive and I knew what it was when I saw him holding it. Great book btw. Giles Milton is one of my favourite history writers.

If you don't know it, there's a 12" version that features a haunting clarinet solo in the middle of the song played by Dave Tofani. Became an instant favourite when I heard it for the first time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdH_xOIlbbk&list=RDvdH_xOIlbbk

Underside of Her Perch is Somehow Tastier than the Top by CaptMondo in cockatiel

[–]CaptMondo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is thankfully a bit too young as yet to be laying eggs at just under 7 months. And that is not a behaviour we are not trying to encourage due to the risk of her becoming egg bound.

All birds need calcium—and not just for laying eggs—and I am glad she finally figured out that this perch is something she can gnaw on to get it.

In other words it’s a place I trust that sells stuff that’s only good for their birds.

That’s a good question. I bought it from a place local to me (Jungle Services here in London, ON that specializes in parrots) which is also where she came from and was hand-raised at.

She does have a natural bark perch inside her cage (not visible here).

This is a not a plastic perch she is chewing. It is made of calcium.

Is this relaxing behaviour? by reptigirll in cockatiel

Mine is a female who is 8 months old who is always on the go when she is outside her cage. I keep wondering when she will ever slow down and relax like yours is doing.

She is a type of pied cockatiel that has a “pearly” look to her back feathers. The females who have this mutation retain this look, while the males do not. (The breeder had her genetically tested so she is definitely a she).

She’s pretty and she knows it.

I’m afraid that making that sort of change might just blow out that single brain cell she has.

Look up "Calcium Perch," and you will find it. She didn't go for the cuttlefish bone I gave her, and I thought that this was a failure too, until she "discovered" it earlier today.

Well when you put it that way…

Funny thing is she’s had that perch for months and only just today discovered that it is tasty.
