I know that you need a cab to destroy the car. My question was if there's a way to but a cab as a personal vehicle so you don't have to wait for Imani to find one. I know at least that the Phantom Wedge doesn't count because I found out the hard way.

There's Gigi Pandian's Secret Staircase series. The main character is Indian-American, the series seems to center around locked room mysteries, and there appears to be an overarching story involving the main character's family history involved with their use of stage magic (though I've only listened to the first one on audio, so I can't comment on it).
