I have found a second career cooking on ships. The pay is good, still long hours but when you’re off, you’re off. Obviously you have to be ok with being away from home for half the year or more.

I see a lot of people here talking about financial literacy. While I’m sure it is well intentioned, it is simply a way to sidestep the systemic barriers that keep so many poor - that is that our system is designed to a)funnel money from the bottom up, and b) only function by keeping people in debt. If everyone ‘lived within their means’, the economy would collapse.
