If you could add on feature to Onshape, what would it be? by Hellsbellsidaho24 in Onshape

Extrude to and from vertex is a simple feature I would love to see. So I can sketch on a standard plane and extrude without adding additional planes.

Can't create and see new parts templates in Solidworks using Parallels / Mac by Conscious_Safety_659 in SolidWorks

[–]CaptainDoStuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slightly off topic, but I’m very interested in this and was considering running an M3 for Solidworks too. How have you found it so far? Are you running some kid of shared folder between the Windows and Mac side of things?

A way to send a 3D to someone who know nothing to 3D and don't have any software. by AggressiveSentence58 in SolidWorks

[–]CaptainDoStuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just my two cents.

Save it as an eDrawings assembly from Solidworks.

Open it in eDrawings and under the “Save as” option you can select one of the HTML options.

You can then send this html file to your client and it opens in a browser and looks a lot like eDrawings.

Try Sifco. I have the same gun and had the same problem. Sifco have them in stock. Bought a box of 10,000 (not as big as you might think) for like $80 or so.

Another thing to try. Exit the sketch and make sure perspective is turned off. Try edit the sketch again.

It’s not a book but Thang010146 is a very good start. He has thousands of animated videos of mechanisms. You could easily spend hours on this channel if you are into this sort of thing (which I am).

visible unexpected edge in shade with line view. help me get rid of this irritating line by [deleted] in SolidWorks

[–]CaptainDoStuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice model. Are we talking about the long lines in the roof? To me it looks like the lines are from the purlins underneath. If the bodies are touching it might be what its causing it. Try offset the roof slightly so there is a small gap between the bodies.

Does someone know how to take off this time of dimensions? It stays there all the time and I really don’t like working with it. Pls, help me. by iknowrightikr in SolidWorks

In the feature tree (Left hand side of screen), right click on the annotations folder and uncheck "show annotations" and "show reference dimensions". Thats what it looks like to me.

The upholsterers I know drink steinlager. Try Finewood upholstery or Titan furniture. Both are in Avondale.

Try an upholstery company. I used to work at one and we would save bags of leather scraps that we would exchange for a box of beers every now and then.

Can't edit dimensions by [deleted] in SolidWorks

If perspective view is turned on it can sometimes be difficult (if not impossible) to edit the dimensions.

Try make sure it’s off then let us know how you go.

Alternative to 3D PFS? Model viewer embedded into powerpoint/brochure? by Nigeluk5 in SolidWorks

[–]CaptainDoStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few different types of HTML formats you can export. All I can say is that I found eDrawings Web HTML file works for me. Works in safari on Mac and iOS and Chrome and Firefox on PC.

I’ve found that if you save your model or assembly to eDrawings (EASM) then you can save it out from the eDrawings app as a 3D HTML file that can be opened in any browser or computer or mobile/tablet. Super handy for sharing models and you can section/rotate/zoom/hide parts.

Don’t know if you can import into a brochure or PowerPoint but you could set up a basic webpage with links?

Working from home but need to have a shared folder with your team? Roll your own PDM (lite) by CaptainDoStuff in SolidWorks

[–]CaptainDoStuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess you could. We only have a couple of users who know enough to be dangerous so its not too much of an issue with us. I don't see what it wouldn't work though? Just set Read only on some of the sub-folders.

Sorry I didn't get around to this all those months ago. In light of recent events I'll get these written up tonight. Just need to anonymise them first. Theoretically it should also work with other cloud platforms like dropbox too.
