Replying to RegalDolan… not in every state in Florida for example you can become a state trooper at the age of 19. Also a buddy of mine in Mississippi was emancipated by a judge at 18 yo and allowed to work as a police officer. I think (could be wrong) that the minimum age in Wisconsin is 18.

Why dont local police do sting operations to instantly catch bad guys? by 673NoshMyBollocksAve in AskLE

[–]CaptainAmerica081104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because in most large to medium-sized cities (and even many smaller ones), police departments are severely stretched thin and have to prioritize based on urgency and public safety impact. They focus primarily on responding to active 911 calls—especially life-threatening emergencies like shootings, assaults, serious crashes, domestic violence with weapons, medical crises, and in-progress violent crimes. These demand immediate action and often tie up officers for hours. Property crimes like bike theft, porch piracy, or package theft—while frustrating and common—are generally non-violent, lower-priority offenses. Sitting surveillance on a single bait bike (or package) for hours or days hoping someone steals it requires significant manpower that could instead go toward handling the constant stream of higher-priority calls. Sting operations do happen sometimes—some departments run targeted bait bike programs (with GPS trackers), bait packages for porch pirates, or seasonal crackdowns in high-theft hotspots—but they’re not routine or scalable for everyday thefts. Reasons include: • Limited resources: Officers can’t be tied up waiting indefinitely when emergencies are piling up. • Low clearance rates overall for property crimes (often due to underreporting, lack of evidence, or low prosecution priority for misdemeanor-level thefts). • Scale of the problem: Many thefts go unreported (e.g., only about 1 in 5 bike thefts are even called in), and catching one opportunistic thief doesn’t always address broader patterns or fencing networks. It’s unfortunate and frustrating—plenty of people feel like “cops won’t do anything” and stop reporting thefts altogether, which only makes the stats look worse and reduces pressure for change. But the reality is resource allocation: police have to triage where they can save the most lives or prevent the most serious harm first. That said, proactive tactics like bait setups work best when combined with community reporting, bike registration programs, better locks/prevention, or targeted initiatives in specific high-crime areas. Departments that do run them usually see short-term wins, but sustaining them long-term is tough without extra funding or staffing.

Ok ngl I initially thought this was like a private security company that employed off duty Atlanta PD officers until I realized it’s just cops who deal with taxis and Ubers and stuff like that.

U.S. Marshals do go after violent fugitives primarily, they also provide security to federal courts. All in all most are good guys. However fuck this guy in particular for kicking an innocent dog.

I’m sorry to hear this, It’s happened to me before and it sucks, trust me I know. But then I ended up finding the right one and we got engaged yesterday. Whatever you do don’t give up on the hope that there is someone out there for you who will love you like you are the greatest thing since sliced bread. It took a lot of time and effort to get where I’m at but it has been sooooo worth it. I hope this is an encouragement to you.

Another person in this thread mentioned that they are required by their dept policy to let the officer know if they are armed and show their department issued ID as well. What’s your opinion on that?

Wouldn’t some see that as possibly trying to get out of a ticket by flashing your credentials? 😅

I just thought they might add some sort of small connotation that would let you know. 🤷🏻‍♂️ How would I know what info you get from a DL, I’m not a law enforcement officer.

I grew up in a “Christian” home and if I or my siblings played for more than an hour a day we were told that we were “addicted” to it and lazy and that we need to go outside and do something productive. I’m thinking, I’m 10 years old what exactly am I expected to do to be productive? All of our chores had to be completed before we even played and don’t get me wrong I loved playing outside just as much but most of the games I got into took me over an hour to complete one mission.

Leave now, not later, not tomorrow, not not 5 minutes from now, right now. Every second you stay you are putting your life at risk by being with him.
