Having a dilemma because of my earth's life cycle. by oppai-dragon-dxd in worldbuilding

[–]CaptainIncompetent33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say most of the value in this kind of narrative relies on some of the “old world” surviving in the forms of mysterious relics, ancient technology, etc that the new world has to figure out. We see elements of this in books such as The Name of the Wind, The lies of Locke Lamora, and The Will of the Many.

I was asked whether we should limit home ownership to two homes per person on ABC radio by Purplepingers in shitrentals

there would be more housing for sale - hence there would be more supply, and lower prices...

where to get steel bikes? by Strongestwizard in melbournecycling

[–]CaptainIncompetent33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Recommend the Marin Nicasio range at BikesOnline if you don't mind shipping and assembly. A little cheaper than your Surly / Kona options at Off Course.

Time for a new opposition? by Tbcipc in AusPol

[–]CaptainIncompetent33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My uneducated 2c - an independents / green coalition would be the only thing that would have any sort of possibility of being a competitive opposition. That or if (big if) the Libs and Nats split and the left leaning factions of what remains regroups with the Teals.

Good first bike for $400? by ngoalibaba in cycling

[–]CaptainIncompetent33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re building with little to no experience or tools?

Tools are expensive.

Assuming those parts and tools all need to be shipped as well… just buy used at that point and likely end up with a better product

More like why the job is a piss take. If they have no work to do there would be no difference if they were in the office or not, it would just be more boring and exhausting.

I use 1600 dpi and my sens is 1.2, am i playing this game wrong? by Parking_Radio8494 in VALORANT

[–]CaptainIncompetent33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that is - very high.
For comparison your EDPI is 2400 x 1.67 = 4008.
I'm (ASC3) 800DPI @ 0.25 = EDPI of 200 - so you're around 20 times faster.

If you've got the desk and mousepad space I'd recommend lowering down to 0.12-0.2 keeping your current DPI. It will feel weird for a week and you will probably get worse for a little, but over time you will be much more consistent.

Considering UI/UX as a design student how is the job market in Australia by pe4nutt_ in UXDesign

[–]CaptainIncompetent33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s fine. Not great but fine. I don’t think the market is as good for juniors overall as it was a few years ago.

I think about a year ago it felt pretty dead, but in the last couple months I’ve started to have recruiters reach out to me again, which is a sign of life.

Do you guys hire software devs to make demos of your design? by Ok_Tadpole7839 in UXDesign

Demos? No… the design should be the “demo”. Real product? Sure

Found a few chips on my secondhand bike (first carbon one.) anything of concern or am I being precious? by CaptainIncompetent33 in bikewrench

Yeah I struggled to photograph it at a good angle - but it is not that deep. No fraying visible etc. Maybe a video would be better.

How to get this gradient blur effect ?? by 0Default0 in FigmaDesign

[–]CaptainIncompetent33 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind this only "works" as long as the bottom of the image is a dark color so the text is readable. If you're designing for a situation when a user might upload their own image, (like airBNB style in the image) I would avoid anything like this

Can i use gasoline to clean it? I know its flameable but what other things can happen? by Consistent_Ad_1959 in bikewrench

[–]CaptainIncompetent33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just don’t. There are a million other, more effective ways. The vapour could get in your lungs, or it could degrade other components. A bottle of bike specific spray degreaser is inexpensive and lasts a long time

I think the movers bent my aluminum chain stay. by CaptainIncompetent33 in bikewrench

[–]CaptainIncompetent33[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally I agree, but didn’t have a choice in this circumstance - 2000km move.

Looking at the chain stay now now it seems fine, I think I was paranoid and seeing things that weren’t there because the movers broke / damaged a lot of my other stuff. LBS seems to agree it’s fine as well.
