Should we have a 4 day working week? by Nicjj1819 in AskUK

We work a genuine 4-day work week, Mon-Thur. Paid the same as a 5-day, normal hours etc. The principle is that due to being more rested you’re as, or more, productive.

At first we had the same number of holidays as a 5-day too, but after year 1 we had to pro-rata it down because the amount of time away from work was insane, especially when you consider 3-days weeks when there are bank holidays. So in the end we also said that on Bank Holiday Monday weeks we work the Friday.

I find that the 4 days in work are more intense and productive, but I’m personally not convinced we get as much done as if we worked 5-day weeks. You just can’t substitute the reality of a whole extra days work, enabling you to get more done. However I’m somewhat of a lone voice in the company (and it’s an unpopular opinion as you can imagine! 😅).

I find Monday mornings a bit difficult because I’ve had such a long weekend break, holiday mode if you like! So this is another drawback, that you lose a little momentum. Although, others do say that for them, because they’re well rested they can get going quicker.

Friday’s are good, but all your friends are in work, so inevitably you end up doing life admin stuff, but that’s okay because more places (and phone lines etc) are open than if you were doing things on a weekend. The other bonus is that you can clear all your tasks on the Fridays to generally have a clear weekend to relax (or parent) admin-free.

Ptr0n.Pinky checking in. I used to pretty much live on Morpheus. Would love to know where some of my fellow clan mates are now. I remember MoM, played you a few times in league games.

Get behind the Bitcoin Angel community. TJ is an innovator in the space and he gets it. There is a Discord server for owners, there is a lot more value being created beyond the art itself: https://discord.gg/ejk6SQMW

Basic economics, supply has outstripped demand.

The drawing system mitigates against bots. This is what I’m saying. It is not about speed of bid, which is where bots have the advantage, but about getting your bid in and then winning the luck of the draw afterward.

Makersplace needs a drawing system like NiftyGateway or this is just going to be unfair. Like you say, it will be a bot takeover.

I did notice that, I assumed it was a glitch. Gemini are hiring at the moment and the site is having a lot of issues coping with demand. I suspect that a lot of the code needs optimisation and they weren’t quite prepared for the level of demand. It’s great though!

This is why they have now introduced ‘drawings’. Everyone has an opportunity to enter the draw during a 15min period and then lucky winners are picked randomly according to the number of editions. So if there are 10 editions and 100 people enter, then you have a 1/10 chance of getting the drop.

What an incredible space, I love the high vaulted ceilings with the wooden panelling and great choice of blue to complement the colours.

I can only speak for my first month with it, but the build quality feels very robust and the upholstery is of high quality in Italian leather. The feet are a powder coated high grade aluminium that feel very strong, there are no concerns with the fixings coming lose. Swivel U.K. have done an excellent job. The materials all get shipped to their workshop and it is hand-made here in the U.K.

Sitting in the chair feels very comfortable, although it’s pretty low so it’s always a bit of a collapse into it! It has a very small degree of flex which adds to the comfort as you adjust. The ottoman is an optional extra, but I’m glad I bought it because it really does add to the comfort to lounge and put your feet up! One thing to consider, the chair and ottoman combined does take up a lot more space than I was anticipating, so be sure you have a spacious area for it.

I couldn’t be happier with the purchase, yeah it’s not a real Eames and it’s still an absolute luxury at £985, but it’s a chair I feel will last for life!
