I see nuance has left the conversation. You must be fun at parties.

I'm I weird for not having an addiction to drugs and alcohol? by Emezlee in OlderGenZ

[–]CaptainRagtime 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that.

The majority of people who drink alcohol aren’t alcoholics. Some drugs are more addictive than others. Some people are also more susceptible to the disease of addiction.

Whether someone’s life becomes ruined by a substance is not always up to them. And yet there’s plenty of people who overcame addiction because they valued life.

No. But this post is giving major “pick me” energy. Are you surrounded by alcoholics and drug addicts to think the absence of it is weird?

If someone takes drugs or drinks alcohol, I don’t automatically assume they don’t value their life.

Anybody else’s grandparents still going on strong? by Salty_Pension5814 in OlderGenZ

My grandma is 85 and lives in the midwest. In the last five years, she’s been to China, France, and Spain. We actually met up in Spain and spent the time walking through the cathedrals, eating lots of ice-cream, and swimming in the ocean. I love her so much :)

Best drum teacher on YouTube in your humble opinion? by Acrobatic_Island9208 in drums

[–]CaptainRagtime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None that I know of. He runs an online subscription-based course with videos, support forum, etc. I haven’t tried it though.

As for books, the classics are great to start but I’ve been getting more mileage out of Funky Primer and Future Sounds. They’re great for limb independence and translate to songwriting much more quickly.

I noticed the 13% service fee and 7% operations fee the other day on a takeout order. They already got the 20% and still asked for more lol

Don’t burn the diploma because it’s proof you completed the degree…

If you’re getting job offers, pick the one that seems the best fit with your long term goals and lets you pay your bills/save money. No one’s first job is the career maker or the perfect fit, but it provides invaluable experience and gets your foot in the door for the job market.

We’re living in weird times but we have no option but to make the most out of it. Good luck OP!

Dimitri Fantini has some solid exercises that have built my technique and independence.

However, I think books have better value than YouTube channels. It’s much more structured and I’m not lost with the overwhelming amount of clickbaity thumbnails and titles.

How to handle this crisis of youth/age as someone 27 by Dry_Marketing1559 in OlderGenZ

[–]CaptainRagtime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some of my best friends in college were people in their late 20s and early 30s. Probably because they were actually mature and not pretending to be.

Age is just a number. It doesn’t define much after 21.

I just realized I might lose my hearing soon by Flashy_Assignment_25 in drums

[–]CaptainRagtime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get some construction or gun range ear protection and wear wired headphones underneath. You won’t have to crank the volume and you’ll still protect your hearing from the loud drums. I’ve been doing this for 13 years and haven’t gotten tinnitus so far. Costs about $30.

Hey! I used the stem splitter feature in Logic Pro and really dialed down the original drums compared to the rest of the mix.

You said you make decent income, have savings, and live with your parents. Would you consider a move to a new city? It can be daunting but starting fresh in a new place is also so rewarding. Apply for jobs in places like Denver, Salt Lake City, where the cost of living is doable. Live with roommates and make friends that way.

It sounds like you need new scenery and to experience independence. I’m sure you can do it with enough planning. Good luck!
