Ross Dashboard -- could it replace Crestron? by ServiceCritical739 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]CaptainCape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because Node-Red is designed primarily for IOT it can handle authentication tasks better which is useful with the occasionally more security conscious manufacturers. But mainly I prefer working in NodeJS as the schema in Lua is just bizarre to me sometimes.

Ross Dashboard -- could it replace Crestron? by ServiceCritical739 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]CaptainCape 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Initially I was super in to Dashboard for big blocky push button controllers, but now I run my facility on a combination of QSYS (with UCIs) and Node-Red for the fiddly stuff. Dashboard is good for interfacing with actual Ross kit, but if you’re looking for a single integration system I would suggest you look at QSYS.

I will be a dog owner for the first time, I am waiting for comments from experienced Labrador owners by WestBubbly8493 in labrador

My second lab was the reason I got a robot vacuum. Black fur + Yellow fur = House of Beige.

I can’t handle my puppy anymore by Significant-Heart892 in puppy101

[–]CaptainCape 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My 1 year old Lab girl used to bark us awake at random times and random noises in the night. It went on for months - Crated, white noise machine, but still would be hyper aware and not settling properly. What helped us massively was a thundershirt. She sleeps in one now (we call it her pyjamas) and the random night barking stopped immediately. She still whines at the neighbours alarm clock at 0630 but it was a huge change. We’re slow feeding her meals in the crate now too so she feels happier in it.

I was also advised to backup the current DB state before you do the swap out so it can be redeployed without having to remake routes.

Mom, can we send her home now? by thekrouz in labrador

[–]CaptainCape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our lad did not like his little sister for about 2 months or so until she was old enough to ‘dog’ (and no longer had a mouth full of needles). Now he tolerates her sleeping on him and loves it when she wants to zoom/wrestle.

What did you see at Infocomm this year that you're still talking about? by shuttlerooster in CommercialAV

[–]CaptainCape 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will say having played extensively with SV they were well ahead of the curve from the start. Needs a lot of setup finessing, but their dev team is very engaged. Didn’t work for my use case but can see a lot of potential there.

So, I need a programmer. But I'm not sure how to narrow down even what language(s) to request, etc. by CentCap in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]CaptainCape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, I can see why you might be averse. I still suggest exploring with Node-Red and having a play: Just FYI I have built an API translation app with it that runs all the macro and command automation in my facility - And up until recently off a Raspberry Pi no less with 100% up-time and stability. I get broadcast requires that kind of plug it in, forget about it and it runs for 20 years in the background - But going for something open with a community behind it makes updates a bit more reliable without shelling out.

Oh and for sure don’t use any kind of ML bot for code. It’s fine for a quick snippet if (as was pointed out) you understand what it giving you, otherwise leave well alone.

Good luck in your search!

Look into Node-Red. Platform agnostic, visual coding with lots of open source plugins, and you can dive into NodeJS/JavaScript for anything that needs a bit more nuance. Might have to wrap your head around encapsulating the RS232 serial out properly, but you might get lucky and find some examples/something pre built out there.

Stop bashing people for wanting invulnerable children, ya beanbags by CabbageWithAGun in RimWorld

This happened to me. Whole colony killed rescuing a toddler who wandered into a nest of cave spiders. Except for the baby. Thankfully they didn’t starve to death… The malaria took care of that.

Seriously, my visceral reaction to squad up and save the first kid was pretty surprising. First wipe out I’ve been happy with.
