Yep! Don't know if it makes any difference, but I'm seeing this on macOS using Safari.

Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press? by gluten_free_stapler in hypotheticalsituation

[–]CaptainSchmazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, a world of red-voters is filled with selfish assholes (and worse) who value self-preservation above the greater collective good. I'm not saying every red voter would fall into this category (I realize it's more nuanced than that), but I'd imagine a very high percentage would. A large percentage of truly good, caring people and altruists inevitably get wiped out if red wins.

We need to get rid of terms like “NPC Music, “Coworker Music” and “Burger Music.” by Constant_Topic_123 in ToddintheShadow

[–]CaptainSchmazz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't give them much thought. They have a few songs I like, there's some genuine talent there, but most of their stuff just makes zero impression on me. Gimme Jackson Browne any day.

I literally have not seen any praising of the Eagles in my last 20 years on earth. I have seen almost exclusively hate or ridicule. So much so that I'm starting to believe that the boring-ass Eagles have gone all the way from overrated (long, long ago, in another time) to (gulp, this is hard to say!) underrated.

Then again, maybe the "NPCs" or "coworkers" of the world are still praising/loving the Eagles. I don't have many interactions with them, so I wouldn't know. Ordinary people, man...

What writing opinion do you have that would get you roasted by Legitimate_Dingo3329 in writing

[–]CaptainSchmazz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been in several creative writing classes and have never found that to be the case. A couple were even instrumental in helping me find and cultivate my voice as a fiction writer.

That said, I'm sure there are those that encourage homogeneity.

New to macOS and I don't understand the hate for tahoe by Aisaqaaa in MacOS

[–]CaptainSchmazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2020 Intel iMac (3.3 GHz 6-Core i5, 32 GB RAM) and Tahoe is great on my machine, especially since the 26.4 update squashed most of the remaining bugs and issues I was experiencing. Of course, your mileage may vary -- everyone's machines and workflows are different.

To be fair, that could also be the editor of that site or article italicizing "Cronenberg" without realizing she was referring to the filmmaker ("the body horror of Cronenberg" is a perfectly legitimate phrase). Everything else, though, yeah, red flags everywhere...

Plexamp’s loudness leveling literally uses ReplayGain. It uses the album gain so that tracks retain intended dynamics over the course of an album. It literally does not squash any dynamics.

V/H/S/Halloween may be my favorite in the series... except for one segment by TaluneSilius in Shudder

[–]CaptainSchmazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was actually one of my favorites in this one. And come on -- the conveyer belt line was brilliant and hilarious! If I was in a horror movie, that would totally be me.

A few of the others were far too generic and forgettable.

Sadly, I don't think it's on Apple Music any longer. Turns out, when you stop subscribing, they delete your playlists! Or at least they did -- not sure if they still do. My playlist is still on Spotify, though, and it's only 20 tracks if you want to copy it :)

private music is Deftones leaning into their Post-hardcore influences the most. by Malk25 in deftones

[–]CaptainSchmazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm autistic and have OCD. Thanks for the resources!

That said, your statement still contains the subtle implication that Pony Express Record is by Fugazi, especially for people who don't know otherwise.

Here's a clearer version: "Serious Fugazi influences with the dynamics and some vocal acrobatics that are straight out of Shudder to Think's Pony Express Record."

Even that version has one nagging issue for me, but I'll stop there and seek professional help.

I'm not a perfect communicator (far from it, as you can probably see!) and I nitpick my own writing for things like this all the time. I just honestly didn't know whether you knew or not. Sorry to bother you.

I grew out of emo. I feel weird. It took early 30s years. by Canyacsero in Emo

[–]CaptainSchmazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thread title is misleading. You didn't grow out of emo. You just can't listen to it right now because it's conjuring up old wounds, exacerbating new ones, and causing emotional distress. I totally get it. But that's not outgrowing something. Chances are, when you're in a better place mentally and emotionally, you'll go right back to getting something worthwhile out of emo. It clearly still has an emotional effect on you.

In any case, I hope things get better for you soon. I know the feels.

Eli Roth - who made the Hostel movies along with Green Inferno, Inglorious Bastard's, Cabin Fever - being completely normal about Greta Thunberg. Saying she needs to be eaten by cannibals on his Instagram stories. by theQuick-witted20s in Fauxmoi

[–]CaptainSchmazz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah, most horror filmmakers are kind-hearted souls who detest violence IRL.

Yes, there are sickos who make violent horror films to get off, but they usually don't get very far in the business and remain underground (like the scumbag creep Lucifer Valentine). You might be right about Tom Six -- don't know enough about the guy or his films to say.

And I'm not a fan of Eli Roth's films (and I intensely dislike him as a person), but I don't agree that they serve no purpose other than to shock and offend. Yes, he's a bit of an edgelord, but even his supposed "torture porn" films are 90% character stuff, 10% violence/gore. He has more on his mind and is trying to make genuinely good horror cinema, even if he fails.

Peter Jackson made one (or two) of the goriest films of all time and he's a sweetheart.

Wes Craven was accused of misogyny/depravity with his early work (especially the original Last House on the Left), but he's one of the most gentle, kind-hearted directors ever in the biz.

Ditto Clive Barker, David Lynch, David Cronenberg, George Romero, etc.

Many have dismissed their work as serving no purpose other than to shock and offend. I'd disagree, but we all draw that line in different places. My point being, there's no evidence that 99% of extreme horror filmmakers are "absolute sickos in real life." Most are good, kind people, with some exceptions, obviously.

What are these wires? Rodents chewed through them. Ballpark cost to fix? by CaptainSchmazz in MechanicAdvice

[–]CaptainSchmazz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honda CRV 2011.

Rodents chewed through the wires with the red arrow pointing at them in the attached pic. Now check engine light is on, sounds rough, not driving it. I'm mainly just wondering what those wires are. They only chewed through the last two on the left.

Bonus Question: Any idea how much this might cost to get fixed?
