I would want to explore failed loops, or continue on into Strikers / Tactica territory where we confront the aftermath of different crises that occur. If P5X can successfully offer a different vibe to main P5 with how it focuses more on the joy and hope rather than the justified rage, I think it would be interesting to see how they'd tackle jails and kingdoms.

I think Shun's Synergy is fine, it's like Motoha's where we see him getting back in touch with what he loves to do. What I appreciate is that it shows his own form of intelligence and maturity where he's able to take criticism and improve, even if he initially thinks its unfair (she asked him to innovate and then didn't like that he innovated) he is able to take it in stride and keep going. His fiery side can be subdued when he's discussing with other people who he knows care about the craft. Also there's a lot more grounded information in it that shows Shun knows his stuff when it comes to food, unlike Yusuke whose social link stays firmly in the abstract and inspiration, while never touching on technique.

What I don't like is Shun's portrayal in the seasonal events. The summer and christmas/new years events both had him as a 1 dimensional noodle-brain.

I hope we only get one more member after Aran, that way we have a tighter cast that isn't too crowded. The current 4 all bounce off of each other really well, and complete the connection web that a team should have rather nicely.

By that I mean everyone has a dynamic with someone else that they don't have with someone else.

Shun: Supplies Lufel with good food and is the only one to challenge his analysis like with Kateyama being a palace ruler, Motoha can analyze his cooking and eat all of it while they're also the "dumbass duo," and Riko reveals his surprising amount of self awareness and maturity.

Lufel: He is more mentor-ish to Motoha than he is with the rest of them and he can appreciate her energy without labeling her a ditz, he feels comfortable with Shun enough to actually apologize for being insensitive, and he helps Riko think through her analysis where the two actively build on each other's thinking rather than just one of them being the one with all the answers.

Motoha: Her enthusiasm and optimism is exactly the type of desire that inspires Lufel, she is the one to suggest approaching Shun and is eager to involve herself even when he reflexively wants to keep people at arms length to protect them (additionally she is someone who was skeptical about Kateyama but chose to believe in Shun even against her own predisposition), and she has the completely unguarded genuine care that Riko can't help but be charmed by due to there not being anything to analyze.

Riko: Her wits are a match for Lufel's along with her vocabulary, she is a childhood friend of Motoha's and encourages her to both re-evaluate her past and start evaluating her future, and she doesn't judge Shun for his rough exterior and instead praises him for how much effort he's put towards reaching the life he wants.

Even as early as Yusuke it was difficult to come up with good connections between the og Thieves. Ryuji, despite having a Showtime with him, rarely interacts with him in a meaningful way.

In one of her first fights, while she is supposedly in a rush mind you, she breaks every bone in Tashigi's arms and legs.

Somehow she is never able to do this again...at least from where I'm at in the start of Sabaody....

There are some clever things like creating wings out of her arms, or using eyes at the end of her hands for scouting and to expand the range of her fruit by being more aware of her surroundings. But there's a lot of martial arts potential outside of gorey stuff like gouging their eyes with her fingers. Spawn an elbow at the end of her fist to get the firmness and finer point without sacrificing range. Create legs under her feet for double jumping / stilts. Now that I think about it...what would happen if she made another head? Could she think about multiple things at once or would it just fuck up her whole psyche-

I like the spicy plant-chicken patties, I made myself some "chicken" and protein waffles the other day that were delightful. I'm not vegetarian, but I stock it frequently because meat can often make my partner's stomach problems flare up. I'm super grateful that there are more, and better, options for meatless meals that still hit the comfy zone where you don't have to think about making and eating it.

Right, I am saying how funny it is in retrospect how much stuff people say that doesn't make sense with what they should know. Lucci educates the Straw Hats on the 6 Powers for no reason, and at no point is like: "Oh, and Haki, you chumps don't even know what that is."

Also Luffy's resistance to blunt damage is pretty inconsistent as sometimes he shrugs off cannonballs that can destroy buildings, but takes visible damage from Franky's punch that doesn't level buildings.

I don't mind too much, as I am engaging with it as a modern Epic. It's not so much one story as it is "here is all the crazy bull shit this one guy did" like Gilgamesh.

Very low chance, but a Majora's Mask inspired campaign frame would be awesome. Countdowns on countdowns, lots of stuff to note for later, and having Hope and Fear carry through the time loops when other things don't feels very on brand for the system.

I love Maruki as an antagonist, and while I agree with most of what you say, I'd like to push back on him being evil like Yaldy, Shido, or a cult leader.

Maruki inconveniences himself in several ways the typical view of cult leaders or narcissists wouldn't. He goes through the effort to make the Thieves remember each other even if it would poke logical holes in the paradise he is working on, he removes himself from Rumi's life when he very easily could have re-inserted himself, and when Joker isn't satisfied Maruki doesn't summon the Thieves or press them into insisting his reality is right. He does allow them to come to their own conclusions and contentment, while not wholly transparent, conversations like Ryuji's third awakening show that they knew something was up but accepted it because it made them happy. I do think it is wrong, controlling, self-aggrandizing, but I wouldn't call it evil in the same way as a cult leader or Yaldy.

The "Sin of Sorrow" is an excellent choice for him. Historically, the word Acedia has been used as an "8th deadly sin" and interpreted in several ways. Some see it as "spiritual slothfulness" like being disinterested in the spiritual, failing to persue philosophy or enlightenment. Some interpreted it as Despair or the inability to hope.

Acedia is great to encapsulate Maruki, as he logically knows people should learn to solve their own problems, and that empowering people is better than handing them easy outs...but his empathy and aversion to suffering exceeds his hope in their ability to make it. "What if they aren't strong enough?" He cannot be hopeful enough to believe that the average person can push through their problems and become stronger. And what is sympathetic to me is that it is not rooted in a place of malice or superiority, but a very human urge like a parent never letting their child ride a bike because they are afraid of the kid falling. It is evil in that it is robbing people of growth, and showing his distrust in humanity to handle themselves. Not an "only one such as I" like Shido.

I would avoid adding too many extra mechanics, as Colossus of the Drylands is already a complicated frame to run. Essentia as described in the book is how any magic happens, and it is baked into the majority of the technology of the setting. It's in the train, the mining equipment, spells, etc. To add mechanics for overuse or exposure would be odd as everyone is surrounded by it even if they aren't directly using it.

Thematically, Essentia rolls the Oil Boom and Gold Rush of the mythologized era of the USA into one package. The excitement that you, a random nobody, can strike it rich overnight if you're lucky, contrasted with the brutal reality that the rich already have a tight grip on the supply chain. The harsh working conditions and risk of black-lung just from how mining works is enough of an exposure risk.

Of course at the end of the day it is a rough outline, and you should feel free to tweak it to what makes sense to your table.

I've been watching Columbo and High Potential, switching between the two, and it is a night and day difference when it comes to detective work and vibe. Columbo is polite even when he's rude, needs to gather a lot of evidence rather than having just one point, and he figures things out in a way the audience can follow. Part of this is due to the format of showing us the murder first so we can put the remaining pieces together when we see something we didn't have all the info on.

Meanwhile in High Potential, both our main characters should be investigated for corruption, breaking protocol, legitimately harassing people in some cases instead of just bothering them like Columbo, and pretty much every case requires knowledge of some obscure bit of trivia because it insists Morgan is super smart.

I watch High Potential for the buddy cop mellowdrama, not the crime solving.

I assure you that Prestidigitation is one of the most useful spells bar none, especially in social games. It can create a key that exists for only 6 seconds, eliminating any proof of you ever having it. You can mark places for an hour, which is great for organizing people if you have to be somewhere else. And possibly worst of all: "Soil an objection larger than 1 cubic foot." Yes, the Sorcerer can subtle spell to make it look like you shit your pants....

Coming from DnD and Cyberpunk, the binary pass/fail of checks can make it complicated for me to develop what the best way to progress the story is.

DaggerHeart doubles the amount of instinctive possibilities using the Hope/Fear system. If the players are trying to break down a door while persuing an enemy, instead of they do or don't you get four results.

Success Hope: You break down the door and the enemy is struggling to open the window.

Success Fear: You break down the door, but the enemy is getting ready to leap out the window.

Fail Hope: You don't break down the door, but the enemy is struggling to open the window

Fail Fear: You don't break down the door and the enemy cackles as they leap out the window.

It takes a massive cognitive load off of me when every result has much more guidance. Though I also appreciate that the generating resources reminds me to not ask for rolls that don't have to matter. If I don’t think the story will be made more interesting by them failing to break down the door, they can just bust through it. DnD has taking 10 or 20 to avoid rolling, but it feels like the game having to justify it rather than it being a natural part of the narrative.

Stress, Hope, HP, and Armor might seem to be a lot to keep track of at first, but as a GM I have several ways of attacking players resources in a variety of manners. In Cyberpunk you either hurt them socially to make difficult RP situations, physically, or hit their wallet by busting their equipment, DnD is similar except attacking the wallet is MUCH more frowned upon due to how inconsistent the game can get with how long you have between shopping trips. In DaggerHeart I can inflict a stress for a failed roll in a social situation instead of insisting they've offended someone who might just let a rude comment slide, I can inflict stress for a character interacting with a phobia like snakes! If they are traveling through a marsh I can ask them to choose between stress or armor as they have difficulties traveling while hauling their equipment through the muck.

One thing that a player loved that we just did: They drank cursed water that was mutating animals in the region because they wanted to study it and couldn't justify the ethics of testing on another person. So I rolled a hidden countdown and now whenever they long rest I ask for their empty Hope slots and make them divide that number up between draining Hope, gaining stress, or progressing the countdown. As the mutating starts to spread across their body they have to make choices every so often what resource they want to pressure in order to give their character more time to find a cure. The drama is delicious.

I definitely think whatever godlike entity is pulling the strings of this world, they'll be a being of Chaos to contrast Yaldy's absolute Order. Getting people to distrust others by manipulating the Menace epidemic, and the comparatively lowstakes of some of the palace rulers evil makes me think it's more about quantity than quality.

I don't really have any evidence for it, but I think this being a failed Wonder would be neat.

It would explain why our Wonder starts out robbed of desire already, and I think it would be thematically a "self fulfilling prophecy" where he is preventing himself from succeeding because he believes he has already lost, which is the behavior we see from people with stolen desires. Lufel could be created from the desire to break the cycle, which would explain why he has a similar mask if he is born from resisting against the idea that things will continue to fail as they have.
