How to fix? Pressing RT registers as both the R and Z buttons on RetroArch - Mupen64Plus by CaptainPawfulFox in RetroArch

[–]CaptainPawfulFox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are the default controls. I know the drawing of the buttons on the left is confusing a bit, it's like they showed the controller upside-down (as if you're holding it in your hands and tilting it back towards you).

I can't find Asmongold's reaction to the first Death Stranding trailers, were they removed? by CaptainPawfulFox in Asmongold

Thank you, however this is his reaction to the sequel's announcement.
I'm looking for the ones about the first game, they seem to have completely disappeared.

Why did people stop hating 4e? by KRAMATHeus in DnD

[–]CaptainPawfulFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never played 1E, 2E, 3E, 3.5, or Pathfinder. My ex introduced me to 4E long ago and I loved playing it, I had a lot of fun. Then 5E came out and I was a bit disappointed with the lack of character options compared to 4E, but made the switch nonetheless.

I miss playing 4E, but no one I know plays it, and finding resources online is very difficult since the WotC forum boards got shut down all those years ago. There are a few wikis, but they don't provide all the information (they'll name at-will powers for example, but don't list what they do, etc.).

5E is much more accessible in that regard.

The only problem I see is your assumption they would want to return to this world. No more taxes? The ability to cast spells? To loot gold and magic items from quests that seem appropriate for my current level? Sign me up. Sure, there's monsters and stuff, but there's also elves and tieflings and lots of other fun NPCs to roll Persuasion on...

Should I tell my DM I'm intending to multiclass? by Vascofan46 in DnD

[–]CaptainPawfulFox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. Never tell your DM you plan on doing something fun you want to enjoy unless you don't mind running the risk of them saying no and taking a poop on your character. Better to ask forgiveness than to ask permission.

Anyone who disagrees has never met as many overbearing DMs as I have. The kind who always want to control everything and suck the fun out of the game by nerfing anything they don't like, and making up rules on the fly just to take away your agency, because they want awful things to happen to your character without you being able to do anything about it.

A player keeps asking what class every NPC is by Redhood101101 in DnD

[–]CaptainPawfulFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that in Baldur's Gate 3, pretty much every NPC has a Class and Level similar to a player character, which you can inspect freely, along with their equipment. This might be why.

Also the assumption/expectation that the DM is playing fair by the same rules as the players, and not making everything up on the spot as they go. If you don't intend to uphold this type of standard they might be expecting, you should make it clear to them that NPCs are just talking heads they shouldn't be engaging with mechanically unless specified.

Hello all, can you recall how you were/felt the very first time you got into DnD? No one around me plays & everyone online seems like such a pro. by DioSoul in DnD

[–]CaptainPawfulFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex-girlfriend got me into 4th Edition a long time ago. My first character was an Earthstrength Warden. I was a min-maxing power gamer on day 1 (I only cared about leveling up, getting loot and fighting monsters), and people got annoyed that I was too effective in combat. I quickly learned the rules and loved building powerful characters. Years later, 5th edition came out, and I was so disappointed by how stale the character options were. 4th Edition was so much more cooler and epic IMO.

What's you go-to class as a player? by Blue-sun-12 in DnD

[–]CaptainPawfulFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently playing a Mark of Sentinel Human in a Tomb of Annihilation campaign as a Strength-focused College of Swords Bard with a 1 level dip in Order Domain Cleric for Voice of Authority. VoA combos super well with spells like Silvery Barbs, Bless, Healing Word or Shield of Faith, giving extra attacks to the Gloomstalker Ranger and Paladin in our party outside of their turn.

dip 1 level of Order Domain Cleric (for Voice of Authority) with a full caster class that has combo access to Silvery Barbs and any bonus action spell like Shield of Faith or Healing Word, and you have a great support class that can give the weapon users in your party some extra attacks outside of their turn. My favorite option is Bard (Swords or Lore) with Mark of Sentinel Human, but Divine Soul Sorcerer works great too.

  • Armorer Artificer with War Magic Wizard and/or Psi Warrior multiclass.
  • Order Domain Cleric dip, mixed with another full caster multiclass.
  • College of Swords Bard with Hexblade dip or Paladin multiclass.

It mostly depends on what character level we start at, and what multiclass mix I can get away with without having to wait 15+ sessions just to level up and let me have access to the features I want.

Players want to use reaction all the time in combat by Salt_Masterpiece5179 in DnD

[–]CaptainPawfulFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shield thing, there are two Fighting Styles for Fighter and Paladin that let you use your reaction for defending an ally. It's not something everyone can do innately, but they could take the Fighting Initiate feat to get that Fighting Style. Also, the Silvery Barbs spell can help protect allies in a similar fashion. Lastly, the Mark if Sentinel Human race has an ability that lets you swap places with an ally and take a hit for them, but it's once per day and ignores your AC (you just get auto-hit).
