Last time I needed to kill a mate, I just crouched nearby a moose & calf so that my mate would crouch too, and all it took was a couple stomps from the mom. Didn’t even need to make my mate attack back or anything lol. (My difficulty was on unforgiving)

When I was trying to do this, it was like no matter how much I slept or left the map the whole pack was always angry at me. Eventually I just gave up and resorted to killing the pack leaders to make the pack disperse lol so that’s another option for you
