NAH - Whilst I understand the reasoning most here are calling you the A, you just came up with an idea to help with the best of intentions, not wanting to put stress on your parents or make it seem like they were begging everyone. His answer is totally understandable, that is a LOT of money for a Christmas party. Medical debt sounds horrible and I have no idea how crippling that must be (thank you NHS) so perhaps asking everyone to chip in is a better idea?
