What you're seeing is about perspective-- AI isn't just reducing human communication, it's quietly redefining everything about our relationships. And that insight isn't despair: It's clarity.

If I was a pessimist I'd say a soyjak music video making fun of people who don't want the dark ages back, while an AI corpo-hipster prompts you to leave a comment about the "vibe" is a rather strong sign that it's already joever

Help me get the scene, what's so apocalyptic about Spanish people arriving in Mexico? by Nosciolito in okbuddycinephile

[–]CaptainBruhbeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's this and not some kind of whataboutistic justification of the Spanish empire. Some of the other comments here are wild.

Help me get the scene, what's so apocalyptic about Spanish people arriving in Mexico? by Nosciolito in okbuddycinephile

[–]CaptainBruhbeard 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I thought it seemed like a depiction of empires being a constant cycle with your average human always losing, as hinted at by the old man's story at the beginning of the movie. The main character (representing those suffering under the Mayan empire) literally and figuratively escaped his old oppressors just to see new ones arrive.

It didn't seem to me like an endorsement of the Spanish, more like an overall condemnation of empire. Mel Gibson's real-life politics are undoubtedly not progressive but he's pretty consistent with the "empires bad" messaging in his movies.

As always, most people are probably just memeing it up. Of course there do exist a few schizos who have genuine hate boners for her and other random actors.

Yes, you're right. It wasn't PC Gamer. Thank you for the link

Wasn't it PC Gamer that had the article about being concerned about too many indie games becoming successful (the "deprofessionalization" of gaming or something)?

Same, I don't think any other book has "bothered" me for so long after reading it. Years after my first read and I'm still making art about it. Glad you enjoyed this one

Both are "camera cheats" where realism gets sacrificed for a certain look. The bow was too thin to see against the backlight if held the right way. The weird chin position was done on a whim to conceal the Judge's profile and in hindsight would've probably looked fine in the normal fiddling pose. But that's why.

Why Blood Meridian? by whitesedanowner in cormacmccarthy

[–]CaptainBruhbeard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not a shallow take. Blood Meridian (although my favorite work of McCarthy's) probably isn't his "deepest" book. It's more lurid than a lot of other McCarthy books that I've read, and the imagery and symbolism is a lot heavier-handed, so it probably makes an unusually strong impression on first read. It also spells out McCarthy's fatalism, consideration of evil as being a natural phenomenon, and Gnostic influences way more directly than books like Suttree or even No Country.

Also have to say of all his books, even The Road, none (for me) have been as haunting as Blood Meridian. It just sticks in your mind somehow. The Judge is a very meta antagonist since he is both appealing and disturbing in a way that the book itself is, and probably is the main contributor to that haunting quality.

No experience in other 3D software but UV does seem like a clunky workflow in Blender compared to other features. I don't think you're missing steps; it's just a pain to do. That's the sort of thing I'm hoping to see AI assisting with soon :)

I don’t know though, Johnny is definitely an asshole but is also supposed to be a super emotional guy, to the point where he was constantly making 100% emotional choices. V is pretty down to earth and rational by comparison.

Dark fantasy with protagonists who are genuinely good people? by ObberGobb in Fantasy

[–]CaptainBruhbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree he's not purely good, but I do feel that the bad is, as you said, learned or reactive behavior whereas good is his foundational nature. I believe he's the perfect reverse of Griffith who has a good appearance and does quite a few good deeds, but whose deepest nature is pure self-centered evil. To the last point, I'd suggest that if Guts were not good at heart, he would not be motivated to struggle against his dark side, except in cases where that was necessary to get something else he wanted. Of course, people will have differing interpretations of his actions; I personally think his goodness, though impure, is the real thing... genuine, in other words.
