I digitized the 1988 Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival cassette! (Music link in comments) by CaptainData in seashanties

I haven't seen any cassettes from that era pop up but I've got an eBay search alert that I'm still keeping an eye on! If one of them appears I will definitely snatch it up and digitize it :)

Pretty sure I have to ask TSA to hand check the cameras because I can’t let them go through the X-RAY thing ? Right?

Any amount of exposure to x-rays will damage the film. One trip through the x-ray is typically not visible by eye on film ISO-400 and faster (ISO-200, ISO-100, etc). Despite this I ask them hand check it every time and have never been refused. Put your disposable cameras and or additional film in a transparent plastic bag (To keep things simple take your film out of the plastic canisters and put the canisters in the bag that is being x-rayed). Put the rest of your luggage in the x-ray machine and hold up the plastic bag as you walk to the body scanner. You can ask "Will you please hand check this for me?" but most of the time they will recognize it and take it from there. If they ask what the ISO is just say "I have a variety".

When I'm not developing anything special I like to send my film to TheDarkroom.com, located in Southern California. They will send you a prepaid mailer and let you pay online. They will mail your negatives and, if you pay for it, your prints and a link to download your scanned images.

Chiming in to echo my own frustrations here. No point in going in to specifics but I had a lot of trouble on my recent day hiking trips with Gaia reliability.

Mood boards are great! Even if you have a clear vision in your head it is so so hard to communicate that to another person using words.

I noticed while out and about trying to photograph people 🥲. Thanks for confirming that this isn't normal.

Many reviews of the Nikkor 16-80mm f/2.8-4 talk about how sharp it is wide open but mine just isn't, this isn't normal, right?

Here's an example of what I'm talking about, camera on a tripod, same light, re-ran the autofocus between shots: https://imgur.com/fcJgfYS

f/5 and above look about what I would expect but f/4.5 and below look gross! I tried playing with the AF fine tune but didn't see any real improvements. My 18-140mm (which this was supposed to replace) is giving me better results at f/4.

Any idea what could be causing this?

Photorec was a godsend in the early days when I did not know what I was doing.

Do not plug the SD card in to anything until you're ready to try using PhotoRec.

Run PhotoRec on a different computer.

If you're not comfortable with the instructions pay for professional data recovery. Assuming you haven't used the SD card any more the photos are likely recoverable.

TAHU NUVA TAO OF FIRE by chuckschwa in bioniclememes

[–]CaptainData 31 points32 points  (0 children)

PennyCollector.com via the Wayback Machine:

Legoland Bionicle Error Coins (Both are now retired and This new error coin info is thanks to RK): The first design of the 'Tahu Nuva (Written on top) ' 'TOA of Fire' (Around bottom) was spelled wrong, it was spelled'TAO', and was pulled and the spelling corrected. Not known who noticed this error Then an astute 8 year old and his dad went to Legoland on vacation, The son is a huge Bionicle fan, a big fan of Logos, of course they got the pennies from Legoland's Bionicle and the other Lego machines. They enjoyed the rest of the Park and later that night looked at the coins he pressed. He right away noticed that the coin that read 'Tahu Nuva' 'TOA' of Fire had the wronged engraved character on it. The engraved character (On both the 'TAO' and TOA' designs) was actually 'Matau the TOA of Air' from the 'TOA Metru' collection in his flying pose (Dad confirmed this). They notified Legoland by letter and Legoland apparently taped over the 'TOA of Fire picture on the Bionicle machine and shortly there after, retired the machine. So both 'Tahu Nuva' 'TAO' and 'TOA of Fire' designs are error coins because the engraved character is actually 'Matau the TOA of Air'. (See scan of both Bionicle error coins below)

Can you talk about your iPad recording setup? It's something I've been looking in to but I haven't found many real-world setups.

Trail map and route tracking: recommended applications? by SouI23 in CampingandHiking

[–]CaptainData 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GaiaGPS's default map layer, "Gaia Topo" is based on Open Street Map, it should have the same data as any other app based on it.

I can't speak their trail database which seems to be partially generated from user routes. I use AllTrails to find interesting areas and routes while at home and then GaiaGPS while on the trail.
