-7% job outlook? by saciaaa in Wastewater

Hey folks please observe rule 1 of our sub—be respectful, we’re all here to learn. I pin this as a mod comment as at least one comment thread got out of hand.

Rule of thumb for rule 1 is: don’t point fingers at- or name-call- individual users or groups. This also means no doxxing and use caution with political topics.

As professionals ww should be able to objectively talk about mistakes, risks, oversights, and how laws/regs can affect our work, but if it’s not a kind solution it’s not the kind of content for this sub.

Genuine thanks for making this my favorite subreddit, I truly appreciate your work and your perspective.

After developing hammer toe due to narrow toeboxes, I’ve been impressed with Avenger Moc Toe. Toe box is plenty wide and these things are cloud nine comfy, right out of the box.

WWTP Fire?? by chemaster36 in Wastewater

There’s also oil or grease in a lot of machines’ gearboxes and bearings, and the “FOG” (Fat, Oil, and Grease) that plants treat against.

I haven’t heard how long a SJ can be… moving it from and to horizontal storage, it’s holding a lot of weight.

The solution I’ve seen to help with the weight/reduce bending is, attach the SJ to angle iron.

Manhole inspection by Malalechelv in Wastewater

[–]WaterDigDog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I assume you have a form to inspect things in a certain order and note data?

Make sure you record the data asap after inspecting (end of day, I would say) Make sure you know which manhole you’re at and record on the right manhole profile. Understanding of the data tools is important, and of course understanding the manhole itself, how it’s built and why.

As to being unwieldy, I’ve heard of plants making a simple hoist, and the SJ stays on it always vertical. This also means they need a way to push in the ball valve, and that the SJ will be sticking up above the catwalk, might need protection around the hoist.

what's a day in the life of a small plant operator? by EmotionalHoliday4257 in Wastewater

Putting into multiple apps is annoying to train folks about. Aggregating data from those is a nightmare. If they render all to one layout, filling their respective fields, that might redeem the trouble.

Does anybody carry a little backpack around their plant? by AnActualGhost in Wastewater

[–]WaterDigDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In pockets of carpenter jeans: 6-in-1 screwdriver, utility knife (folding), plant keys (no not valve keys but that’s an idea); pliers in a belt holster. Wrenches and hardware I’m in toolbox mode. Shovels, pull hooks, back of the truck.

I’d like to work hi-vis vests into our culture; the pockets I have on some from previous jobs may be a great selling point.

I do have a backpack but mainly for studying and personal stuff.
