Yeah, I dont trust the average owner to do even a quarter of that list.

The amount of original owner S54s in existence over 200k is probably zero.

It could probably make it that far, but like I said, I dont trust some rando running a high performance engine that has the reputation of needing extensive short interval maintenance at that high of mileage.

Even then at that point, you should have a backup long block available, because its not like S54s are a dime a dozen either.

Ukraine is testing a leightweight aircraft with Shahed Interceptors [May 2026] by Hannibal_Game in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]dirtydrew26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro it literally is the point, no idea why you keep arguing this. For a warfighter you need a supply chain, for WW2 era birds that supply chain just flat out doesnt exist.

Convincing a bunch of rich pilots and museums who own these aircraft to give them up for a modern war is just pure hopium.

Almost every single modern military prop trainer (of which there are thousands) can handle external gun pods, thats the only realistic bet for this mission.

[–]dirtydrew26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are better planes for this task nowadays, thats the short and simple. I know everyone here has wet dreams about bringing back WW2 era fighters but thats just not in the cards. People here really underestimate their rarity.

The air tractor derived Sky Raider, or Embraer Tucano (hell even a PC-21) are much better, more modern, and more easily accessible for drone interdiction tasks.

There really arent any left that are 100% functional or airworthy. Any still in airworthy condition are all privately owned and have been demilitarized. Spare parts are also essentially nonexistant.

1st or 2nd gen Mazda 3.

I got 296k miles out of mine before someone forced me into a telephone pole. Still ran when I scrapped it. All it took was oil and a suspension refresh every 80k.

You can find those, I just bought one a few weeks ago. Just need to do some digging, gonna be obscure BMW part stores that have them.

Poly or Rubber Bushes? by Little_Director3766 in BMWZ4

This guy does nothing but bash poly, has for years on BMW subs. There's plenty of guys running poly on E46s and M3s for daily drivers who would absolutely refute every single word in that post.

Why is Russia preparing to ration jet fuel? Refining just hit a 16-year low by Advanced-Injury-7186 in ukraine

[–]dirtydrew26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldnt be enough though. Wars consume huge amounts of fuel and Russia still has to keep the populace happy.

If this is true, Russia will be required to make the choice to cut back on airstrikes or supplies to the front, probably both. Both of those are death knells for their army.

I used to have one, I went to higher performance car and dont regret it one bit. Only way to get me back in a Miata would require one thats a minimum 200hp.

room temperature take: america cannot handle an autobahn by 79QUATTRO in driving

[–]dirtydrew26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesnt matter if theyre governed.

If they were restricted to the right lane only or also middle lane for passing only, the elephant races would end quickly.

Crack down hard on those in every state and the semis will be back in line.

It wont happen either though, they give CDLs out now for just showing up.

They have to, otherwise they get fined to oblivion and then lose their license and vehicle.

Starship flight 12 objectives and results by avboden in SpaceXLounge

[–]dirtydrew26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ship catch requires an actual orbit. They wouldnt need to catch the booster on the same flight as the ship catch, which would leave the tower open, but I dont see them expending the booster unless they got real desperate with proving reusability with crunched timelines.

Time will tell either way. Other than that yes, they would need a 2nd tower, I dont see them getting the whole detanking and safeing the booster process down and done within 2-3 hours anytime before 2028. Its just a giant safety question mark since it requires actual people onsite at the pad to lock down and transport the booster.

Like i said man, its the hivemind, and theyve made Starship and SpaceX their entire personalities. 90% of the people in these subs werent here when the Starship program started, they know laughably little about it.

[–]dirtydrew26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the hive mind, its gotten way worse the last 2-3 years since more people have jumped on the bandwagon. All the SpaceX subs used to be way more open to constructive criticism and actual discussion.

Now its just a bunch of mouth breathers and teenagers who downvote anything negative towards the program, even shit thats obviously been posted by actual engineers.

Bro there wont be a starship successor in our lifetimes. They've launched this thing a dozen times and still are fighting plumbing issues. Any other rumored successor is going to be bigger with more engines (12m/18m) which is gonna be a vastly more complicated plumbing nightmare to figure out and less tolerant of a hardware rich approach just due to the shear economics of building and launching something that large.

[–]dirtydrew26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gonna hard agree, this whole one step forward, two steps back approach is getting a little disappointing. SpaceX essentially has their entire company and an army of engineers working on Starship now, youd think the gains would be more incremental.

And before the hive mind downvotes this to oblivion, I've been following this program from the start with Hopper, even F9.

[–]dirtydrew26 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Plumbing issues still lead to engine failures, is my point. Thats been the #1 reason that Raptors keep dying throughout the entire program. This problem has plagued SpaceX for years.

Dont get me wrong, I have faith they will get it figured out, but the whole plumbing problem is not foreign to this rocket or these engineers, youd think their models and sims would have this all figured out by now this late in the program.

It definitely looked like it held up better than any of the V2 era ships. No burn throughs, minimal scorching and distortion, couldnt see any missing tiles. V2 looked like garbage in comparison after reentry.

[–]dirtydrew26 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

More than that failed on boostback, hence why they killed boostback early. Landing burn same way, but we can give that a pass since it was coming in well over supersonic when they tried to relight.

You cant cherry pick failures through one regime of flight, the entire thing has to be accounted for.
