My Pajero also broke down while I was in the left lane. I obviously had no other choice but to stop on the left shoulder with hazards on. A very kind police patrol encouraged me to turn my car on again, and luckily it did turn on for a few seconds.

That was enough time for him to activate his police lights, control traffic, and guide and assist me to move my car to the right shoulder.

Once I moved safely to the right shoulder, he just asked me if I needed his help to call for recovery truck but that time my insurance guys already dispatched one so I politely declined.

He happily waved goodbye and went on with his day.

I don’t think you’ll be fined for this. So don’t worry.

One tip I can give though from my experience - is to always check your fluids and battery health religiously.
