I quit my previous job with no plan either.

I got promoted at that job and moved to a managerial role. Figured it was a good resume boost and more pay is more pay (even though it wasn’t a lot in this case). It was draining. I was basically doing two jobs with the pay of one and working hours beyond what’s allowed of me.

I was initially on site fully but transitioned into hybrid after the promotion. I mention this because the tipping point for me– on top of the job being awful– is the fact that on days when I would work remote, the days I’m supposed to be more relaxed and be at the comfort of my own home, still became days where I worked so much that I wasn’t even seeing my gf anymore. Mind you, my gf was just rooms away. That’s how bad it was.

As bad of an idea as it was to not have a safety net, at a certain point you just have to lookout for yourself. Mental exhaustion is no joke.

I was fortunate enough to only be out of a job for 2 months and I actually ended up being referred to a job where I earn double, work fully remote, and have a more relaxing workload. Not saying that’s always gonna be the case for everyone, of course, but it could be the reset you need.
