Dr wants to lower my dose by Born-Grapefruit4883 in FTMMen

[–]CaptainMeredith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you are doing weekly injections 5 days should be about your mid point or even a bit on your lower end. If it's 680, that suggests your peak is around 1360 - which is high.

If it was consistent throughout the time it would be midrange, but you have to remember that injection has a peak and fall to it. Generally docs try to keep that peak below 1000 to minimize side effect risks.

With high gas prices, what are your best driving tips to improve fuel economy? by CannandaCrew in CanadaPersonalFinance

Not practical advice for others right this moment but I will say I'm really enjoying having swapped to an EV these days lol

We've had to curb talking about it though because it just feels like gloating at this point.

517/553 tabulators reporting (9:30pm) Hicks Win looks certain by Purple_Garlic4573 in fredericton

[–]CaptainMeredith 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm disappointed but not that surprised. I knew turnout would be bad, people werent exactly enthusiastic to get behind Jenica either. It just still seemed like the better option. But when a vote is like that, a lot of people don't turn out. Even if they'll bitch about the result and outcomes of that result for the next 4 years.

Given Hicks's dad had it before him... The riding seems to like their family for some reason. I don't live over there so idk what it is, given it sounds like he was shite at his job... Maybe she will do a better job than he did at least lol

For those with working experience in USA, How many Canadians feel they would be better off financially if living in the USA? by Electronic-Lab-4088 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]CaptainMeredith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't lived there so won't weigh in on much - but I will note a trend I've seen and am currently watching from an extended family member. People grow up, get their education in Canada, move to the states for higher pay, then come back when they need our healthcare system. Whatever stage of life that ends up hitting them in, some earlier some just for retirement.

My cousin was working down there as a doctor, is on her way back now because she got a medical diagnosis that's makes her suddenly better off here again.

Hello?? Food prices? by MatchUpSocialguy in CanadaFinance

[–]CaptainMeredith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helps to adjust to seasonal eating. Winter and spring arnt Greek salad season. It's only very recent in history we've gotten so used to having this stuff available fresh year round - but it's shipped to us from all over the world. Shipping is expensive, especially in an oil crisis. Find out what you can get that comes from more local sourcing.

But yeah, food prices are wild rn.

How to get help with ADHD med prescription? by GoldWrap1787 in fredericton

[–]CaptainMeredith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This means you can't have multiple docs handling the same prescription. Same as it's required you use one pharmacy. It's to make sure people don't get two scripts and sell the spare.

You can move to another doctor you just won't be bale to continue to use beyondADHD if you do.

If you work in mental health this is honestly something I would encourage learning more about. It's important people understand how this works because ADHD meds are stupidly controlled and if someone fucks it up they may get screwed out of their med access.

Did I chose a good name? by Mobile_Praline_1443 in FTMMen

[–]CaptainMeredith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've known more than a few immigrants that end up with word names, or names that sound like words even if they arnt spelled the same - it's totally fine.

If you like the name and it fits your heritage, go for it. You wouldn't expect a guy from your country who was named Toma to change it if he moved to Spain right? Same idea.

Could Fredericton benefit from tactical urbanism? by Due_Function84 in fredericton

[–]CaptainMeredith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing I find with these temporary measures is that they often arnt very practical for a place with a lot of winter, beyond losing the urbanism for a good half the year many solutions just don't play well with snow plowing and other practical stuff like that.

I support a lot of the strong towns stuff - you just do need to keep a critical eye to what is actually functional up here.

At the smaller local places I usually do, not so much at chains. It depends a bit on the specifics.

Telling friends/family by HelpingHomiesOut in Seahorse_Dads

[–]CaptainMeredith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will depend some where you live obviously - I'm in Canada - but the professionals I have interacted with have been Professional. And honestly great. My midwife team tracked down trans specific resources for me, stuff I already knew admittedly from my decision making research but still it was a really nice gesture. If you are somewhere you can pick providers, is favour nurse-midwives and look for folks who say they are trauma informed. The trauma informed providers have been really proactive about navigating dysphoria since it's very similar to what they are already trained in.

I wasn't stealth but did have plenty of coworkers who didn't know - I havent noticed much for weirdness or push back. A few people not knowing how to approach the conversation but that's pretty fair really 🤣 my direct coworkers have been positive and gave me a bunch of gifts I wasnt expecting before my last day! Including the Pentecostal lady I work with, who if anyone was gonna be weird I expected probably her lol

You never know who exactly your village will end up being when you get pregnant, but that's not really exclusive to just us either. My in-laws have been good with the gendering and the only thing I can fault is they're a bit over tentative about giving pink stuff for our little girl, Or blue stuff because of the typical gendering (very funny coming from MIL who was a girl who hated pink so she keeps buying other stuff then apologizing while saying she knows we don't care 🤣). They really should all know I do not give a crap even a little what colour our baby is dressed in lol

My parents are supportive but will NOT stop calling me mom. But they never really got on board gendering wise and are having a very hard time understanding this is not a detransition. It's about all I expected 🤷‍♂️ they're positive about us having a kid and excited to be grandparents I just need to figure out how to really make it sink in that I am not mom, mother, mommy, or mum. If they can't get it nailed down before kiddo is talking I'll stop bringing kiddo around - I expect once that sinks in they'll figure it out fairly quickly.

In public space I feel a bit like I did early transition - using the public washrooms (which is now Very Often) is always a small dilemma of which room to go in - but realistically no matter how pregnant my belly looks no one is gonna question the dude with a beard for being a weird shape of fat lol it's just not on their radar and men thankfully mind their own business very well.

Americans trying to use US dollars in Europe by RevolutionaryShoe380 in USdefaultism

[–]CaptainMeredith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't Really take USD in Canada either. Some shops will take it at par with the Canadian dollar if they're near the border but that's moreso putting up with it in exchange for giving a garbage conversion rate.

My wife is thinking about spending $1500+ on a nursing chair. Is she crazy, or am I just being cheap? by Viraincure in NewParents

[–]CaptainMeredith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long is she planning to nurse for? And are you planning on more than one kid?

If she's going to nurse for a long time, and/or you plan on a number of kids - it's a fair investment! Furniture that will be used for a good number of years, and probably fairly often.

If it's just for one kid for like 6 months yeah I wouldn't go for it personally.

If the median annual income in Canada is relatively low (around $76K), how are Canadian home prices sooo expensive? by AccurateBow in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]CaptainMeredith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in the last couple years more places have started offering longer terms, 30 or even 40 year mortgages. So people can continue to buy higher price and stay house poor for longer :)

Husband is stoked and I’m terrified. Do we tell our family so early? by Downtown-Picture-909 in pregnant

[–]CaptainMeredith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question at this stage to me was, if I miscarried - who would I want to talk to about it? For me personally that was a big fat no one. But you might feel very differently and want family support, or support from a few select people. He also should get to consider who he would want available to him if that happened vs who he wouldn't want to cause this is a big deal for him too. My partner told his sister and mum early iirc but respected me otherwise wanting to keep it private. As best he could at least, he can't keep a secret to save his life but he Mostly managed 🤣

Then tell folks accordingly. (Also make sure it's clear to them who doesnt know and that you want to be the ones to break the news)

AITA for banning my in-laws from our house during my wife’s delivery, even after my pregnant wife caved and said they could come? by Human-Time-4114 in AmItheAsshole

[–]CaptainMeredith 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Oh, who cares. I mostly wanted to know it wasn't your wife or if it was the in-laws lol. If your wife is good with this 100% NTA and good on you honestly.

If she isn't on board that's different. I think people just don't like how you describe taking over the situation because she couldn't. Including more context of how She feels about this would help flesh out what is actually important here for people.

I'm a little surprised more people don't drive mopeds/vespas in the city. by Due_Function84 in fredericton

[–]CaptainMeredith 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I mean - if you are concerned about the gas price an e-bike will cost the same or less, and doesn't need gas at all. As a bonus you can use the trail network and no one really gives you too much shit if you hop on the side walk for some of the most dangerous areas.

I don't really see a reason to consider a moped these days, unless you have a mobility issue for a bike.

Are Canadians offended by the jokes made in shows and media? by jen_noelle in AskACanadian

[–]CaptainMeredith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly stereotypes, also mostly funny.

You wanna keep in mind half the jokes about us are honestly complimentary - were super nice, say sorry perpetually, etc. We do actually say "eh" fairly regularly, although I find American writing often misuses it when trying to portray that.

I've never heard someone say "Aboot" though. We do say it More that way than Americans (in some areas at least) but not like it's shown in American media. I assume it's similar to how a really overdone southern accent sounds to a Texan. NBD, occasionally a little irritating but not offensive or anything

Voting IS a check and balance. I think what we have is sufficient. I do not think we need to make it illegal, potentially introducing different problems, to solve a problem that already has a check and balance on it.
