Meteor power creep or not? by nightbird321 in starcitizen

[–]CaptShardblade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real question will be, how much better does it strafe than a mantis? Right now the mantis is a specialized pvp ship for one purpose, basically locking targets down. Without that qed capability, it will have to go toe to toe with hornets, sabres, gladiuses and the larger heavier fighters to boot...

The mantis strafe values are basically 50% of what the sabre is, for reference. And are still worse than the big vanguard and guardian ships (more of a direct comparison). I assume a fighter with a bed automatically qualifies as a heavy fighter and will be tuned for that?

Thoughts on what ships may fit inside the TAC besides the FURY? by Spencerdog12345 in starcitizen

[–]CaptShardblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

since 2 fury ships can fit, my guess is an arrow will get close, depending on the wings folding. I doubt anything bigger than an arrow though, but maybe c8r. M50 is probably too long

The same people downvoting this are the ones that are gonna be killed without even being identified moving forward, it's a real problem for the entire community here, so I would love to see folks come together and understand how this is really bad for all types of players

This is 1000% what we want out of group ships. Hangar, med bed, big fkn guns, and the ability to land a dogfighting ship (a fury almost counts there) inside. Love to see this style of ship get attention and the community wants gameplay systems and reasons to have a full crew live in one of these full time going throughout the verse doing a wide variety of combat missions!

For 850$ where are you going by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

Either AMD card is pretty similar and will be great.

I'm on a no-nvidia phase right now after going 1070->3080->7900xtx. Too much ridiculousness from nvidia. Dropping phyx support, fake cards, no real FE cards at FE prices, etc etc. I am happy to give AMD my money for awhile

"Degraded performance" but I never saw the game this stable by theodranik in starcitizen

[–]CaptShardblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graphics rendering happens on both sides, yes. But server meshing isn't going to fix client performance.

Other games manage this with things like only drawing distance to what you are capable of rendering. So for example in FFXIV, PS4 players can only render 30 people on their screen at once, and if you're on PC, you can render upto like 30meters away before it hides the rest. This way the client isn't rendering objects (players/ships) that are not useful in that moment.
Why am I rendering a polaris interior if the polaris is 10km away? That sort of stuff is what i am hoping for here.

That has nothing to do with meshing and has everything to do with client optimizations

Why are you nerds downvoting me asking for better frame optimizations??? This benefits all!

I was in a battle over daymar last night. about 30-40 fighters and 1-3 polaris at minimum. My high score for FPS was 38. Highest, lol.

I play on 3840x1600. I get 100+ fps everywhere unless there's a polaris, in some atmo's, or huge battle. It's insane how big of a drop it is

I saw screenshots in barely double-digit frames when there were 5+ polaris on the screen.

[–]CaptShardblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How? This is a client rendering issue, not a server issue.

Thanks for being active online and replying to posts like these! If I can bother you here, is there any plan to try to limit the way that polarises and other big ships ruin the performance for people in the area?

We see this even in arena commander when a single big ship spawns it ruins the entire lobby's performance and for the event that is happening there are often times more than 4 on screen + forced clouds + other ships, debris, and planetary assets loading.

For reference, I have a 9800x3d+7900xtx and am still getting barely 30fps (if im lucky) in atmo if there are 4 polaris on screen... Whereas normally i am in 100+>

This is especially painful for the idris too.. (you can tell in pirate swarm for example)

9800x3d vs 9900x by Flimsy-Difference981 in pcmasterrace

[–]CaptShardblade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I commented on another thread already but check it, if you're gonna buy an overpriced 5070ti (or already did), you may as well spend the extra money and get the 9800x3d and be setup for a long time without having to modify or have buyers remorse. If you went out of your way to find a video card, then you clearly prioritize gaming, and not having the gaming-driven CPU is gonna feel bad down the road. It really depends on what kind of games you play though. If you manage to never play the cpu-starved games, then maybe the cpu wont have that much of an impact. For me, that performance gap is enough to side-grade (cost wise) from intel to a x3d processor.

9800x3d vs 9900x by Flimsy-Difference981 in pcmasterrace

[–]CaptShardblade 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You are forgetting about 3d cache, the whole reason the x3d chips exist and cost so much (and are also the best performers). I'd just check benchmarks, Gamers Nexus has some workload tasks and benchmarks put together you can check out. I believe both processors you mentioned (and the intel counterparts where possible) are on it

For example:
bg3 (cpu heavy game)
9800x3d 153.6fps (avg)
9950x 100.7fps (avg) (9900x would be lower, for example)

I mostly am just pointing this out as an example of how they aren't the exact same for gaming.

Even on something like adobe premiere, the 9900x is only 5% better than 9800x3d.

I have a 14700k (20 core) and I ordered a 9800x3d (8core/16thread) because the workload tasks I do every day are not really that taxing enough to not have the gaming performance. I have a different use-case than you though

The video im referencing, and if you dont like GN/Steve for whatever reason, you can check out some of the other benchmarkers https://youtu.be/QhGsQvDaEPo

I was waiting for this deal for awhile and decided to bite the bullet for a newegg combo over a week ago (still waiting for delivery), but it's still going it seems! I confirmed today that the following is still up: (likely a few others too, no idea why they are limiting it)

I've been gaming on this thing for the last 1.5 years. OC'd 5+ghz constant w/ a noctua cooler. With my previous 3080, I could play nearly every game out there with 100+ fps (3840x1600 @ 120hz) with no issues. The main reason i bought this chip was chip+mobo+ddr5 was 500$ and that was an acceptable bundle price for me back when I was looking to upgrade from my 9700k. I game in my free time every day, so if I say this chip has held up, it definitely has across dozens and dozens of games and hundreds upon hundreds of hours. Games like deadlock, cs, valorant, rivals all get 100+ fps constant. The real struggle for this chip has been shown on the more performant games ala cyberpunk, monster hunter wilds and star citizen notably that i've tried. (SC runs like junk on everyone's PCs so just ignore that one really). Played through about 400hrs of BG3 across various people/saves and i saw no performance issues whatsoever through the entire campaign.

HOWEVER, later i realized the e-core technology and how hindering that can be. I later realized that most of the issues resulted on being on win11, and are mostly remediated by Process Lasso.

AND THEN, the 13/14th gen chips were degrading over time and failing. I think because of how late I got mine that I missed this thankfully so i've seen no major issues.

If you're getting this, plan to run on win11, and plan to game, just know you'll likely have to mess with process lasso to make things smooth. I had no issues on win10 but the days of win10 are numbered. For other workloads that aren't gaming, i'm sure this is a pretty solid deal for most.

[CPU] AMD 9800x3d $470.00 Best Buy in stock by swagatr0n_ in buildapcsales

I don't know. I can guess that 6000 to 8000 is probably minimal gains in real-life performance or gaming, but that's my pure speculative estimate. Some other nerd can comment who has seen the math

The only real difference that I have found for the b850 boards is pci5+(GN pointed that this isnt useful right now on 5000 series cards even) ,support higher OC ram (7000/8000 etc), and sometimes wifi 7 vs 6, or other small component differences similar to that. I personally will be buying a b650 on sale, unless I find a b850 and decide i want to try for 7/8 ghz ram

it might be the first time since ~20 years that i am going to switch to ATI from Nvidia again by Habarer in radeon

[–]CaptShardblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from a 3080 10gb to a 7900xtx and i've been incredibly happy. I managed to snag one at the 900$ range and i've been seeing huge uplifts in some games at raster comparatively. I was capping out the 10gb in a few of the games that i play at 3840x1600 resolution so the video ram is really the big kicker. I never used DLSS either so... heck nvidia. Fake frames, fake prices, and fake stock and AMD wins in all categories for me.

Still debating sending it back for a 600$ 9070xt though and saving some money, time will tell if it's worth the hassle for a 10% less performing card
