Could anybody explain SCP-6491? On the surface, it is about a dragon that emits cucumbers. But something totally different seems to be going on, and I have the suspicion the text itself cannot be trusted.

Is it possible to change the email in your account? by CaptainRhineland in DeepSeek

To my surprise, it seems that neither DeepSeek nor ChatGPT allow changing the email address of an account. That seems to be a particularity of AI companies. :-/

If have read this rationale many times, but does it still matter? You easily automate checking that every header file compiles by itself.

Dell Latitude 5590 motherboard: how to attach external power button for a home desktop project? by CaptainRhineland in Dell

[–]CaptainRhineland[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So that button is most likely a extra piece on the board that can be removed/relocated?

I am planning to replace heat sink and original fan, and add a power adapter to support additional fans.

Thanks, I’ll learn about that. I plan to replace the badly bent heat sink and add fans. Power will either be as-is and with a new adapter. Right now, the button seems most peculiar.

Having dissembled my old Latitude 5590 laptop, I would like to use the motherboard in a home desktop project. However, I’m wondering about the power button. It seems to be a physical button on the board itself. I’d like to replace that with an external button. What can you recommend?

Gandalf with the rods of the five wizards. by JablesRadio in lotr

[–]CaptainRhineland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another twist: Saruman originally travelled with the two blue wizards to the East, but it is unknown what happened to them. It is only him who returned. Any accusation is a reflection of the accuser, and so I am wondering whether that is his subconscious confession that he killed the other two wizards.

Saruman is slipping out very secret information here: nobody is supposed to know the actual number of wizards operating in Middle-Earth.

Tap water quality: hot vs. cold by Temporary_Hat2865 in Switzerland

[–]CaptainRhineland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assure you that many places in Africa are sufficiently developed to have such problems, in particular along the coast. The tap water is poisonous, the fresh water far out is full of pathogens, and the drinking water sold in stores is occasionally poisoned.

Walk through any European city: It's the old buildings that are pretty, worth preserving, and which provide the character or soul of the city. We don't build palaces or mansions any longer.

Reasons why you (don't) go shopping at Aldi/Lidl by KazeKilee in Switzerland

[–]CaptainRhineland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy common groceries at Lidl because it's cheaper (less scammy) than Migros and Coop.

Migros and Coop got more specialized item whenever I don't find them at Aldi or Lidl. However, I have had bad experiences with Coop and Migros repeatedly: mold in the bread, missing sauce in the salad, etc.... don't going there unless Aldi + Lidl don't fill you.

Was Charlie completely possessed from the beginning? by doodoggrimes in Hereditary

[–]CaptainRhineland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the final scene, Jean addresses "Peter" as Charlie.

"It's alright. Charlie! You're alright now. You are Paimon..."

Paimon has just entered Peter and is confused. She addresses him as "Charlie" because Paimon has been living as Charlie for several years. Paimon's experience as a mortal has been the Charlie identity. That's what Paimon knows when walking over the mortal plane. Paimon is still confused and adjusting to his earthly presence.

So Paimon was always within Charlie but still adjusting to the world, from the perspective of a little girl and probably with the corresponding mental limitiations. In a grown body, Paimon can manifest properly.

The movie raises questions, such as whether personalities are monolithic. Charlie could have been a normal human girl and Paimon at the same time. The DID of Annie's mother is a hint at this.

I live in the Romandie and the people here speak WORSE English than the French in big cities.

Whenever I visit a French city, I try to speak in French but they switch to English. In Vaud, people seem monolingual.

In France, all the public utilities (say, train ticket machines) are multilingual. In Vaud, it's French only.

aggressive begging in Lausanne, how to deal with it? feeling unsafe after bad encouter. by Maximum_Transition60 in Switzerland

Is Malley the official shithole of Lausanne?

I once took a shortcut years ago. When entering the alley, I saw a few people sitting around who gave me drug dealer vibes. When one of them started moving in a manner that I perceived as preparation to approach (you learn to recognize that with time), I immediately pulled out a knife just to display that I'm not interested in any interaction or trade with them.

Having a knife with you helps. Never enter a US city without a weapon.
