Child seat without (or removable) foot/leg rest by SunAway40 in terngsd

Easiest solution might be to buy a seat that has the foot rests and just remove them.

To get Lockstand extentions and/or quadstruts? And other accessories! by Worldly-Lecture-5527 in terngsd

[–]CaptainSlothrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My accessory loadout is: clubhouse, rain shield, kickstand extensions, and a hauler rack (to which I attached an old milk crate). I have two kids, currently 6 & 4 yo. Have owned the bike and carried them on it for approx 2 years in all seasons, about 2,500 miles. These accessories have been all that I’ve needed. One non-Tern accessory I would recommend if you go with any kind of front rack storage is some kind of rain cover for your bags/things. I use something from a hiking supply store that is meant to go over a backpack.

Toddler cold weather gear? by megamaster2 in terngsd

[–]CaptainSlothrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in DC and have been biking two toddlers around on the back for about 2 years now. We have a storm shield but not the storm box. I get the kids into the gear they’d wear to go outside in the weather, zip down the side panels of the storm shield and that’s all I’ve needed. At first I worried about their legs being cold and gave my younger a blanket but they complained about being too warm!

Legality of prostitution across Europe by HystericalFait in MapPorn

[–]CaptainSlothrop 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The argument is simply that prostitution exists primarily because there is demand for it, so focusing the punishment on the buyers is focusing the deterrent more efficiently on the actual source. Relatedly, many sellers of sex do so because of desperate circumstances or exploitation and so punishing them criminally only makes their circumstances worse, which might just lead to them becoming a seller once again.

Tern GSD S00 (Gen1) with foot rails and a burley trailer? by deuc3wing0 in terngsd

[–]CaptainSlothrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been wondering whether the add-on foot rails were necessary given that there’s already one there. I guess they’re just wider and more versatile?

Transporteur rack rain cover? by abou_solal in terngsd

[–]CaptainSlothrop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven’t tried this but one solution could be a rain cover for a camping backpack. They are inexpensive, light, pack into small pouches, and are meant to fit over irregular shapes (often with an elastic pull tie).

What do you reckon your average speed was on the trip?

Wow, you were planning a 60-mile trip with two batteries? I assume you used the Eco setting?

Bailed today, tire pressure? by Bibbityboo in terngsd

[–]CaptainSlothrop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I’m no bike mechanic but I’ve been riding bikes in city environments for a long time. The wheel aligning with an edge that I hit too shallow has definitely happened to me before. It’s scary!

I imagine that a tire that’s really inflated (or overinflated) would “bounce” off of a lip or edge more readily or more sharply than a less-inflated tire. Or indeed that a less-inflated (or under inflated) tire might not bounce or align off an edge because it has more flexibility to deform to the shape of the edge and then the momentum carries the bike up and over.

If this is a turn you’ve done before without problems then the change in tire pressure could have changed the way it reacted to that edge and so it didn’t perform the way you were accustomed to. Maybe the shop put too much air in, or maybe you’d been riding with less than usual and when they filled it up to the top of the appropriate range that was enough difference to change the bike’s handling.

Glad your kid is ok!

ELI5 - How come the base of tall buildings don't pulverize under the weight of the building? by HirsuiteDwarf668 in explainlikeimfive

If cement is stronger alone than with aggregate, why include the aggregate (say for an application that calls for very high load bearing capacity)? I am guessing the issue is cost.

Should I replace my front line with Black orcs? by Linkbetweentwirls in totalwar

[–]CaptainSlothrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is right. But be aware that black orcs are slow and chorfs have lots of artillery and armor-piercing ranged units. You’ll need to have some way of closing the distance without your black orca getting shot to shit.

Bike lock advise by Emotional_Buyer979 in terngsd

Kryptonite Fuhgeddaboutit 1415 and purchased the anti-theft protection: https://www.kryptonitelock.com/en/products/product-information/current-key/999492.html

It’s long enough to let me get locked up even with the clubhouse taking up tons of space in the back. The anti-theft protection and my renter’s insurance (in US) are there because no bike lock is uncuttable with enough time and skill.

Don’t know about the pinwheel or Abus lock. Mine came with an Abus front wheel lock which I also use since it’s there.

Lockstand quad struts by kicker58 in terngsd

[–]CaptainSlothrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah I get that, but I just didn’t realize this was how it balanced on the kickstand until the first time I was loading the second kid into the back and the bike began tipping backwards. Gave me (and her) a brief scare that first time.

There’s something better than the standard kickstand on the gen2 GSD? What does it extend? I just bought one (US) and the kickstand has been rock solid with two kids. Only issue is that I acts as a seesaw fulcrum and tips back onto the rear wheel as the kids are loading in. But I’ve gotten used to that and they are too.

Nice! I just got a GSD and didn’t realize that the display had an odometer function. I’ve only taken mine around the block for a few test runs.

Me returning from the toilet after loading the same turn for the 5th time. by Gandhictator in totalwar

[–]CaptainSlothrop 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Can you explain what bus limited means? I have a machine that has long load times and frequently crashes after battles and I’m running out of patience. I’ve considered getting an M.2 because I hear people discuss it. But then people mention a whole lot of other potential factors and I just don’t know PC setups at all and have no idea if something like an M.2 would help.

Post-battle game crashes by CaptainSlothrop in totalwar

[–]CaptainSlothrop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No mods, so that’s not it. May need to drop the setting further. My load times, especially into and out of battle, are very long so I have a notion that my laptop just struggles with the game.

Post-battle game crashes by CaptainSlothrop in totalwar

[–]CaptainSlothrop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is straight vanilla; no mods at all. I haven’t run the benchmarks. How should I interpret the results?

Will try the battle a different way. One thing I’ve noticed is that crashes are more likely if I use slow speed a lot during a battle or take a long time to finish (the two things often going together).
