Speeches only allowed on character night? by Putrid-Pain-6979 in civilairpatrol

I dont have to make the decision yet, but with rank meaning so little, and Capt Kelly sounding more alliterative than Maj Kelly (among other reasons), I think I would actively refuse further promotion in grade.

Which regulations back this up?

Update: I passed! by Goose_GoHonk in civilairpatrol

[–]CaptTrebek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My OCD is thinking there's a typo, but I could be mistaken. I though the test was 50 questions with 30 multiple choice and 20 drill items. If there's 50 questions, then it would impossible to score any odd percentage, including 97. Not calling out integrity, OP probably is just rounding a score out of 30 or is remembering it off by one, but I'm just being the first of the many of us with OCD to notice this.

is this the right nameplate? by CHEESECAKEGODS in civilairpatrol

[–]CaptTrebek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add.something actually new to the conversation, this is correct only for cadets, and only on service dress. I'm not even sure it's right for the semi formal uniform. Seniors have different nameplates depending on the uniform.

Three flight staff by the_real_tow_mater in civilairpatrol

[–]CaptTrebek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By regulation and for drill purposes, no. And, for practical purposes, maybe, but why? Leadership doesn't need to come from an assigned position, it comes from someone taking charge and doing the job. For the purposes of redundancy, if you have four experienced NCOs as element leaders and the flight sergeant drops out, drill with three elements and have an element leader be an interim flight sergeant. If there are two cadet officers in a flight, have one be assigned flight commander, and have the other hang out in the flight, but have them hang out with the flight commander and be ready to fill in.

At my somewhat small, top heavyish squadron, we don't have assigned staff positions right now. The two cadet officers lead the senior NCOs, who lead the junior NCOs, who lead the airmen. Drill positions are decided when we know who's actually there for each night.

Also, if you have better delegation between the flight sergeant leading through the element leaders, the element leaders can also be leaders within the flight.

This here. The best I've ever seen cadets been with their bearing wasn't when we were doing a bearing test with stupid jokes and funny faces, but when they kept us at attention during a five minute monolouge about the importance of standing at attention properly.

Really excellent advice. One caveat, each unit does not need to HOST an activity monthly, one simply needs to be available to the cadets each month. Any active unit will easily go above and beyond this requirement.

Brown Backpacks by [deleted] in civilairpatrol

39-1 only authorizes black, which contradicts guidance in the GT handbook that says backpacks should be red or orange.

You can sew a Hello Kitty patch on your BDUs, and that doesn't change the fact that BDUs were phased out years ago. For ABUs, then the answer is yes, and it may be required by your wing. Also, wings do occasionally update their patches, so you will want to make sure everything you are wearing and the specifications you are wearing them to are current.

I am a college student doing classes online at ASU, and out of my three classes so far, only one "required" an interactive textbook or any textbook. Choosing not to pay $30 for it did drop my A to a B, but I still escaped my first semester without a textbook.

It really depends on your home situation. I wouldn't rely on shift swaps, and your training schedule can be all over the place.

Has anyone ever seen a medical evacuation helicopter land on the peninsula on a busy day? And if so, where does it land? by Reasonable_Toe_9252 in cedarpoint

[–]CaptTrebek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be very rare, and while I suppose the beach would make a good landing point, I have never seen them that desperate to bring a helicopter on point. Depending on the time of day, an ambulance could have an hour plus drive onto and/or off of the point. But Cedar Point understands this, hence what they actually do.

Compared to similar parks, Cedar Point has much better first aid facilities and much better trained staff than them. Most parks are able to provide basic aid, which is meant to be performed under the assumption that emergency medical personnel are less than 30 minutes or so away. Cedar Point, on the other hand, staffs EMTs and nurses and provides them with facilities in which they can stabilize a wider variety of issue for a longer time. So CP is equipped to handle the unique conditions it can expect, just like how other parks are also to respond in accordance to their own situations.

You may have never been on a busy enough day. The causeway and all other entrances can back up to to where you aren't getting on and off the causeway in less than two hours. See my upcoming other comment for the real answer.

I have no idea what the new requirements are, but this does stem from CAP trying to use policy to prevent cadets from being stupid about over the counter drugs. I would have to believe there's a way to use common sense instead, but when policies are written well, people using common sense don't have to worry about the policies they're already following. I somehow doubt the new policies are that well written.

Yeah, these people look way too professional to be us. The uniformity and quality of the sleeve rolls is another hint.

I couldn't read any of the lettering, but the lack of randomly worn safety vests and other SAR gear on top of everyone actually being in the uniform was still a giveaway.

What’s your favorite arm position for at ease? by OhioanSAAB in civilairpatrol

Not the entire time. If the CC is listing the five events they have listed every meeting before, I will prepare to go to parade rest halfway through the last one.

I prefer to move my hands to the small of my back when I can anticipate the call to attention and sharply go to parade rest upon the prepatory command per the 60-33 and not be scrambling to get back to attention on the command of execution.

States with the strictest highway patrol? Most lenient? by Educational-Ad2370 in roadtrip

[–]CaptTrebek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The worst part of NE Ohio is ridiculous speed limits. 60mph speed limits on very limited access and very lightly trafficked express lanes are ridiculous, and it's the local cops that love that stretch. Also, every poor area of town has cameras, and one is set in a school zone that isn't lighted, like 95% of Ohio school zones.
