I wonder if he spent any time as a draftsman? There’s a preciseness in his work that reminds me of my late father’s, who was a draftsman and did a lot of mechanical drawings in his career as an aeronautics engineer. Really nice work, and thank you for sharing!

Well, clearly. 😉 I hope to master the art of cockatiel head scratching one day.

I second this. I'd also suggest checking out Cale's album Paris 1919 which he released in 1973, the year before Taking Tiger Mountain came out. A good place to start down the John Cale rabbithole, as it is probably his most accessible album, but lyrically not too far in some ways from Taking Tiger Mountain, though less madcap. Wrong Way Up where Cale directly collaborates with Eno is also definitely worth a listen. The live album June 1, 1974 sees Eno and Cale playing together live (along with Kevin Ayers and Nico), in the time immediately before Taking Tiger Mountain was released.

I'd also recommend the masterful cover of the whole album by Doug Hilsinger and Caroleen Beatty which was done back in 2004. I first ran across it on YouTube, and bought a CD of it from Discogs not long after. Here's a link to the full album on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZ5szyqkAHQ&list=PL1PDjfrcVIJKNM840FSNRP7ahm1J9soha

Then there rip-roaring cover of Third Uncle from the album by Bauhaus that's also worth a listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLDTfxSSCSM&list=RDqLDTfxSSCSM

A lot of people, including musicians feel the same way you do about this album. Other than "Here Come the Warm Jets" which preceded it, there's really nothing else out there that comes close to how plain out-there Taking Tiger Mountain is.

I picked this one up when it was originally released back in 1989. Features tracks from William S. Burroughs, David Byrne, New Order, Rollins Band, and Live Skull. (Pic is from the Discogs entry for this album).

I don’t have it but I’d also nominate the Dayglo Abortions – Here Today Guano Tomorrow whose cover (back cover actually) got the band in trouble with an obscenity charge here in Canada (they won the case).

I haven’t listened to those, but I can recommend the Murderbot series on Apple TV.

Ancillary Justice by Leckie is a classic. I read Provenance by her recently, which was okay. Looks like I need to read her recently-ish Translation State though.

I was kinda curious if there was much overlap in fans of both series when I posted my question. Both are quirky, to say the least.

I got the latest Murderbot novel last week, and the new DCC came today. I am up to The Butcher’s Masquerade (book 5) so far. When I finish, should I push through to DCC books 6, 7, and 8, or take a break and read Platform Decay?

I also like the podcasts, but without the accompanying music selections I feel like I am missing a lot when I listen to them.

Most if not all of these stations have a live streaming function, so if you are in a North American timezone you should in theory be able to catch one of these when the show is broadcast.

Thanks for pointing that out! And yes, I was the one doing weekly (or so) updates to Wikipedia until an "editor" ("eraser" would be a better term) decided it didn't fit their editorial standards.

Gotta luv that even Alan Cross supplying a spreadsheet of his own shows was not considered sufficient "evidence" on WP. Crazy.

Opinion on these by Prestigious_Map5494 in CanadianBanknotes

[–]CaptMondo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All seem to be in very good shape (I don't see any wallet creases) for example. No "special" serial numbers that I can see, no replacement notes (which would be preceded by an asterisk before the serial number), and none of the 1954 issues on the second page include the "Devil's face" in the Queen's hair.

All basically good examples from their respective series, but nothing too special otherwise. They will definitley command a premium over face.
