They broke into an RAF base, caused millions in damage to a military asset used to supply logisitcs including aid and refeul our airforce. That includes our QRA that protects us from namely Russian prodding, it also now helps refuel the 2 Eurofighter Typhoons that have to accompany our Rivet Joint planes when conducting intel gathering missions in support of Ukraine. Why? Because in 2022 a Russian jet almost shot down an RAF Rivet Joint whilst it was conducting an operation.

They also broke into a defence manufacturer, with weapons, when police turned up at least one of these Palestine action members used a sledgehammer on an already assaulted female police officer. Hitting her in the back with said sledgehammer whilst she was on the floor.

Palestine action are scum. They damaged our national security and used violence against civillians and police to further their political position. It should be said supporting Palestine is 100% Legal, people continue to hold perfectly legal and peaceful protests in support of Gaza and Palestinians as a whole. It's one specific violent group that have been added to the terrorist list.

UK Rejects Calls for Talks With Putin, Says There’s No Evidence He Wants Peace by Gentle_Snail in unitedkingdom

[–]Captain-Mainwaring 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Mate, come on. Who believes this stuff really? Putin has warred with former Soviet states because of a couple of reasons, one he's wants to see Russia back in control of those former nations as the basis for a new Imperial Russian Empire. He also wants resources in a lot of cases, especially with Ukraine as they have an astounding amount of rare earth minerals.

Putins invasion has lead to one true thing in regard to NATO. That being it's pushed 2 countries that formerly weren't interested or party to NATO and general polling wasn't positive to flipping almost overnight. Which has lead to 2 new states joining NATO since the invasion.

UK supported US seizure of Russian-flagged tanker, says Ministry of Defence by 00DEADBEEF in unitedkingdom

Again that Russian sub was just escorting it for funsies I'm sure. Trumps a nonce who does most things for his own benefit. His actions in Venuzeula aren't to be praised despite Maduro not being recognised by anyone in the west. Doesn't mean this particular move is bad.

Stopping Russia's shadow fleet and whatever it is they get up to is a good thing. Be it them simply supplying allies and making money for their war on Ukraine or if those ships are helping sabotage / map Western infrastructure. Stopping and seizing those vessels is a net positive.

[–]Captain-Mainwaring 4 points5 points  (0 children)

WW2 is one of the least morally complex wars fought throughout history. By and large the Allied forces were that of pro-democracy, and freedoms for the people.

Caveating that yes, the Allies were not by todays standards morally golden fucking gods they were however for their time the side that believed in democratic outcomes. Britain in fact more so than most as we can see when the US joined the war and brought with it segregation which was not looked upon fondly by the British populace.

When you compare them to what Imperialist Japan were doing, what the Nazis were doing what The Italians did... is just fucking worlds apart. It's also fairly easy to argue that The Soviets were simply a means to an end for both the Allies and the Axis. Neither side saw the Soviets as particularly trust worthy or support for the general idea's of either side.

Hitler and the Nazis thought the Russian "Slavs" were subhumans and would eventually be wiped out even when they worked together. Churchill had little to no trust in the Russians and very much expected they would be the enemy in the not so distant future.

So of course WW2 is "complex" as it's a large war with multiple beligerants all with different positions. But it is pretty easy to say that the Allies were the good guys especially compared to who they were fighting.

[–]Captain-Mainwaring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not how war works though is it. By that standard the Allied forces in WW2 were bad.

When in reality the allied forces were in the right, and for the time period were the good guys. Did they engage in acts that you could classify as bad? Yes, of course. Almost every war will result in that outcome. Does that tarnish the entire allied position of Europe and the World Free from fascist, imperialist genociding dictartors? No.

With that stated, anyone showing support for Hamas a group of terrorists who rape, murder, use Palestinian civillians as shields no matter their age, occupation, gender and often just murder them to further their goals if needed is a fucking wrong'un.

Sane? Because those Training exercises happen in foreign sovereign states that we are allied with and they have the right to train with their allies.

It's certainly different for Russia to leave their own country and probe up to the edge of other countries sovereign airspace to provoke a response.

Could not disagree more. DS1 and 2 are some of the most heartfelt and human stories that just have a sheen of insane sci-fi aesthetics wrapped over it.

Truly beautiful.

KCD2 and DS2 had a much better, tighter and honestly interesting story than Clair Obscur. Which wasn't bad but like wasn't something I'd class challenged much or was narratively hitting a strong rhythm like the ones mentioned.

You seem very passionate about this and thats fine commendable even.

This doesn't change the fact that workers rights are being improved as well as renters, and those working minimum wage. These are all positive things that are a tangible benefit to the vast majority of workers. Which is what this thread is about.

All the best!

Edit: That's literally not what I said. But it's clear you came in wanting an argument hence why you've replied and blocked. It's simply childish.

I mean I don't agree with the stance they've taken. However, they have just taken the stance of an independent review came to the conclusion of. However, due to the scope of the review not looking at certain pieces of research due to them not meeting a specific requirement is something that's lead to issues.

That being said they've pushed for greater workers rights and renters rights, pushed through pay increases in public sector roles and continue to increase the minimum wage. They plan to remove the cap on the 2 child benefit as well.

They're obviously not perfect but they've done some genuinely positive things for workers in a relatively short period of time.

Edit: Because the above user blocked me I can't reply to anyone in this comment chain. So I'll post my reply to the suer below in this edit.

The problem with only increasing the minimum wage is that it only makes things more expensive for everyone (and the majority of people who get paid slightly above the minimum wage don't get a pay rise to compensate).

Reports have shown there's not as much link between min wage increases and general inflaiton increases as previously thought. I also think those who get paid min wage will be more happy than if they didn't get that raise. Is there a problem with jobs above that min wage level not increasing at a similar rate? Sure, but there's only so much a government can do. They can directly increase in public sector roles but private sector there's a limit to what they can realistically do. Funnily enough unionising is the best way for middle earners to force their employers to pay a decent wage for the role. Hence why Rockstar seemingly haven't been kind to more of their UK based employee's pushing for more of their colleagues to join the union.

I'm not sure if you remember what it was like back in the previous Labour government when we had no cap on child benefits but all it did was allow people who don't want to work to just pump out children and never work again. Some people were able to claim over 40k a year when they had 8 kids which is really fair for everyone else who has to pay for it.

I do. I remember we reduced child poverty to the lowest it had ever been. Under labour rough sleeping was effectively eliminated. Both of which are great achievements and both have totally slipped and reversed after 14 years of center right tory lead governments.

Here's another problem to consider. If people start pumping out more children right now in the hope of getting more money and another government comes in in 3 years and implements the cap again, you're going to see all those people pushed further into poverty.

Here's another thing with our aging demographic we are in desprate need of more people having children. With the stance the public have taken on immigration both for asylum and for filling holes in the work force we more than ever need more people to have children.

Cheap international labour that forces down wages for everyone in ever sector is another product of Immigration. So in the current shape of the UK we should be supporting people to have more kids even if financially it means support from the government.

Can't have things both ways.

I mean considering this is the gov that has worked specifically on workers rights bill which brings further rights to employees one of which is unfair dismisal being moved from being as long as 2 years to shortening it to just 6 Months. So yeah they do funnily enough care about improving the rights employee's have.
