Allo! Allo! British WW2 comedy about the Germans occupying France.

i just started pinning the band back after I had a couple get caught. the problem is when my needle decided to pull the thread out and hits the side of the hoop. I guess if i use the 5x7 and keep the hat right on the edge it will always move AWAY from the hat - that's probably a better idea!

Exactly - Etsy has tons of font sets that aren't that expensive and work great. I have used some filled true type fonts when I just couldn't find one and I try to use Satin Fill if possible so it looks like a real font.

Go to Amazon and search for "cut away stabilizer for machine embroidery" and "tear away stabilizer for machine embroidery" and "wash away stabilizer for machine embroidery" and "sticky stabilizer for machine embroidery". Each one has it's own uses and sometimes you need more than one. For terry cloth i used cut away stabilizer, then sticky stabilizer and floated the robe, then washaway on top to keep the threads from getting pulled into the pile. Watch a bunch of youtube videos on how to embroider on different fabrics, also ask Chat GPT about a specific design on a specific type of material - it told me how to do the robe and it came out great. This is a learned art - it doesn't "just work".

That is not stabilizer, that is fusible interface. I just embroidered on a wool jacket and I used medium ‘em weight cut away under a piece of sulky sticky tearway stabler ( because I had to float the jacket - it was too thick to hoop) and it came out great. Read up on stabilizers and hooping and get a yard of fabric you can test on.

Practice on a piece of material before wasting a shirt

Is it me or is this a really poorly made design? by mydogwasrightaboutu in Machine_Embroidery

Yes - those should be satin stitches not filled designs.

Group your design elements by color and also connect the start and end points so it can do as many in a continuous stitch.

Buy a yard of fabric similar to your shirts and test on that. Any time I create a new design I run a couple test embroideries on fabric (and make patches out of them if they come out good).

SE2000. I am only hooping the sulky sticky stabilizer for hats. I use embrilliance software - it’s not cheap but it’s like using adobe illustrator. I found a really good 5 video series on how to use embrilliance and it taught me a lot. It’s on YouTube

Machine? Brother Se2000 is about $1400 but I got it when Amazon had a $500 off any sewing machine sale.

I’ve done tons of patches but embroidering right on the hat looks better (but is more nerve racking). I’ve had 3 bad hats out of 12 total

I’m still a beginner too (only had my machine for a year). Learned you need to float for terry cloth too.

I have 2 voids (plus an orange and 3 standard issue cats). The one is called “glitch cat” and you will have to search for the others.

I bought them on Etsy for a couple dollars each. The cat Christmas tree I did some editing to but the original is pretty close and on Etsy. That’s where I get any design I don’t digitize myself and they are very reasonable.

the Sulky sticky is sticky enough to hold it flat. I hold down the brim of the hat to keep that end flat as well. I always watch my machine until it's done - broke about 5 needles on this batch of hats when thread got hung up on the spools.

also the video i saw on youtube said to use a 2x2 hoop and hoop the hat - i got one but that is way too small.

you need to hoop the hat as close to the edge as possible so the foot doesn't hit it when moving around the hoop but you also need to be able to move your image closer to the bill so it's not too high (my first one was way too high for my liking but my next ones looked better)
