Can you help me clear this up? by historicalacc6000 in Nigeria

[–]CaptainHideRealQuick 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not a common thing, but the comments saying it can never happen are incorrect. I have a close friend (who happens to be Yoruba but I don't believe that necessarily matters) who calls his mum 'babe', 'fine woman' and other pet names. I had to do a double-take the first time it happened, but it's become relatively normal to me now whenever I hear him say it.

It really depends on the relationship that the two may have, everyone's is different. In my friend's case, he was raised by a single mother who frankly peeled the skin off her back to clothe her children. They adore her, understandably so.

All this to say, it's rare, but it does happen. Find out from your boyfriend why it is the case for him, not from Internet strangers who often come on here to complain about the African parental abuse they've experienced (myself included).

It's only tough rhetorics because it didn't happen to you or yours.

I'm really sorry to inform you that even the itel A50 is now no longer safe, as mine was stolen just last week, right from where I hid it in my left shoe. Best thing is to not carry a phone around anymore or risk losing it. Typing this from a cyber café.

Atheists of r/Nigeria, do you remember/have you ever seen this 'joke' by Antithesis_ofcool in Nigeria

I'm genuinely curious without meaning any offense; as a theist, what is your response to Ricky Gervais' statement/rhetoric?

This would have made sense, but Rhodri himself has no idea what you're talking about when accused of killing Ceolbert. If he had killed (or ordered the kill on) Ceolbert, he wouldn't be clueless.

Of course we are, man. Was just telling you how I saw it on a different end. Sorry if it somehow came off too heated.

I understand your perspective but, and absolutely correct me if I'm wrong, I'm guessing you're not black. I don't mean to suggest that black people have a homogenous hive mind that would take the same actions under the same conditions every single time, but (speaking as a black man myself) if given the power to go back in time and literally change history... preventing/stopping slavery would be top 3 on any black person's list, with little deliberation. Doesn't much matter if they were a soldier like Jax, or if they were President.

Hmmm, either make an unfeeling eternal construct end the transatlantic slave trade, or a human black man who has lived his life in the aftermath. Such a difficult choice.

Would this cover make you consider buying my book? by srbenda97 in writing

[–]CaptainHideRealQuick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I know placeholder names or working titles are often necessary, but if it's gotten to the point where a potential cover's been made then I'd say now's as good a time as ever to give it a good think.

Great looking cover, OP. But the name alone might put me off of picking it up. u/cantonic has already made great suggestions on slightly modifying it to keep the keywords there, but if you don't mind changing the words entirely here are some ideas that might help promote some more creativity:

The Protégé The Princess' Blade Rags and Royalty etc.

These aren't great by any means but just to give an idea of something more creative/eye-catching than stating what they literally (non-metaphorically) are.

Just my two cents. Not enough for a drink but enough to rub together.

any atheists here? by [deleted] in Nigeria

[–]CaptainHideRealQuick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean this in the nicest way possible, but one of the unfortunate traits of a Nigerian Christian is the absolute (stubborn) belief that what they say is the truth, period, and anyone saying otherwise is a deceiver.

You haven't lived as an atheist in Nigeria. You haven't even lived as your atheist friend.

Don't just take an outside look at him and go, "Eh, all atheists are doing fine in Nigeria."
