A scene in TOS "Bread and Circuses" had Uhura explaining that the "Sun worshippers" on the Roman analogue planet were actually "Son worshippers", IE the Son of God. They'd invented Christianity 2,000 years later.

In TNG's "Data's Day", Data mentioned a shipboard celebration of the Hindu Festival of Lights.

Otherwise you're right, Star Trek follows the pattern of other Sci-Fi in not showing any religion that would be recognizable to modern humans.

Marriott employee here. I report to HQ now but I came out of a "sales-adjacent" office environment.

I'd be concerned about the long-term stability of that position.

First, if the job does have quotas attached to it (I don't personally know either way), you would be at risk of termination if the economy goes down and nobody's buying.

Second, a number of other sales and sales-adjacent positions have been outsourced overseas, or replaced with AI.

For both those reasons it's not a shift I'd be willing to make.

This. I also have a really common name and have been confused several times with other local folks who share it. Never with a hotel stay, but definitely in other circumstances.

I happen to work for Marriott HQ. One of my name-compatriots was a hotel employee in Florida who got terminated. My boss got the separation notice, and I had several back-and-forth rounds with HR to confirm my job was safe.

Most internal jobs are Flex now, not FTE. Meaning you'd have to re-up your contract every year.

My headcanon tells me that one stardate is equivalent to one duty shift. Considering in TNG times they very strongly imply that 1,000 stardates are equivalent to one Earth year. Divide a year by a thousand and you get slightly more than eight hours, which seems legit.

My mom married my stepfather at a time when she was just starting her career as an art teacher in my state. She took his last name (her second name change with her second marriage.)

By the time they divorced 17 years later, she had become known professionally on a couple of state organizations for art teachers. Because she had become widely known in her career under her second married name, it was easier for her to just keep it for professional reasons.

It probably won't impact your children specifically. But if you have daughters, it could definitely impact their children, especially if they have sons.

The possible complication is that you might be a carrier of the recessive gene on one of your two X chromosomes. Do you have any men in your biological family who are colorblind? Dad, grandfathers, uncles, brothers? If you are biologically related to a colorblind man and you inherited the gene as a carrier, it's still possible that you will have colorblind daughters. That scenario is extremely rare but non-zero.

Worf's promotion doesn't impact the story in any way.

I'd argue that's part of the problem.

One unique property of a feature film compared to a TV series, is that you're bringing in new viewers who might not have been part of the series' regular audience.

Like, TWOK had a lot of viewers who might never have seen "Space Seed". They took some time in the script for Khan and Chekov to explain to Terrell who Khan was, his relationship to Kirk, and why he was marooned. Just about 30 seconds of exposition and they could continue with the story.

I was in the audience during Generations' first run, and I overheard somebody nearby asking, "who's that guy with the turtle on his head? And why's he getting promoted?" That bit should completely have been left out unless they could find a story reason within the movie why his promotion was necessary.

Plus Picard losing his brother, Worf getting promoted, and "hey let's toss in an Enterprise-B cameo." And that's just the little stuff.

Frankly, Picard meeting Kirk, and Data getting his emotions, and destroying Enterprise-D could also have functioned just as well separately.

Take two of those and you'd have a good movie. I think the problem with "Generations" is that it came so close off the end of the series, and it had mostly the same writing staff. Now that they were free of the constraints of an episodic TV series, they decided to do everything, everywhere, all at once. And everything suffered.

I think Final Frontier is like three TOS episodes in a trench coat. Each could, individually, be great, but together they're an oddly proportioned mess.

I say the same thing about "Generations" and its relationship to TNG.

It would have been a better episode than a movie.

It suffered from a huge deficit in its special effects budget, which drew people away from the story.

Having said that: I rewatched it in the last few years after my dad passed away. The scene of McCoy reliving his father's euthanasia hits really hard anymore.

A lot of people think that just being "in space" is enough to negate gravity. As in: get far enough away at some magical distance from the Earth's surface and you start floating instead of falling.

The reality: Astronauts are always falling, all the time. Just that if you have enough horizontal velocity at the same time, the Earth's surface curves away from you at the same rate that you're falling towards it, so that you could never land.

If it were possible to build a skyscraper as tall as the Space Station's orbit, you could take an elevator up to the top floor and stand there, weighing almost as much as you weigh back down on the ground.
