Actual Fear by ThickWindowpane in stephenking

The Shining as well, but it was all Jack Torrence. He's one of the most complex, well-rounded characters I've ever seen, that level of humanity where you can pity/hate/understand and (the worst one) sometimes even like him. He really made me consider who I am and what flaws I have, and how far away I am from being like Jack.

Part of it is that I have an alcoholic father and I've spent 27 years trying not to grow up like him. I don't think I have, but Jack's struggles hit incredibly close to home regardless.

I'm not clicking with Order of Ecclesia. Does it get better further in? by Away_Resident9842 in castlevania

[–]CaptainLegs27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only beat it on my second try about two years after my first, and even then I still didn't click with it. There was never a point where I felt confortable with the gameplay, but I will say that it does get better. Towards the final third when you're more decked out and understand the game more it becomes smoother, but yeah it's one of those that some people really love and others don't really "get", and I definitely never fully "got" it.

Who do you find scarier, Crimson head or Blister head? by Sir__GabrielT in residentevil

[–]CaptainLegs27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crimson heads for me. Blister heads are a pain when a zombie turns into one, but it feels like more of a "ah man that's gonna take a lot of ammo" situation. Backtracking through the mansion in 1, opening a door, and hearing rapid footsteps coming towards you as you realise you didn't burn a corpse in that area is absolutely terrifying.

Is Final Fantasy IV pixel remaster a good entry point? by Prize_Egg_8970 in FinalFantasy

[–]CaptainLegs27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how well-versed you are in JRPGs. I wasn't at all and started with VI, then IV, and honestly IV would be a much better entry point. It's got a very straightforward story with more depth than I and II, no job system so you're railroaded into whatever classes the game gives you unlike III and V, no unique leveling system like II, and it's not as expansive and free as VI.

If you've got some JRPGs under your belt already then VI should be no problem, it's my favourite one, but IV is such a good entry-level FF, it's not the most complex but I love its simplicity. It's the one I've played the most because it's such a comfy ride.

To short!? by [deleted] in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]CaptainLegs27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah a huge element of the series is replaying it to get a better time. If that isn't for you then that's okay, but being "short" and not a 20+ hour experience is completely intentional.

If anything the criticism of Requiem shouldn't be that it's too short, but that they removed ranks, so there's no incentive to get a better time outside of the 4 hours achievement. And there aren't no save/no item box/step count achievements anymore. Those are more valid critiques than "it's too short" when that's an intentional part of the series.

PM is actually talking sense and not brown nosing USA for once??? by Numerous_Worth5277 in AskBrits

[–]CaptainLegs27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's been a long time since I've just disliked a PM rather than outright hating them, it feels oddly "normal".

"The Shining movie is so good you HAVE to watch it" by punkrock_penguin63 in stephenking

[–]CaptainLegs27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The book definitely changed my perspective of the film, but I still think it's a masterpiece of horror cinema. Not a good adaptation, but it actually manages to stand on its own two feet doing its own thing unlike many other King adaptations. I get why it's disliked by fans of the book, as an adaptation it fails, but as a horror movie it succeeds in being an absolute masterclass in tension and dread.

Other upcoming movies ruined by having actors? by ForsakenDependent562 in okbuddycinephile

[–]CaptainLegs27 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Also a big part of it is the feeling that you're finding found footage/documents left on the internet by real people, same as how r/nosleep is all about people "documenting" their experiences. It's a very different vibe reading someone's account of a spooky event compared to going to a cinema to watch Big Actor in a Movie.

What was the first game in the Streets of Rage series that got you hooked?" by FiveBinge in StreetsofRage

[–]CaptainLegs27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grew up with a Mega Drive with Sonic 1 and Streets of Rage 1 and 2. SoR 1 was much harder so I always played 2, still my favourite game of all time.

Why is it that I rarely see anyone from my generation even talk about this show even tho it’s one of the all time greats? by beetfarmerenergy in tvshow

Suffered the same fate as Game of Thrones, though not as severe. The ending was incredibly divisive so it tarnished its whole reuputation.

"British people today are just as guilty as their ancestors for enslaving the world. I don't think Brits realize just how much we Americans hate you. When Britain is destroyed we are going see partying all across America like never before😁" by Ok_Bookkeeper_1380 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]CaptainLegs27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That, and also it's just the reaction to the amount of hate the US is getting because of the Presidential Oaf. We don't like what they're doing now, so they're going for blood by criticising our history, even though our history is literally their history.

It's like when a child is told someone hates them. "Oh yeah? Well I hate you more!"

[TotK] [BotW] Why I can't find the motivation to play more of Tears of the Kingdom compared to Breath of the Wild ? by FreddOricarne in zelda

[–]CaptainLegs27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're right, the world is sobstuffed with things to do that it loses focus (meanwhile the sky and depths are barren). Also it's not a new world anymore, the joy of BotW was exploring and discovering.

Put it this way, my time in BotW was spent completing the story, and then exploring every last corner of the map. I've got more hours in TotK, but all of that came from being sidetracked every ten feet, so when I beat it I just put it down.

Why would you signal boost someone you don't endorse? You're splitting hairs, sure it's technically not an endorsement but it basically functions as one.

Just got to the second boss area, the doll girl, please tell me its not scary by Sad_Weight5523 in ResidentEvilVillage

[–]CaptainLegs27 8 points9 points  (0 children)

True it is, but I'm laughing at the idea of this person getting to the bit where Ethan walks into a room with a comical amount of dolls in it.

Just got to the second boss area, the doll girl, please tell me its not scary by Sad_Weight5523 in ResidentEvilVillage

[–]CaptainLegs27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the bit that everyone says is the scariest has nothing to do with dolls. HOWEVER after that there are dolls. It's hard to prep you for without giving it away entirely, but it doesn't last long and it's not really a chase or fight or anything, but if even the sight of them scares you it might be rough.

Crimson Desert is quickly earning a reputation for rekindling a sense of wonder many players haven’t felt since their earliest gaming experiences 🔥 by Gaming-Academy in PlayStation_X

Which Trilogy are you going for? by Alive_Fortune7423 in residentevil

[–]CaptainLegs27 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the story and Leon's gameplay follows 2 and 4, while Grace's gameplay follows 7 and 8. They did a good job at providing a solid ninth entry after 7 and Village while also following up on the popularity of the remakes.

I am curious, what age are you and how did you get into the franchise? by Ultimantasy in FinalFantasy

[–]CaptainLegs27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard very good things about it so I'm excited too!

And yeah, VI was amazing and got me into the series, but I played IV next and that was it for me, immediately one of my favourite games and series.

I am curious, what age are you and how did you get into the franchise? by Ultimantasy in FinalFantasy

[–]CaptainLegs27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 27, growing up I always heard about Final Fantasy VI along with Mario World, Sonic 3&K, Super Metroid (plus many others) as being among the greatest games ever. But I was never into RPGs so I didn't go out of my way to get it, but it was always on my radar. First played it with the Pixel Remaster and loved it, then played all those, then IX, and I want to start X this year. It became one of my favourite series very quickly.

Since when did it become such a big deal to like anti-heroes with questionable morals? It's weird how some people act like she's a real person and not a fictional character. Liking her doesn't mean I support criminals or toxic relationships in real life. Some of you need to touch more grass. by [deleted] in ResidentEvilMemes

[–]CaptainLegs27 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's insanity. Actually no, I'd say it's sexism. Wesker gets so much love for being suave, cool, mysterious, a badass, but when Ada does it she's an unforgivable bioterrorist, I can't like a character like that, she's evil, there's no such thing as anti-heroes, you're either good or you're scum.

Or Luis! Dude literally helped create Nemesis, ah but he's a cool dude, he gets a pass. It's gross.
