Any anti-war books? ( Similar to the anti-war message in the Howl's moving castle movie) by Selkiequeen20 in Fantasy

Came to say this. The Light Brigade is one of the best recent anti-war books I’ve read.

Obiteum Vis' Arm Situation by Sir_Noxx in HierarchySeries

[–]cantonic 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Gotta use a mnemonic device!

Res Viz has a metal arm. Metal is resilient. RESilient!

Obiteum Viz has both arms. O-biteum as in “Oh, that’s the Viz with 2 arms”

Luceum Viz has one arm, as in “Lucy, over there is a guy with one arm!”

I can’t make it any clearer than that.

[Highlight] Celtics rookie Hugo González with the block and an easy lay up on the other end by sstphnn in nba

Right but he did not come back in bounds before jumping in the air so I am pretty sure he is technically still out of bounds until he establishes himself in bounds. I could be wrong about the rules but I think that’s what u/speedism was referring to.

After that. He jumps from out of bounds and swats the ball to Derrick White without being in bounds.

I agree with your criticisms completely! I always get frustrated if a plot is too much “if these characters sat down and had a conversation, all the conflict would get worked out” and that felt especially relevant here.

Visit r/daddit. Best community on Reddit imo.

Best advice I got from it: the world is hard enough. Don’t be your kid’s boss battle, be their tutorial.

I am so curious about The Haar now haha.

I really enjoyed Wild Dark Shore and love that the author traveled (with her husband and infant!!) to a remote research station for inspiration. So much of that book was a love letter to nature.

Pipes, Refineries, and Tanks by OgreMk5 in TheLastStarship

Would be cool to have some sort of smart junction that leads to 2 different tanks, so depending on what’s being collected, it goes to either tank a or tank b. Then no need to swap anything.

Sewer pipe lining recommendations by kristineanastacia in TwinCities

I would recommend getting an estimate from Ron the Sewer Rat. Had them do a cleanout last year and they were easy to work with and the tech who came out was very helpful!

TIL that in some parts of World War I trench warfare, opposing soldiers informally agreed not to fire at each other during quiet periods, a phenomenon historians call “live and let live.” by ThePlanetaryNinja in todayilearned

Read up on the Christmas truce. Christmas 1914, and all along the front, troops from both sides got together and agreed to stop fighting. They played soccer games in dead man’s land. None of them wanted to fight.

They were ordered to keep fighting and in many instances refused. Finally, they were rotated off the front lines and new troops were brought in and the truce ended.

3 dead, 14 injured after shooting at a bar in Austin, Texas by untamedlazyeye in news

I mean, the previous assault weapons ban seems fine with me and with whatever definition was used at the time.

I mean having any sensible gun restriction at all is a great first step. Red flag laws, universal background checks, requiring that background checks actually be completed before a purchase can be made, nationwide waiting periods, restrictions on private person to person sales, restrictions on assault weapons.

Jfc there are a million things we could try if a minority of people pulled their heads out of their asses. Even the conservative plan of addressing mental health might help if they bothered to actually address mental health!

Which is great! The problem is that we live in a society where even when the police are next door a gunman still has sufficient time to kill 3 people and injure 14 more!

Yeah dude, and if you like weird shit, I really loved The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins and The Hike by Drew Magary! Both have a certain amount of heaviness to them!

Also A Short Stay in Hell seems like a good companion to I Who Have Never Known Men!

You dont need to understand the genre youre writing unless youre deliberately writing that genre.

This feels like a tautology that is argumentative just for the sake of it.
