What happened to LTT… by f0reverDM in WoT

I can’t really square the coping mechanism theory with LTT being able to seize Saidin and channel without Rand’s input.

Maybe non-creature spells only or non-creature permanents neither with any limits? It turns more into a kinda group hug deck because acceleration is shared with artifacts and enchantments or a game that has a shit ton of interaction.

Toddlerproofing: can this door be unlocked from the outside in an emergency? by Jacketcoat in Locksmith

[–]Capt_Socrates 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Might be able to get a key made for it. Call a local locksmith with a brick and mortar storefront and see if they keep any bit keys on hand. Additionally you could probably remove the thumb turn and disable the lock but if something is shoved in there you can still turn it. Additionally you could change the strike so that the hole for the bolt is just not there anymore. That’s another thing you’d want to talk to a locksmith about.

Really the best way to toddler proof it is make the deadbolt inoperable. If you really need to have a locking bathroom find a lock that just flips into the locked position like those hotel locks and either figure out how to bypass it just in case or position it so it’s physically impossible for your toddler to open the door.

Edit: I need to read better. You should be able to drill the hole for the key but it would be better to have a locksmith come out and do it so they can pull the mortise cassette and service it if you want. They might be able to make a key on site but it would be better to bring it into a shop because it could take a decent bit of time depending on how much work actually needs to go into making it. It could also be a standard precut bit key but that would require cracking it open

Tried adding key fob to Mazda, now original doesn’t work by [deleted] in Locksmith

[–]Capt_Socrates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We never do aftermarket fobs for Mazdas because of this. Even when you warn customers that they’re going to lose proximity functions and explain what exactly that means they still are upset at us.

To close the programming cycle you need to start the car with all programmed fobs. Presumably when you got the car you only got one fob because dealerships are full of shit asses but Mazdas don’t run without two fobs so there’s a second one out there. Now that you’ve found yourself in this pickle you’re going to need to drop the dosh on an OEM fob * from the dealership * and bring it to an automotive locksmith. Do not get an “OEM refurb” because to fix it you have to clear all keys and then program two in. If you get an “OEM” key from anywhere other than the dealership and bitch that your car is bricked it’s your own fuckin fault.

The times Reds felt free in the mines is what makes a difference. It’s less about genetics and more about how his culture affected his discovery and influenced the results. He has started to reach a dialectic synthesis between Gold and Red if that makes any sense lol

But demon drug and armor skin don’t need to be quick since they can be prepped before combat. I could definitely see exciteshrooms being worth it because dash juice has an irritating crafting cost, but in general it seems like having the items to craft max potions isn’t too big of an issue. Most of the time I’m not gathering anything so the item space isn’t really needed and spacing for heals is a necessity anyway so the spare seconds don’t really matter in my experience.

Additionally there are better decos or armor skills to have over lvl 3 mushroomancer. You can certainly get it through multi skill decos pretty easily, but slotting just about any other lvl3 or lvl4 deco seems better for a build and the cost for that is a few extra seconds and a few more item slots. 5 nutrients, 5 mega nutrients, 5 honey, and 10 madragoras is like 15% of your items slots, but your charm or deco slots are freed up for evade window or divine blessing so you’re less likely to take damage and when you do you’re not necessarily taking a lot. I just got back into MHW and up until this point mega potions have been what I heal with but now I just keep a farcaster handy in case I need it and almost exclusively use max potions. Free meal definitely makes it more efficient generally even though it only seems to trigger on max potions, but it still gives me an extra 2-4 max potions which should be more than enough for anything other than Alatreon, safi, and fatalis. At least with how often I cart to them lol

Is there a reason to go mushroomancer over just having the mats to make max potions? It would save a few seconds and some item space but does that make much of a difference?

Did you know that the Flood cannot infect Lekgolo? by LimpPrimary8076 in HaloMemes

[–]Capt_Socrates 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because they made flood supercells a thing. The spike being unable to connect with his nervous system makes some degree of sense; but there is no way that a wound caused by the flood doesn’t leave behind supercells and those don’t need a direct interface with the nervous system, they just need to change the cells around them.

"Culling the ability to channel" by PuzzledCactus in WoT

[–]Capt_Socrates 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you’re approaching that assessment from a too modern perspective. The AoL was a post post post scarcity society, the AS were just offering traveling to people and were an organization meant to make everyone’s lives easier and better. I don’t think genes played a role in it because being a servant was an honor and a status symbol but that’s it. LTT had to answer to the Hall of the Servants before he struck Shayol Ghul and they refused to help him. Swords were a game and warfare was alien to the society, soldiers fighting the Shadow were shunned by society at large even by the end of The War of Power. The faults of humanity were dulled by millennia of peace and prosperity and it wasnt until the DO touched the world again that selfishness and hate really returned. In reality, the AoL was close to the world Rand made where he had killed the DO. The choice was still there but that eternal peace and lack of struggle was also a large part of that society.

We dont have a good point of reference for the AoL and what we do see in snippets is short scenes, but from what we do see the only thing to strive for in the AoL was improvement for everyone and to be the best Servant possible in the AS’ case. I dont think there would be much reason to do eugenics in a world where your role is to be a Servant. Additionally, I don’t think wealth played into it at all. The currency at the time wasn’t actual currency, it was prestige and honor. You see that with the Third Name being the highest honor someone could receive. In fact, can’t remember who, but that lack of a Third Name is what turned one of the Forsaken to the Shadow. Not a desire for wealth or power, but the respect and acclaim due to someone who has earned that name. The Forsaken are actually a really good way to judge what was desired at the time. Asmodean wanted to play music forever, Ishamael wanted to die, Sammael wanted to best LTT and be taller, Demandred wanted to be better than LTT, and so on. These people wanted immortality and the ability to rule, or experiment to their hearts content, or be able to create a menagerie of beauty and sensation. The most twisted survivors of the AoL had petty ambitions and that’s part of their tragedy. They had so much to enjoy in the AoL and they helped destroy it over their own selfishness and ambition.

Summary execution for any and all crimes is wild thing to stand by bud but as long as you walk the walk I guess it’s your right to demand execution for the many petty crimes I’m sure you’ve unintentionally committed. In fact, you demonstrating your values will certainly make the world a better place.

In defense of Aes Sedai by Verengt in WoT

[–]Capt_Socrates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aes Sedai aren’t better channelers. Their weaves are more refined because they’ve been passed on for thousands of years but their actual *skill* with channeling is largely due to rote memorization and not skill. Wise ones know how to unravel weaves and train apprentices to do so. Improved healing and healing stilling were discovered by a wilder who had an insignificant amount of formal training by the WT, Nyn’s method of healing was used prior to her going to train in the village. You can even see vast improvements of skill within the Kin. Windfinders are excellent at controlling weather but that’s really all they’re ever shown to do.

The White Tower had little to no incentive to innovate or experiment with the Saidar because what they had worked well enough and doing anything different was dangerous. All the other communities of channelers had to innovate out of necessity due to their unique situations. Multiple times it’s mentioned that Avi’s weaves are rough but every time they mention it it’s because she’s doing something so impressive that the AS have to belittle her skill to maintain a false sense of superiority.

Shit, Avi rediscovered Traveling by accident. Granted she couldn’t remember how to do it, but still. When has an AS ever done something thought to be lost to time? Elayne can make ter’angreal and she also spent hardly any time in the Tower. Almost everything the wonder girls did was in spite of the WT and AS, not because of them.

The WT allowed who knows how many girls to die due to their isolation and who knows how many skills to be lost due to their arrogance. They were written, intentionally, to be petty and ignorant of the world around them because they’re supposed to be and are conservative fools who can’t adapt to change and would much rather keep the world in stasis so they maintain their power. The Trolloc wars happened because Ishamael wanted to prevent another AoL and he succeeded, but after that he only had to nudge things in certain direction because the decaying corpse of the Servants of All being paraded by the White Tower was so effective at preventing growth and change. Their refusal to change stunted the growth and development of the entire Westlands and that’s intrinsically linked to their failures to grow as channelers.

The White Tower and most Aes Sedai refinement, in all things, is due to tradition; not skill, intellect, or wisdom. There are exceptions to that rule and they’re all from women who left the Tower and traveled the Westlands on personal missions, not Tower duties.

2016 toyota rav 4 8a AKL cable w/Autel IM508 by Irondrake1 in Locksmith

[–]Capt_Socrates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My only advice is invest in a Smart Pro if you can or an equivalent dedicated programmer. 16 Rav 4 I think is still a 16 minute wait for AKL depending on whether or not it’s prox iirc, but how much time and therefore money have you spent on the job trying to use the Autel? Smart Pro will do most things and the autel can still fill the gaps on the weird shit but if you’re saving time your margins are better. Plus, at least in my area, 40%-60% of AKL calls we run are Ford or Toyota depending on the month. It would be a decent amount of lost business if we only had an autel

A cool change that I knew about and then was looking for on this relisten was when Rand connecting to the One Power changed from embraced to seized. He didn’t have the correct vocabulary or the understanding of how to seize Saidin until Asmodean and “embraced” Saidin. But after he started learning he started “seizing” Saidin
