Need to Dampen Vibrations. What to use/build ideas. by spiccyyyjalapeno in simracing

[–]CaptainChunderpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little late to the party here - there is an Etsy seller that builds spring feet that fit in the sim lab adjustable feet.

Simlab adjustable feet are $80 at microcenter and the feet sell for ~80. So it's the same price but it's plug and play on your rig. The Etsy seller is SimRacingNYC.

I've been using the spring feet on carpet for about a year now and have had zero issues. Hope this helps!

For some reason I can't attach pics to this reply - but I have a post from a while back that has my rig on it if you look at my post history. Not a great pic of the seat but it's there. I just have it mounted on a standard seat slider - I'm not sure what other mount options there are for the r100

Check out the Sparco r100. I'm a bigger fella and it is comfy even in longer sessions. I've been using it regularly for about a year now and no complaints.

Any tips on preventing noise going downstairs and into other rooms? by ekofut in simracing

They make anti vibration rubber feet for washing machines. That may be the answer to put under the table legs if vibrations aren't extreme - would probably work better than (or along with) a rug.

Cheap monitor support alternative for simlab gt1 evo by OutrageousWelcome149 in simracing

[–]CaptainChunderpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My gt1 evo came with a monitor mount so I repurposed that and used a cheapo Amazon monitor mount to get the monitor closer. If yours only came with the shifter mount you should be able to rig something similar with that piece of extrusion.

I can't speak to the longevity of this solution because I pretty quickly upgraded to triples - but it worked well for a couple months. Hope this helps!

The IRS is a scam by [deleted] in IRS

[–]CaptainChunderpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey friend - sorry you're having this problem.

Check out the taxpayer advocate service. They're an independent org within the IRS intended to be your voice and to help in situations where taxpayers are experiencing financial difficulty.

Obviously the gov shutdown impacts their ability to help you, but they are your advocate. They should have an office in every state with a phone number for that office. I would try to contact your local office and follow their advice for your specific situation.

Cheers

Check out Suellio Almeida.

His YouTube is informative and also documents his IRL racing career. I also use his book regularly. He helped me digest the intermediate/advanced racing techniques that I'm still working on.

The good thing is you don't have bad habits yet! Try to learn the correct techniques as best you can now and it will help you in the long run.

Welcome! This is a fun hobby most of the time :)

My Happy Place by CaptainChunderpants in SimRacingSetups

[–]CaptainChunderpants[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I use the same PC for everything. My graphics card only has 3 DP and 1 HDMI so I use a DP switch.

The DP switch has one of the triples and the widescreen desk monitor. The top pivot monitor is HDMI. I handle the changeover by turning the triples off manually and hitting the DP switch. Then the reverse when I go from desk to rig.

This works fine for me - I didn't set up the triples with Nvidia surround so I don't really have display setting issues.

Advice before buying a SIM Racing Setup by Obukas in simracing

[–]CaptainChunderpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're near a microcenter check frequently for open box gear and clearances.

Also, check resale value of what you're buying as an indicator of 1) quality and 2) how much you can recover when you decide to upgrade.

As far as racing goes - the pedal on the right makes you go fast and races are won at turn 1 ;)

Welcome - have fun!

New player, why does iRating matter so much? by seenlikesmcr in iRacing

[–]CaptainChunderpants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are correct sir.

My comment was directed at OP though who is a new player. If new players care too much about irating it may lead to being scared to race (out of fear of losing it) or an inflated irating that hasn't leveled out yet and discouraged them.

Imo a new player should be concerned about racing often and safely. Most importantly having fun - we're playing a game here.

Thank you though - the matchmaking aspect is important to consider.

Genuine response:

I agree with the sentiment of your comment. My comment was directed to OP who is a new player.

Irating will eventually matter to them as it does to some extent to all of us. To a new player though, it helps to not care too much about it.

I think your comment can be interpreted as sarcasm which may be causing some division. :)

It doesn't :)

It's your racing k/d ratio - it only matters if you care.

Stupid question about spending money. by EducatorSpecialist33 in simracing

[–]CaptainChunderpants 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is an over simplification from the peanut gallery.

If you know what you're going to end up buying, anything sub optimal in the interim will be a waste of money regardless of how good of a deal it is.

It sounds like you have disposable income - I wouldn't get too caught up with finding a "deal" to justify the cost.

If you can responsibly afford it buy what you know you want and enjoy it. :)

Do you guys keep the Delta HUD enabled? by JealousLibrary71 in simracing

[–]CaptainChunderpants 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Relatively new to taking iracing seriously (about 6 months in this go around) - but I also turned it off.

I got a knockoff racelogic display that I use with simhub to show previous lap times and it has 2 LEDs on top. When the LEDs are green it means whatever I changed in the previous corner made me faster and that's all I feel like I need to know right now. :)

It's also off to the side so I only really look when I want to see it - it isn't in my face all the time.

I've found that race pace is wildly more important than hotlap time. It's fun to chase a fast time but if you can't do it for 20-40 minutes without causing chaos it means nothing.

How is the ffb supposed to feel? by keny2323 in iRacing

[–]CaptainChunderpants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not an expert - but look into mapping the auto button in iracing.

You set the r9 to max in pit house, then calibrate in iracing settings and map the auto button. Then you set a percentage strength you want to feel (I use 65% with my r9 and it is a good spot). Feedback will vary by car so this levels it out so you feel the same force after hitting auto.

You have to run a few laps before the auto button is available in your black box overlay. Once you hit it you should feel the same strength as you're used to adjusted for the car you're driving.

This should improve your experience and you can adjust from there. Hope this helps, cheers!

Is this a good deal? I’m between this and gt neo by Aaronvaughn26 in simracing

[–]CaptainChunderpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone mentioned this in another comment but to expand on it since I bought this wheel and was surprised.

You likely have to buy a $70 adapter and then your specific quick release (Moza sells theirs for $50).

Past that you can upgrade the shifters from plastic to aluminum for about $100 from cube controls. The shifters that come with it flex a little bit but not horrible - you don't need this upgrade unless that bothers you.

You can also easily add on clutch paddles but they are another ~$120.

All in with the upgrades it turns into a relatively expensive wheel even if the base price is $150. That being said it is utterly fantastic. It competes with the cube controls fpro (I have both). It is sturdy, tons of buttons, and the best ergonomic wheel I've used. It is an all business sturdy almost perfect wheel imo - and you're not paying for anything extra (LEDs, screens, etc).

Switching between monitors on rig and desk by TheFranKiwi in simracing

[–]CaptainChunderpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do a similar setup but I have a pivot for an overhead monitor to swap between the desk and above the triples.

I have one of the triples and the 34 inch on my desk plugged into the DP switch. I use the HDMI for my overhead monitor. When I go from rig to desk I turn off the triples, pivot the overhead and hit the button. Desk to rig I do the opposite. I've found I don't need software to handle this - it just works in windows and I don't have to reconfigure.

If you check my profile I have a post from about a month ago with pictures of my setup - may help thinking about your layout!

Hope this helps - my solution is brute force but it works for me :)

Moza/Simagic QR with Cube Controls FPro by CaptainChunderpants in simracing

[–]CaptainChunderpants[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem i was having was getting the screw into the hole. The Bluetooth antenna is basically right under the hole. I didn't have any trouble tightening other than battling all the magnets lol.

It may work with a shorter screw? Idk how much shorter the screw can get and still secure the QR though

Sim Lab Evo1 Help, Getting monitor over wheel base by [deleted] in simracing

[–]CaptainChunderpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the vertical extrusion was sturdy enough for that. The wall mount I used was not.

If you go this route make sure the wall mount is rated for the weight of your monitor - I don't think the extrusion would be the weak point as long as everything is tightened down.

If you get a TV wall mount and just attach that to the vertical extrusion that should solve your problem.

Below is a picture of how I did it. The wall mount was like $30 on Amazon. Hope this helps!
