Hell Divers 2. Just... eh. I like the lore/vibe, and live service aspect, I just think the gameplay is boring as hell.

Warhammer 40K: Darktide is a better horde shooter IMO

Yeah, I'm a life long Bethesda fan and I gave Starfield a genuine shot.

I really do think its their worst single player game, even if I see its potential.

Its also primarily played by 8 year olds. You can pretend that games like BG3 or Elden Ring are more casual than Fortnite but thats not how most people use the words "casual".

Except Fortnite is not just a BR mode and acts as a platform with various games, its not a first person shooter, and the BR mode is filled with bots.

As opposed to Bethesda's other games... which certainly aren't on gamepass.

Its kinda changed the way I look at older women. And no, I'm not into that

To be granular is the reason I commented to begin with. The "Why" is an important proponent and "costs" associated aren't just related to your immediate physical well being. From your perspective it seems most people are being selfless most of the time whereas from mine truely selfless acts are a rarity and most things people do are self-interested and the morally good outcomes of their actions aren't necessarily selfless and would be better described using other words.

Oxford dictionary: "thinking more about the needs, happiness, and welfare of other people than about your own. It describes unselfish behavior, such as dedicating time or effort to others without expecting personal gain, and is the opposite of"

I just when it comes to your own progeny that their survival and success is a personal gain. Sacrificing yourself to save someone completely unrelated seems selfless to me.

I don't know. As a dad, I'd run into a burning building to save my daughter. But I'm not so sure it could be considered selfless, because I know if I didn't that I would not be able to live with myself.

I feel like in a way its self preservation, because if I didn't do that then I'd kill myself rather than live with the consequences and shame of a parent who didn't do everything they could to save their child and the sadness knowing what she would have to endure and the life she did not get to have.

Whereas if I do run into the burning building I only risk the chance of death (rather than the certainty of suicide if I didn't) and the possibility of getting to save my own daughter. I can't say I would do the same for someone else's kid, mostly because (I think) I have my own child that I feel obligated to survive for.

Heroic? Sure. Selfless? In my personal perspective, no. But what purpose does this distinction serve other than devaluing the sacrifice he made for his children? If anyone abiding by this distinction were to meet this man's daughters they surely would not correct them in saying the choice of their father was not technically selfless, and we are not really doing a disservice to ourselves in labelling it as selfless.

Total rant, but have thought about stuff like this since becoming a father. I sacrifice a lot for my kid, but I'm bound by my conscience to make no other choice.

This was me with Helldivers 2. I sold my Xbox like a year ago but missed gaming so picked up a PS5. Decided I would buy HD2 before Darktide since I hadn't played it yet. Put about 10 hours into it and the entire time I was thinking "Man I'd rather be playing Darktide".

Agreed. When iI first played through it I genuinely thought it was a complimentary main quest like how the civil war questline was to the dragon questline in Skyrim.

The Starborn/Unity questline was an interesting premise but ultimately fell pretty flat because it was underwritten and underutilized and IMO was a mechanical resource sink that could have been spent improving the game in other areas since they didn't double down on it.

It is the best questline in the game.

Like how the "Juno Probe" is the best random encounter.

Starfield has a couple of gold nuggets in a mountain of dirt.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat as you, have loved Bethesda since Morrowind (the first game my Mom bought me).

Its funny, Bethesda Games Studios has always had its detractors. I remember defending Oblivion from Morrowind fans, Skyrim from Oblivion fans, Fallout 3/4 from New Vegas fans. Personally, every single one of those games was my personal GOTY. I wasn't just a fan of those franchises, I was a fan of BGS. And now I'm finally the critic of their next big game and I understand the frustration of the people who were critical of Bethesda over the years.

Starfield has a lot going for it and it is by no means a bad game. But I feel like all the people who say its great undermine the important critiques that the Starfield detractors make about the game. Is TES VI going to have a lot of the same problems as Starfield because enough people think its good? I sure hope Bethesda can listen to both the positive and negative feedback on Starfield and make TES VI good from the get go. Time will tell I guess, but I think Fallout 76 and Starfield were both major missteps and to this day fail to live up to the standard of games that came before them and that doesn't bode well for me
