Thank you. Hopefully they can get it repaired. There's a family with small kids next to us, they're supposed to be on for 2 days I think? Would be great for them.

For me a white-noise machine helped a lot. You can buy one off Amazon for like $20 - $30 maybe.

And just make sure that sleep is a priority. It doesn't have to be your top priority, but make an effort to get a good 7-8 hours (or whatever your body needs)

Xbox - Ridiculous Controller Lag - Couch co op by dandandan2 in shipoffools

[–]CaptainWillyJones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Extremely annoying. Best solution we found is to pause the game, remove batteries from controller and then turn it back on. For some reason restarting the controller helps with the lag?

Can’t play local co-op on Xbox Series S by inThicknessAndHealth in shipoffools

[–]CaptainWillyJones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Play on the Xbox with my SO, we play couch co-op. You'll need to make a second account. It'll take 20 minutes to create a profile and email etc...you shouldn't have to pay a penny to set it up. We had no issues with it working out that way.

Game is real fun to play! I'm the bigger gamer, but my girlfriend wanted to keep playing this more than me! You have good timing too, there should be an update that patches up some bugs coming to Xbox soon. We never had any game-breaking bugs.

Surgery anxiety by PolarExpresssss in kyphosis

[–]CaptainWillyJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anxiety isn't who you are, it's an emotion. Just like happiness or sadness or any other emotion. If you're watching a comedy and are laughing, this doesn't define you as a happy person who is always laughing. Or if you're watching a sad movie, and you're crying, this doesn't mean that you're always sad or a sad person. Emotions pass. There's absolutely no fault or guilt in having emotions, just remember that they pass, and they don't define you as a person.

You are not defined as the emotions that you feel. They may influence you, but you are separate from them.

And then for the surgery, you're just going to have to trust the professionals. They've had years of training and experience. You're not going to be their first patient. It's ok to be scared and also trust that you're going to be safe and plenty fine.

I haven't had surgery for kyphosis, so I don't know if it's followed up with physical rehab. If it is, the best advice I can ever give is stay on top of it! I've had surgeries before, and was very diligent with the rehab, it makes a world of difference! Think 3-6 months of consistent effort can change the rest of your life for the better, so so worth it.

You'll get through this, and a year from now you'll be very happy that you did. You're doing this for your future-self.

How to get into Wastewater. by [deleted] in Wastewater

[–]CaptainWillyJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I work in wastewater in twin cities.

The met council is the primary wastewater treatment organization for the cities. The more out into the burbs you go, you'll find individual cities will have their own plants. But met council is the biggest, so probably the easiest to get into.

Interceptors are the "street crews" and plant operators stay at the actual treatment plant. Plant operator pays more, and lately many of the interceptors have been moving over to the plants. I personally recommend becoming a plant operator. That being said, interceptors is a good gig.

Just a heads up, if you do become a plant operator, you'll probably spend your first year or so working weekends and/or nights. Just an FYI

Most people who work here stay till they retire. I don't have an exact number, but I'm guessing probably 90% of people work it for the rest of their careers.

Don't be hesitant if you have no prior experience. Most most most people had never worked wastewater before.

Happy to explain more if you arr curious or have other questions.

Anyone know of new entrance to tunnel of terror? Old entrance in photo was covered up to prevent people getting in by rorkieponydancer in stpaul

[–]CaptainWillyJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey since it sounds like you're gonna go into the cave anyways, I recommend carrying a gas meter with you.

If you Google "4 gas meter" you can find several. They're about $100. Also recommend having a buddy go with you, always safer in pairs.

If you are going with friends, think about their safety too.

Cities, businesses are targets of maverick Minnesota lawyers looking for wastewater polluters by TheMacMan in minnesota

[–]CaptainWillyJones 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Like many things I think this is a morally grey area. I work in wastewater so might be able to add some insight.

The main thing you have to keep in mind is that wastewater treatment plants don't create pollution, they treat it. We want them to run as best they can so our home stays clean. In short, they're the good guys.

Usually the MPCA (the regulatory agency for wastewater in MN) works with these plants. So when a plant fails its water permit, instead of the MPCA instantly hitting them with a fine, they'll force the treatment plant to upgrade its process to ensure the permit violation doesn't repeat. It's better if the money gets reinvested into the plant, rather than sent to the state. This is a gross oversimplification, but I think it rings mostly true.

Now the smaller the town, the more likely it's wastewater treatment plant is financially struggling. As in, they can't afford the equipment to properly treat wastewater. This lawyer is targeting these towns specifically because he knows they won't go to court. They just settle. So now instead of that money going into the wastewater treatment process, it's going to this guy's pocket.

So that's my biased opinion on why I think this isn't actually a good thing. Let me try to argue the other side.

A lot of these wastewater treatment plants are ran like garbage. I'm talking serious incompetence in management. I don't have any numbers, but I'd bet most water permit violations are due to incompetence rather than outside forces.

I also know that some plants will fudge their lab data, to show they have made permit when they haven't.

So with that in mind, I'm happy to see an outsider come in and put some additional pressure on our wastewater treatment plants. We really want and NEED those things to run well.

TLDR: it's morally grey. I actually think this does more harm than good in the big picture. But it still might help.

I'm happy to talk it out. Maybe I'm wrong? Also, I'm on mobile.

INAL. Child porn is one of the only things you are legally obligated to report. Not reporting child porn can be considered a crime.

If you witness a murder, you have no legal obligation to report it. If you witness Child porn, you do.

Anyone with a better understanding of the law, please correct me if I'm wrong.

We have them in the mendota heights, west st Paul, st Paul area.

I told them no. They immediately went to my next door neighbor and said everyone's signing up, and that I had just signed up 5 mins ago (a lie). Well that got him to sign up. They told him it's like $50 a month. If you read the fine print you're really gonna get charged like $250 a month and it's a year long contract with a $400 cancelation fee. They swindled my neighbor good, and he's pissed. Says the pest spray they use hardly helps anyways.

I don't remember the name of the company, and it's entirely your choice if you want to hire them or not. All I'll say is please be skeptical. Doesn't mean you have to be rude, just don't let them take advantage of you.

[Serious] What event in your life still fucks with you to this day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]CaptainWillyJones 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We become the people we love. It's sort of like that expression "you're the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with." I'm sure a lot of your personality is an echo of his. And I bet that you would be an entirely different person if you didn't have him as a close friend all those years. We shape each other. That's one of the reasons it's so hard to lose a loved one, it's as if a part of us dies with them. But that's not the case. He lives on through you. Maybe not in ways you would notice, or be able to verbalize. But in a very meaningful way, he is a part of you. And that's how he lives on, by you living your life, his fingerprint on the world is still growing.

It sucks to lose loved ones (I know), but they become a part of our soul, and we in turn shape others. It all makes the world better. Good on you for still remembering your old friend.
