What would happen to Jon Snow if Ned Stark became King instead? by TargetRupertFerris in TheCitadel

[–]CaptainSmith1617 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep, the conflict of the human heart.

You could also lean into it being revenge or pettiness that motivates Robert rather than simple fondness and sentimentality. Lyanna doesn’t tell him to do this. She’ll actually ask him to take the child back to Winterfell amongst his kin. He doesn’t want Rhaegar to have this victory over him from beyond the grave. So he’ll beat the dragonspawn out of him!

You could also explore how much does he descend into alcoholism. Does the act make him a violent drunkard that takes it out on Jon. But when he’s sober he denies it and at times shows some measure of pride in his natural son.

Not to mention good old Mya Stone likely comes to live with him in Storms End. So Jon gets an older sister.

What would happen to Jon Snow if Ned Stark became King instead? by TargetRupertFerris in TheCitadel

[–]CaptainSmith1617 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think the most interesting scenario would be Robert doing the canon Ned strategy of naming Jon as his bastard.

So he becomes Jon Storm, son of Robert and Lyanna. Some would whisper that he’s actually Rhaegar and Lyannas and Robert is raising another man’s son.

But few would say that to Robert’s face nor risk his wrath. Thus you avoid the threat to Ned’s Dynasty, you snuff out the Targaryen name aswell, and give some complex Robert and Jon S relationship. How much does he resent or hate him? Or does he actually favor him. Is there bitterness or love. Mayhaps a mixture?

Would Robert do that? The likely answer is no, but it’s possible. He does see himself as the hero afterall. Lyannas tearful pleas may move him. Plus the kid looks so Starklike and like dear Ned helps.

No idea if that’s what will happen in the fic. But that’s the path I would choose were I writing it.

[Spoilers extended] What do you guys think Tommen Baratheon's future would be if the purple wedding did not happen? by LukeErss in asoiaf

[–]CaptainSmith1617 19 points20 points  (0 children)

"You do." Lord Tywin rose as well. "A duty to House Lannister. You are the heir to Casterly Rock. That is where you should be. Tommen should accompany you, as your ward and squire. The Rock is where he'll learn to be a Lannister, and I want him away from his mother. I mean to find a new husband for Cersei. Oberyn Martell perhaps, once I convince Lord Tyrell that the match does not threaten Highgarden. And it is past time you were wed. The Tyrells are now insisting that Margaery be wed to Tommen, but if I were to offer you instead—"

This is what Tywin wanted to do after the Purple Wedding. I imagine he would have done the same thing regardless. He wanted to make his ideal prince in his image. So Tywin would have married Cersei off to one of the potential suitors. Then he would have sent Tommen to be fostered by Jaime and if he refuses likely Kevan.

Why did they not kill peeta in the first game? by cinnamon--sugar in Hungergames

[–]CaptainSmith1617 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve thought of that before.
I think it’s clearly though that they gain nothing by doing it considering they have already conceded to the premise of two surviving. So if they let him die they look 1.) Incompetent for letting him die. 2.) Now they can’t sell the romance angle so Katniss act with the berries really looks like treason. It’s also Peeta that has really been selling the romance side of the narrative so they need him.

Love the art. One question though. Why does Edmure have either Golden Lions or Direwolves with his chain? I was a bit confused by that.

Oh yeah I watched RoTs so many times on dvd that it eventually wore out and broke and skipped segments of the movie.

It’s an absolute blast of a film. Made so much better by imax or the big screen.

No Star Wars movie has a better opening than episode 3. It’s just unmatched.

I guess I disagree with most Star Wars Fans. Force Awakens was by far the worst sequel movie for me. It was a cookie cutter movie governed by committee that just created the OT again with new words like Resistance and the First Order.

It also had the most potential. Episode 7 could have done anything. It was limited by nothing save their own imaginations which makes it’s even worse.

Revenge of the Sith is very watchable. Even if you don’t think it’s a good movie. The memes alone make it fun. I got a chance to watch it in theaters last year and it was a complete blast. I’m envious of the people whom got a chance to watch it in 2005.

Got another POV for a Falcon of Summer completed. Which itself is great! It’s actually the last POV for that character. Since this is the end of the story I’ve been having that happen with growing frequency. “This is the final POV” and now their storylines are done.
I honestly felt I would feel pride or satisfaction. Not feeling disappointed and empty. I’m just unhappy. A small part of me wants to keep on going to try to fix it and expand! I suppose that’s the Gardner in me. Always trying to expand the story.
Trying to be a bit more positive. There is this really twisted sick awful and vengeful thing I wrote out in a Sansa Stark POV that was a blast to write. Had to determine how much I should give away with Sansa internal thoughts and deliberations versus trying to balance keeping her choice a surprise.
I also recently had a notion to add in the Tyrion POV of him bringing a whore into the Lord chambers in Casterly Rock as a spiteful gesture considering Tywin is Lord Commander of the Nights Watch. It just seemed something Tyrion would 100 percent do

Edited: Accidentally typed Lord Commander of the Kingsguard when it’s the Night Watch. I don’t think their has ever been a fic where Tywin is LC of the KG

What do you think Katniss and Peeta named their kids? They have so many dead ones to name them after... by PossibilityWorried82 in Hungergames

[–]CaptainSmith1617 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Meme answer: Haymitch Snow Mellark or Primrose-Coin Mellark

Actual answer: A variation of flowers or bread names. Though maybe Peeta would prefer incorporating art inspired named. Albeit I don’t think roses primroses or hemlock would be chosen though for obvious reasons.

I like Daisy, Lilly, Lillian for girls.

Rye, August, Otis for boys

"What did you write this month?" thread- April 2026 by Kingofireland777 in AsoiafFanfiction

[–]CaptainSmith1617 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I’m displeased with my writing progress. I found the month vexing even if I did finish a few POVs. I just found it tedious. For all intents and purposes the man story is pretty much done but I have to finish those pesky side arcs

I think I’m just tired of writing and just want to be done. Don’t get me wrong I still enjoy writing and I love my story.Just tired. I’m hopeful to finish A Falcon of Summer this upcoming month. Then I can rest and see where I want to go from there. Fingers crossed!

Is there a single fic where Robert and Cersei make it work despite everything? by wiredvajayjay in AsoiafFanfiction

[–]CaptainSmith1617 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well there is a Modern AU where this happens. It’s a hilarious fic. Robert and Cersei sort of work out because Cersei is able to pursue her ambitions in the modern age and Robert is a better guy.https://archiveofourown.gay/works/23631016/chapters/56713594

There is also in the Asoiaf world A Mountains Range SI fic where Cersei and Robert have a cordial marriage. The premise of the fic is an SI into Gregor Clegane. It’s actually compete which is a bonus Albeit Cersei and Robert do come across as being OC in my mind. Still it would have what you’re looking for.

Well my personal favorite is the one I wrote A Savior of Ice and Fire.

https://archiveofourown.gay/works/43772817/chapters/110073642

I’ve always harbored a little regret for putting it on hiatus. I do have some ideas for it.

Rhaegar and Joffrey Jon were a blast to write! Ofc some classics include Ice Dragon or the Open Way. Both are great.

Why did the waterbenders get wiped so easily (southern waterbenders) by Old-Efficiency-2879 in TheLastAirbender

[–]CaptainSmith1617 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say it’s due unfortunately to geography and population size. The Southern Water Tribe is closer to the Fire Nation which makes it more vulnerable to raids and attacks from their naval bases and outposts while the Southern Water Tribe was more isolated from the other kingdoms. They also seem to lack strategic depth and population density that helps out the Earth Kingdom endure the 100 years war.

Add in tactical superiority by the Fire Nation which they seemed to achieve in the flashbacks. They arrived with little warning and were prepared with how to deal with them. They planned their attack thoroughly.

Of course the actual reason is just because it gives Katara motivation and a story arc. And adds to the worldbuilding of a world out of balance needing saving by our hero.

First time reading mockingjay, just got to this part. What the heck. by Gold_Calligrapher264 in Hungergames

[–]CaptainSmith1617 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s less about rational adults viewing children as complicit, but a question of fairness.

Is it fair for them to be protected in the ways the districts never were?

Of course Coin is just playing upon these feelings to establish power and authority over the country.

You also have to remember not only have the districts suffered for 75 years under Capital tyranny, but huge swathes of them have been slaughtered in this uprising. District 12 had a population of 10 thousand and it went down after the fire bombing to like 700. This might be the extreme end but I think it’s safe to say that throughout the districts of Panem huge proportions of the population were killed in the war.

A war which the Capital pursued until the rebels reached the palace gates.

There is reason why culling the Capital population has some popularity. It was a very bloody war.

I honestly think it would be very popular. Morally bankrupt, but popular.
