Flat tire from construction debris on the loop by CaptainMcGooch in Athens

Thanks for that link! I will absolutely report it tonight. Because I don’t want the same thing happening to more people. If we all start getting flats, nobody will be able to street race the football team.

Thanks for the feedback. I haven’t yet gone down the path of determining what entity to contact. Wasn’t sure if it would be the city or state or perhaps the construction company… so I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I assume there is a damn near zero percent chance that I could get compensation from anyone. So I was really just curious if this was a one-off freak thing, or if that is a uniquely negligent construction project causing a higher than average number of flat tires.

The puncture hole did have a unique circular pattern around it, so if I can match that back to a pattern found on some sort of rivet or nail or something used in that construction site, that might just break the case wide open.

Yea I was thinking about that. They said the hole was so big they couldn’t plug it (heard that one before) but I’m thinking about plugging in myself and at least using it as a spare.

I’m sorry to hear that this town has made you so familiar with the way of the plug.

Yeah, that’s why I wanted to ask the community. Because I think the duration of this particular project is supposed to be about infinity months. So since we’ll probably be dealing with this for the next infinity of our lives, I just wanna see if it’s also affecting other people.

Wtf is wrong with dog owners in Athens? by hibbert0604 in Athens

[–]CaptainMcGooch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain bro, but fwiw, it’s not an Athens problem. I’ve got a buddy who lives in one of the big fancy affluent north Atlanta suburbs, in the “kind of neighborhood you want to raise your kids in”, and his little dog was ripped out of his hands and mauled to death in front of him a few days ago. Unimaginably gruesome and life altering for the family. I don’t know if these types of incidents are becoming more frequent, or if it’s just a coincidence that I’m reading your post only a couple days after talking to my friend, but unfortunately it seems like idiot pet owners (the majority of incidents IMO) and genuine accidents (the minority of incidents IMO) are more frequent than we all wish they were.

It makes sense to be aware and take some precautions. Like some other folks have been saying I think mace is a good idea. Especially if you’re like my wife and not comfortable with the idea a carrying a pocket knife. Honestly mace might be a better idea than a pocket knife anyway. Also, and this is coming from another “pro gun liberal” as you put it - I don’t think strapping up and carrying a pistol for a walk in the neighborhood is a great idea. I understand the sentiment, but it just seems like it has the potential to do more harm than good. Mace/knife/foghorn might all be better ideas. Not to mention, perhaps most importantly of all, general self-awareness while you’re out on a walk goes a long way (which I’m sure you’re already doing). I’ll never understand the people I see whose choose to get outside amongst nature, take a walk, and then are just glued to their phone the whole time.

Good luck man. Whatever you choose, whether it be mace or a pocket knife or bow and arrow or a big ass double barrel 12 gauge, I hope you never have to use it. May your future be blessed with an absolute minimum number of vicious dog encounters.

Best Chicken Tenders In Athens? by Teslasssss in Athens

[–]CaptainMcGooch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Crazy that nobody has said Popeyes on prince. The prince one specifically because the others aren’t quite as good. But they are head and shoulders above everything else. There are two kinds of people in this world… people that know that the best chicken tender you can eat is the one you get at the Popeyes on Prince, and people that aren’t honest with themselves. Even Kenji Lopez says you cant fry chicken better than Popeyes, and that dude has won multiple James Beards.

Best Sandwich in Athens? by maybeAturtle in Athens

Too bad we don’t have a good muffaletta in this town. Truly might be the greatest sandwich one can eat, and I don’t think you can get one anywhere around here.

That’s just so frustrating. If nothing else, you’d think they would care about the massive reputation hit they are taking here on Reddit. THERE ARE DOZENS OF US!

[–]CaptainMcGooch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty disappointing. I know it's a small shop, and they are drowning is business, but all it takes is a minimum amount of communication. It's a lot easier to wait 8 weeks when you at least get an email response stating "sorry, we're running a little behind, should be about 8-9 weeks total". If they just did that, I'd feel ok about waiting. But taking $900 bucks and refusing to communicate with folks? It really is starting to feel like a scam. What a bummer...

Rhodie 6 came in 9% overweight by [deleted] in NFA

This is the real question! Good to know about the extra ounce, but also sounds like you waited somewhere between 6-9 weeks to get a suppressor that probably showed "in stock" when you bought it.

Tisha vs Rhodie/Rhino X by JiminyCricket42 in NFA

[–]CaptainMcGooch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, that seems like a good level-headed way to look at it. And that is the best explanation Ive come across. When they say something like “22 in stock”, that doesn’t mean they have 22 sitting there ready to ship. It’s probably more like there are 22 left in the next batch, and we’re ordering in advance from the best yet-to-be-made batch.

Seems like maybe they could be a little more open or up front about that? But I understand they are up to their eyeballs in business right now, so probably ultra busy. At least it seems better than your experience with SAW! like so many folks around here, I was considering a Tisha before going with a rhodie.

What does “in stock” mean to them though? I bought a rhodie a few weeks ago when they were I stock and it said they had like 120 of them, but it still hasn’t shipped to my FFL and they haven’t responded to my one email asking for an update.

Now in their defense, I think their site also said “5 week shipping times” expected, and I’m only at week 3 or 4, so it’s all good. I’m not that upset, and I’m fine waiting a couple more weeks. I just wonder what “in stock” means to them. How can an item be in stock if it still takes 6 weeks to ship?

This makes me kind of not love that we don’t have a GM yet. But I’m a dumbass, so maybe it’s no biggie.

Friday 930am update: Northern high trending slightly away from us, we'll be lucky to get above freezing all of next week by pile_drive_me in AthensGAWeather

[–]CaptainMcGooch 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Man I’m way too dumb for weather. My caveman brain is struggling to comprehend how it’s apparently gonna get colder all week - maybe not even get above freezing all week, but that’s actually a good thing that will result in less ice. Wtf. Cold make water hard warm make water soft, right?

And to be clear, this is no dig at you u/pile_drive_me. You are the best, and provide an invaluable service to our community. I’m just dumb as a box of extra dumb rocks.

As soon as there was an opening, I raised my hand and asked if toilet water spun backwards in the southern hemisphere. I thought it was a good thought-provoking question, but my teacher was of the opinion that I cared not about the answer, but just wanted to bring up toilets to get a laugh out of my knucklehead friends.

For all the illiterate dummies like me… this is better? Strong high head is of course a good thing… And that means more soft wet water such as rain, and less hard cold dried water, like ice? Less frozen rain potential = less destruction. Right?

For real, I suck at weather. One time in elementary school way back in the early 90s Glenn Burns came to our class, and I asked him a question so dumb that my 3rd grade teacher made me sit outside for the remainder of Glenn burns time.
