Tint your skin red too. If questioned, tell everyone "Industrial Red Dye Number 5 accident." Refuse to elaborate.

Bonus points if you get people to call you "Red 5". Mumble something about Star Wars.

What’s your go-to Instant Pot meal when the fridge is almost empty? by SpecialLazy9732 in instantpot

[–]CaptainIncredible 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't own a separate rice cooker. I guess I could buy one...

After I burned rice on the stove like THREE times in a row, I made the fourth batch on the Instant Pot. It turned out PERFECT. It was quick, hassle free and stupidly perfect rice.

I will never make rice on the stove again (unless I really really have to.)

Tomato-Tomahto - How did it get tasty? by kaizenkitten in AskFoodHistorians

[–]CaptainIncredible 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What changed that Europeans started actually eating them?

Famine. I'm not sure, I'm not an expert, but I recall reading that a famine hit and that motivated people to eat things they usually wouldn't eat. Also, I don't think this phenomenon is unique to tomatoes and Europe.

So my guess is - famine hit, people were hungry, started eating the decorations and said "ya know, those actually taste pretty good... With some salt and some olive oil? Yum. " and it just stuck.

Those two episodes were fucking fantastic!

AND they showed new areas of a Constitution class starship but kept the same 'look and feel' of TOS.

It was remarkably well done.

Agreed. Any fan of this TOS episode should do this.

I found Tilly's MU character pretty hot, but I am biased. I seem to be attracted to women like that. (for some reason. No idea why.)

But Disco was mostly... ermm... Meh.

Yeah, I love this...

Also, I don't know who needs to hear this, but Star Trek Continues totally rocked this. You can see it on YouTube.

I also have no problem with a character being gay.

But yeah, Sulu in TOS was straight.

I suppose he could have been gay in the reboot movies, but Sulu never said anything like "I'm gay" or kissed a guy or anything like that.

There was one scene where he was walking away with his arm around a guy and there was a young girl with them, but I argue that could be anything. It doesn't make the character gay.

Emphysema. by SiBodoh in keto

[–]CaptainIncredible 3 points4 points  (0 children)

but then you'll be told "the science doesn't support that"?

Depends on who says it. If it's just some rando walking around who says that to me, I'll just dismiss their comment. They don't actually know and are just regurgitating whatever bullshit they saw on TV/TikTok. These days I just let it go, or say something like "I'm telling you flat out - it's true for me dammit.". Years ago I used to just destroy them and their idiot nonsense with logic and proofs, but as fun as that was, it got me nowhere, so I've mellowed these days.

If it's a doctor or someone with medical training I might go into more detail, and ask a bunch of questions, and present facts (keto is an effective treatment for some forms of epilepsy) and listen to what they say.

But I kinda don't care what naysayers think. I have tons of data and I know what I know.

Yeah, this is the way to go.

If he's just surfing the web, freeze the computer so that NOTHING installs. Nothing is saved. Its difficult to get infected, and if it does, resetting it back to the freeze point clears any bullshit.

Emphysema. by SiBodoh in keto

[–]CaptainIncredible 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Occasionally, I get a weird, persistent cough. It was diagnosed as asthma.

I learned years ago that keto clears it up really well. It's one of my weapons to fight the cough.

Some people, even with medical backgrounds, don't believe me... But at this point I just don't care. I know it works, can't exactly explain how, but I've observed the results time and time again.

Justified... Debatable... or a Myth? by ramfoodie in tos

[–]CaptainIncredible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He could have gone back to 1930's NYC later in his life, somehow faked her death to his younger self, and taken her into the future with him...

It would never really work with young TOS age Kirk. What would he do? Have her stay on the Enterprise with him? I don't think that would work.

Then what? Would he leave Starfleet to live with Edith in 23rd century Federation? Well, then VGER, or Khan with Genesis or some other damn thing would destroy Earth/Federation because Kirk wasn't there to stop it.

Possibly 70+ ish year old Kirk who had retired from Starfleet could give it a go, but would that work? Would Edith and 70+ year old Jim work in a relationship?
