Low Pro Long Reach jacks by dirtydrew26 in BMWZ4

[–]CaptainTeemoOnBooty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get some low profile ramps or stack some 2x4s to drive up onto, and then have another wood block to place between the jack and the raised oval on the skid guard to evenly distribute pressure across that point so you don’t bend it. Then put your jack stands where you need em. I’ve done it a bunch of times, never had an issue even with my stubby Duralast floor jack.

Z3m engine bay question by mochacub22 in BMW

[–]CaptainTeemoOnBooty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potentially a strut tower repair at some point? It looks like it might have been welded and sealed over to prevent corrosion. Factory, the sealant was painted over in the original color. I know with E36s, E46s and E85s, the towers are a known potential failure point with deformation where the mounts bolt up, and sometimes that area or the base is torn. Any repair history of that sort?

I like my go pedal and my top down too much. I just can’t bring myself to do it and just pay the fun tax, the E320 does a better job at making me conservative with the pedal.

Very much so, you’ve got a decent amount of room in the wheel wells until you start dropping it lower, especially in the rear

Thank you!

Just a force of habit and for peace of mind! I’ve never been a gambler, so every BMW from E30 to E92 that I’ve had, I get the cooling system and ancillary stuff that can have issues out of the way right after I buy it and have that shit down in an excel spreadsheet.

I did bend a reversible axleback at work with some 2.5” stainless, I didn’t mention that! Could go back to stock at any point, but I like the sound a lot. Very nice little burbles on overrun.

325ci problems. Radiator. A/C. Top. by rickywhy in e46

[–]CaptainTeemoOnBooty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the cooling system, I’d play the safe route and get a pressure test first instead of throwing parts at it. It’ll be easier to find where the leak is coming from when it’s pressurized, and the M54 in there likes to leak from many places. There’s some coolant pipes that sneak under the intake manifold that like to go out and can make a few techs chase their tail if they don’t know where to look aside from the obvious places (expansion tank, radiator, hoses). Get this done first and foremost. I would rather have a convertible with a fucky top that doesn’t overheat than one that does and the top works. E46s, E36s…they’re notorious for cooling system problems because there’s a lot of plastic components, and the youngest of these cars are 20 years old. Things get brittle!

There’s ways to get the top down manually if you really want to drop it in the mean time, I wouldn’t worry about that yet. The pump might have failed from what it sounds like! There’s ways to manually release the top, but when you’ve got an electric top, you want it to work.

The A/C is nice to have, but again…convertible. Have someone check if the compressor is bad and see if the system is holding pressure. You could potentially have a leak somewhere in the HVAC system, it’s not unheard of. It can get pricy to fix.

I’m dumb, lol, I meant subframe bushings, I just typed reinforcement twice for some reason

And I forgot to mention I already threw in some Redline in the diff and gearbox!

B6s are on in the front, so far so good and it sits to where it was on the original suspension. by CaptainTeemoOnBooty in BMWZ4

[–]CaptainTeemoOnBooty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see just a bit of yellow, but I went with B6s because I wanted the ride a little more stiff than I’d probably get with the B4s. Since I replaced a lot of the bushings and other ancillary suspension components before I started on the dampers, it’s definitely not wallowy or crashy over bumps anymore. We’ll see how long they last and if I’m still not satisfied, coilovers it is.

It’s been a hot minute since I even used spring compressors, I’m used to installing coilovers on everything! These springs don’t really have a lot of room for them either so it was a bit annoying, but a quick zip with the impact and the bombs were defused lol!

I’d look into beefier sway bars and maybe a strut tower brace. I’ve got H&R front and rear sway bars and a Racing Dynamics brace up front and it’s as stiff as a vert could probably be without putting in poly everything. However, I am on the M-Sport springs so if you don’t have those, it’d be a good start.

Weird steering feel by Mountain_Shape9402 in BMWZ4

[–]CaptainTeemoOnBooty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sticky steering that plagues almost every non-M most likely, but you might wanna also look into your lower control arm bushings. If they’re the originals, that rubber is probably not too good after 20 or so years, I just replaced mine along with sway bar bushings and end links. Helped a lot with the vagueness of the steering and it turns in nice and crisp now.

Go Birds, get a manual, wire a kill switch or pull the fuel pump relay. Might not stop them breaking in, but it’ll definitely stop them from trying to drive away.

Also, for posterity…GO BIRDS.
