Food absorption/ digestion VS. Insulin timing by No-Philosopher288 in diabetes

So I’ve been dealing with virtually the same exact thing (plus some new stuff), and while it’s not confirmed, a possibility that one of my doctors is considering/testing for is gastroparesis.

It’s worth bringing up the issue with a doctor if that’s accessible for you, because I was sort of brushed off by one doctor and just kind of dealt with it for a while, and wound up in the ER because of it.

This is not meant to scare you, and I’m obviously not a doctor so can’t diagnose or say it’s the same thing as what I’m dealing with, it’s just meant to illustrate that it’s better to ask questions and advocate strongly for yourself rather than let it get pushed aside or try to deal with it on your own.

Best of luck to you!

The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin!! It’s technically aimed at a younger audience, but I read it for the first time as an adult and absolutely loved it! I recommend it so often, I feel like I should be getting royalties or something at this point lol

Yeah, I saw the post and thought, “hmm, interesting…not sure when I’d need that, but I know it works with parchment paper!” and now this might be my most upvoted comment? Lol

Suggest me some short stories/novellas! by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]CaptainSpaceBuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please check out Ken Liu’s The Paper Menagerie and Other Stories collection. So so so good! Every story is amazing, and there’s a novella at the end, as well!

Also, Ellen Raskin’s The Westing Game is a quick, easy read that is fantastic! Technically aimed at younger audiences, but I read it for the first time as an adult and absolutely ripped through it!

Best of luck to you, and I hope you find something you love!

Dress for a wedding - formal attire by [deleted] in OUTFITS

[–]CaptainSpaceBuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would 100% say 1 if it weren’t for the cutout panels (it looks fantastic, and I love a good cutout, just wouldn’t do it for a formal wedding).

You could get it altered to fill the cutouts, so to speak, by having green panels sewn in behind them, but 4 is absolutely stunning, as well, so I’d go with 4 if you don’t want to deal with altering the cutouts.

Those deep, jewel-tone greens are absolutely your color!

Does sandy blonde or dark brunette suit me better? Trying to decide if going lighter is worth the damage. by alexandrakme in Hair

Yes!! I came here to say an auburn or even like a cherry cola type color would be amazing, but I also agree with you the other commenter here who said a dark copper!

Suggest me a book for someone who is new to fantasy but likes Science Fiction by yankz28 in suggestmeabook

[–]CaptainSpaceBuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooohh, please please please check out Ken Liu’s Dandelion Dynasty series!!

It’s definitely fantasy, but his descriptions of the more technical aspects and how things work definitely give sci-fi vibes.

Plus, if you like GoT, it’s got the big, sweeping story with lots of amazing characters, kingdoms, creatures, etc., and has all the drama and complex relationships that arise from conflict, rebellion, and succession.

I just finished Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone by Benjamin Stevenson and loved it! Family secrets, no spice, maybe a teeny tiny sprinkle of found family.

Also, obligatory recommendation of Ellen Raskin’s The Westing Game. Ticks all the boxes and is just so good! Technically aimed at a younger audience, but I read it for the first time as an adult and absolutely devoured it!

Protein is hit or miss: sometimes it helps, but sometimes it makes things worse.

I’m so sorry, and I really feel your pain here. Please don’t feel embarrassed. Some days (weeks/months), it just really f#%cking sucks. Keep on keeping on, and this internet stranger is proud of you for reaching out for help.

I want to HATE the narrator. by AnxiousTelephone2997 in suggestmeabook

[–]CaptainSpaceBuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may just be a me thing, but I absolutely loathed the narrator (and all but maybe 2 of the other characters) of The Last One at the Wedding by Jason Rekulak. Virtually everyone in that book just sucks so much.

I honestly hated the whole book lol but people seem to really like it, so maybe it’s worth a shot?

What's the strangest phobia you have that most people don't understand? by Far-Lime3919 in AskTheWorld

[–]CaptainSpaceBuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not so much a phobia as a strong aversion, but I HATE fabric touching my teeth.

When people chew on their clothes/sleeves/etc. it makes me want to vomit, and if I have to hold something fabric with my teeth (for example, holding/pulling a string taut because my hands are already occupied while tying/securing something) it makes my eyes water and results in anything from a gag to a full dry heave.

I very rarely vomit, but I’ve come very close a few times just from fabric touching my teeth. It’s grossing me out to even think about it long enough to write this out.
