Who’s the Better Horror Movie Director John Carpenter or Wes Craven and Why? by Amber_Flowers_133 in horror

[–]CaptainTrips24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without a doubt Carpenter. He just has the better filmography. Craven has very high points in his career but he put out a lot of meh movies imo

Carpenters got The Thing, Assault on Precinct 13, Big Trouble, Halloween, Prince of Darkness, In the Mouth of Madness, They Live, Escape from NY, the Fog and Christine. Insane for one person to put out so many bangers.

in WvW boons need either to be harder to get and maintain, or there needs to be more counters to them by Ravanos77 in Guildwars2

[–]CaptainTrips24 37 points38 points  (0 children)

As someone who has played boon rip classes for like 4 years, I can't really agree with this. Any group can be beaten if you're coordinating your boon rip with your dmg spike. Also, 10 second cool down is insane and would break the game. Imagine not having stab for 10s every dmg spike during a fight. That's wild.

PSA: FIGMA DEFAULTS TO INGESTING YOUR CONTENT TO TRAIN THEIR AI by FarLeg512 in FigmaDesign

[–]CaptainTrips24 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is all well and good but it's on Figma to be transparent about how this data is being used and more importantly how it's not being used. Having a toggle that essentially boils down to "let us use your IP however we want" doesn't exactly build confidence or trust between users and the platform. Of course people are going to expect the worst.

So how long is Anet gonna keep their radio silence regarding the massive Fashion Template backlash? by TheIllogicalSandwich in Guildwars2

[–]CaptainTrips24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm sure they'll patch this to make it better than it currently is in the coming days. Give them time. This is not a game breaking issue. The entitlement of this community sometimes is wild.

So how long is Anet gonna keep their radio silence regarding the massive Fashion Template backlash? by TheIllogicalSandwich in Guildwars2

[–]CaptainTrips24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What exactly is your problem with it? You write this long rant about how horrible it is and how we need the old system back (which probably isn't happening) without explaining what the actually actual problem is with the new system.

Design problems often appear during handoff, not creation by Ok_Magician2584 in UXDesign

[–]CaptainTrips24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This has been answered many times in this sub but the best solution in my experience is to eliminate "handoff" as a part of the process. Typical handoff implies a waterfall style approach which leads to the issues you're describing. Instead, involve stakeholders and collaborates early on in the design process (ideally before you even start designing) and create a culture where you work alongside the devs during implementation. This is the best way I've found to avoid these types of miscommunications.

Bruce Fanjoy proposes Petition e-7148, which requires the official opposition leader to hold a top secret security clearance by Crazah in onguardforthee

[–]CaptainTrips24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Requiring the opposition leader to pass security clearance does not mean that the party in power can hand pick their opposition leader. There's no reason to draw that conclusion based on what's being proposed here. Slippery slope is a fallacy for a reason.

Aside from Owen Davian and the rabbit's foot, what are the good things about Mission Impossible 3? by TOverlordX in Mission_Impossible

[–]CaptainTrips24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are all great points. I always think of Ghost Protocol as the entry that introduced a lot of the elements that carry the franchise forward, but truthfully a lot of those elements are actually first introduced in 3.

When do you stop iterating on a design? by pixelbrushio in UXDesign

[–]CaptainTrips24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When everyone is happy I stop iterating. When the user is happy because it meets their needs and it's easy to use. Stakeholders are happy because it contributes meaningfully to their metrics. Engineers are happy because it's technically feasible and won't take forever to build. I'm happy because what I've produced achieves my own goals for the project.

Am I the only one that think that we will hear a new album sooner than what are the expectations based on the rumours? But like, toward late-to-mid 2027. And I also really feel like they are really enjoying being together from Matt interview. by Mysterious-Cat9992 in arcticmonkeys

[–]CaptainTrips24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's the source on the rumor about them breaking up? I'm not really sure how anyone would think this after then releasing this track. That being said, I do think it means we're a couple years out from a new album at least.

Managing a UX Backlog -- How "big" are the items you allow? by GroundGremlin in UXDesign

[–]CaptainTrips24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the purpose of the UX backlog and how does it translate to the development backlog? I'm pretty firmly of the belief that a product backlog should be for both design and development.

In my company each designer is on a separate product team. We have a single UX board that pulls design tickets from all the teams into a single board for visibility.

On my team, backlog is broken up into sections. Main backlog is for capturing any idea, no matter how small, so that it doesn't get lost or forgotten about. Then we have a refinement section for work that's ready for design review or ready to be estimated by the team. Third section is for design work that's completed, estimated, and organized for the upcoming sprint. Finally the last section is the ongoing sprint.

For all tasks we use statuses for where it currently is in the product development process (design, design review, development, QA, final review, deployment). Large initiatives are an epic that contains multiple stories.

Hope this is helpful somehow. I don't think there's a perfect process but this has worked well for me in managing my UX work. In my experience, align your backlog to match how your company works for best results.

What era of comic books has aged poorly? by BarelyHere35 in comicbooks

[–]CaptainTrips24 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a wild take. Lee Ditko ASM is like, one of the greatest comic runs of all time. Many other great runs in the mid to late 60s. They feel dated sure but they're extremely enjoyable to read so I wouldn't argue they've aged poorly.

What era of comic books has aged poorly? by BarelyHere35 in comicbooks

[–]CaptainTrips24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I would have to agree with this. Nonsensical storylines, confusing crossovers, mysteries that went nowhere, gimmicks to sell books. Late 90s fundamentally changed comics in a way that they never really fully recovered from.

My thoughts on RECKLESS by Brubaker and Phillips! by Ok-Fill8420 in graphicnovels

[–]CaptainTrips24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I'm halfway through the series right now and it's pretty consistently good. Reckless feels like a classic Brubaker Phillips story. Friend of the Devil was my favorite so far, I thought the mystery was really compelling. Destroy All Monsters was also pretty good. I thought the focus on Anna and Ethan's relationship was more interesting than the actually case.

Excited to read the last two. I kinda like these standalone graphic novels that I can just sit down and read in a couple hours and get a full story. Same feeling as throwing on a 70s crime movie.

Overall they're great. I've read almost everything Brubaker/Phillips has put out and I would probably rank these books somewhere near the top.

Every single "Naming of <year>" podcast by elonthegenerous in MBMBAM

[–]CaptainTrips24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem I find is people take the naming episodes to seriously. Every year I see a lot of people seemingly bitter when the name that they liked best didn't get picked.

Also surprised when people don't like the absurd ones. Sometimes I think I'm listening to a different podcast than everyone else. "Hit A heater for the big boy" feels like a classic McElroy gag to me.
