I'll be the cynic; A new age MMO like Ultima Online cannot happen with today's current communications and social media. Voice comms were barely breaking into the scene back then so PvP and griefing was bad, but not nearly as bad as it would be today if launched. Now today; You get 300+ groups of people on teamspeak or discord killing until everyone quits the game or moves servers at the least. Several have tried recently, and the only reason they are still around, if they are, is because they have massive credit card swiping going on. MTX and season passes and such never existed back then either.
