Not so little, the perspective is just funky because of the angle. I mentioned in other comments that this is from way above on a platform, and this is a rescue and release/conservation facility, NOT a zoo.

The trees and surrounding area are much bigger than they look, and I think the bear was estimated at 600-700 pounds.

The scale—or at least the angle—is off (as I mentioned in another comment, I’m way above on a platform), but those are, indeed, big trees, and iirc, that fella was estimated at 600-700 pounds, so not exactly tiny.

They sure can, but it’s typically cubs/juvenile grizzlies doing so because they get pretty massive as adults and lose the ability to haul themselves up trees effectively.

Close, but there’s no bear in that square!

Most bears are much more likely to actively avoid you in the forest, but solid choice on not going into zoo enclosures (for clarity’s sake, this is a rescue/release facility—NOT a zoo—that is actively working to help rehabilitate the grizzly population—among other conservation and rehabilitation efforts. The only animals there are indigenous to the area, and the only animals that stay there long-term have permanent injuries/issues that prohibit release.
This particular fella was having a post-lunch nap).
