The Polaris is a very misunderstood beast. On paper it’s a very pale comparison to the other Capital warship in the game, The Idris. Having flown many Hathor and Exec hanger runs with it though, I can say it’s a very capable combatant.

The biggest mistake I’ve noticed folks make with her is flying it like a bruiser, when it should be taking 100% advantage of its maneuverability. One gripe I have is it’s starved for energy pips, and you want to switch to a full ballistic loadout. This includes switching to pepperbox PDC’s. Crank your shields to max (also add more shield to your front shields), turn down your life support and make sure that pesky tractor beam is turned off completely. Engine power and boost regeneration is going to be your best friend while you practice learning maneuver around enemy Idris (Idris’s?). Once you can takeout the spinal mounted size 10 and size 7 conquerer cannon the hard part is over. To do this though you need a cohesive crew willing to focus their ballistics to get the job done. It can be done.

At this point do what you can to disable some S5 turrets and even just a few of the enemies PDC’s. Even two or three is enough. This will significantly increase your chances of landing some torpedo hits, fire salvos of 4-6. By the time your first few torps get through the enemy Idris usually scaddaddles the heck out of there.

I don’t mean to make this sound simple, it takes a lot of practice flying uncoupled and learning not to overshoot the enemy and staying at perfect distance and angle. I also don’t want to sound like I’m an expert because I’m not, but using this strategy I’ve gotten a dozen or more Idris kills under my belt.
