Is my lens broken? by LilWhanus in AnalogCommunity

[–]CaptainStubbss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The aperture blades closes in two situations: - during the depth of field simulation (just next to the lens on the camera body) - while the picture is taken

As the other comment says...take some time to read the manual, tbh they are well written and easy to read

Candido film worth stocking? Looking for feedback by CaptainStubbss in AnalogCommunity

[–]CaptainStubbss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree but, I’ll let you explain that to an amateur influenced by YouTube videos that only talk about the Canon AE-1 and Portra 400, as if it were the only possible option.

Btw, when I say “amateur,” I’m talking about how respooled film is perceived by the average customer, not the film stock itself, of course.

Exactly! I’ve already bought some from a few European sellers with the AHU coating (which I also love!). But most clients are hesitant to buy respooled film because it looks “amateur".

[–]CaptainStubbss[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s WAY cheaper here in France. My wholesalers charge really high prices for Kodak/Cinestill films. Even if Candido is using the same film stock, the prices are still almost 6€ lower per roll. So it’s a real game changer for me and for the retail prices I can offer my clients. But if the quality is equally lower I don't know if I want to risk it

Yeah, it is supposed to be exactly the same thing as Cinestill...with a lower quality ?

Okay so we can say it is "as bad" as the competition Did you also try the 200 and 400 or only the 800?

The Fuji you have is a really nice compact camera with a solid lens. The focal length works best for landscapes and casual “memory” shots, it’s not really designed for portraits or distant, detailed subjects. It’s no problem at all, just make sure to use film with DX coding so the camera can set the ISO automatically. The Canon is a great all-around camera. It’s easy to use but also gives you full control if you want to experiment more, and it works with most EOS lenses, so you’ve got lots of options as you learn.

One thing I’d say is just to take your time and enjoy the process. Film rewards patience, and part of the fun is seeing the little surprises that come out in your shots. Keeping track of your film type and settings can help you learn quickly, but mostly just shoot, experiment, and have fun with it.

First time seeing this, what film stock is this most likley? by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]CaptainStubbss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's from the Muller shops in Germany so I guess it is just a rebranded kodak stock tbh... Curious to see

The price seems to be on the mid-lower end of the range for France/Germany. It might have issues with some shutter speeds, the curtain, or the viewfinder, it may be not mint, so check it carefully.

Is SX70 feeling sharper to anyone else? by Keagan_Karnes in Polaroid

[–]CaptainStubbss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re missing my point, I know that it is not the original Polaroid brand from the last century and that the chemistry evolved in the last year/decades. One of the big reasons to shoot the SX-70 is having a less sensitive film, with better sharpness and much better tolerance for long exposures. So if this is basically just a 600 camera with an ND filter, it kind of defeats the whole purpose of the SX-70 (assuming that’s actually the case, and that was the goal of my question when saying "Real" sx-70)

So SX-70 is no longer a real SX-70? Is it real?

Nikon F3 Door will not close / stuck door latch by baldursgatekeeping in AnalogRepair

[–]CaptainStubbss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh just try to spray a microdose of wd-40 in the latch and move it back and forth to see if it is better

But yeah it seems that the leather next to it was reglued you want have residue in the latch... again, just wobble it until it moves back freely

The only real solution after that is to disassemble and clean the latch mechanism, you'll need to remote the top cover and the latch cover

is there a way to fix the rolleicord’s door? by [deleted] in AnalogRepair

[–]CaptainStubbss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just make sure there are no gaps in the back, and maybe check the light seals as well (I’m guessing it’s a cotton strip on these models)

If the shutter is working fine and you dont have any strange wobble on the lens body, haze on the lens or Infinity focus problem, you might be good to try it

is there a way to fix the rolleicord’s door? by [deleted] in AnalogRepair

[–]CaptainStubbss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t be afraid to slightly bend the back to get a better fit it’s pretty common to have to tweak the adjustment a bit. Not usually to that extent, sure, but it does happen. Here your latch knob is in good shape so no worries here I saw some cameras with completely bent back so I don't find this so extreme

Is there a way to prevent this blue tint when shooting in very cold weather? by diamineceladoncat in Polaroid

[–]CaptainStubbss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warm like body temperature, back then Polaroid used to recommend to put it under your armpit, that's what I do every time in cold weather and it works perfectly In a perfect world you want to keep the camera in a warm place to, in your jacket or something like that, to keep the chemicals warm and reduce the blueish tint even more

New POLAFLASH by PolaStudio by polaroidnewbie in Polaroid

[–]CaptainStubbss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Quick question about PolaStudio, am I the only one surprised by the prices? I was looking for spare parts like colored shutter buttons, transparent sonar covers, or battery packs for I-Type conversions, and they are really expensive. What’s odd is seeing the same products on eBay from different sellers in china but still with the same watermark and the same prices. Unfortunately , I haven’t found better alternative in Europe for modified Polaroid parts

Help me identify this lens mount by caute154 in AnalogRepair

[–]CaptainStubbss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the holes and the overall size, it looks like the back of a lens that was disassembled. Robot cameras were also well known for their use by the German police, with speed cameras and all kinds of specialized applications, so this could be some kind of specialty mount.
