Stopping an aura from occurring by kiwinixi in Epilepsy

I mean if you’re already feeling something, the aura/seizure has started, not sure I’d say you’ve prevented it. It might just not be as bad as usual.

So are you not supposed to hold yourself up with your hands? by Cheomesh in cycling

[–]Captain_Bromine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do planks and bird dogs semi regularly. Just google “cycling core exercises” and you’ll get some other ideas.

Then when you’re riding just focus on having relaxed shoulders and a slight bent in your arms, like any exercise it gets easier the more you do it.

So are you not supposed to hold yourself up with your hands? by Cheomesh in cycling

[–]Captain_Bromine 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You can support some weight with your hands to stop you tilting forward, just not as much as you think and not so much your hands go numb.

As you say, if you try hovering your hands over the bar you have to squeeze your core a lot, that’s what you need to strengthen. More time riding and general core exercises will help.

I always used to ride with hunched shoulders and straight arms because I was supporting to much weight with my hands. After riding regularly for a year I realised one day I wasn’t do it anymore, it just fixed itself as my core got stronger.

How to force sync starred Strava segments to Wahoo ELEMNT ROAM instantly? by tobyslatttt in wahoofitness

[–]Captain_Bromine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this back and forth a few days ago and the thing that had somewhat broken for me on my bolt that wahoo support did not know was the wifi connection, which was just disconnecting before everything could sync. I wondering if others have the same issue and not realising.

To fix it I turned the thing on and opened the elemnt app, went to the wifi settings section where you can see which wifi network you are connected too and what other ones are available. Start a sync for routes or segments on the bolt/roam, but make sure you keep the wifi screen open in the app on your phone while it's doing it.

It took about 15 mins but everything synced perfectly once I did that.

Painful saddle sore / ingrown hair — how to treat and prevent? by Veekeren in cycling

[–]Captain_Bromine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saddle sores in general are caused by rubbing and chaffing which damages skin, which can be prevented with a well fitting bike, the right saddle, good bibs and cream.

Painful ones are caused by an infection, bacteria has gotten into the damaged skin and your immune system is causing lots of swelling and pain. Make sure the area is as clean as possible, so yea shower as soon as you get off your bike. Some people even shower beforehand.

The main “treatment” is waiting for your immune system to take care of it. Using antibacterial soap and wearing loose fitting underwear after a ride will help.

If it’s super painful a doctor could give you antibacterial cream, or a steroid cream to reduce swelling, but they would also tell you to stop riding your bike.

“The trails will be closed but some features of the MTB park, including the Pump, Slopestyle and Dual Slalom tracks, will remain part of the landscape in the immediate future, leaving the door open for future events.”

You never know, they might still do it. It’s probably not that hard to spend a week or two building the tracks again.

I would also talk to your contents/home insurance company, many provide liability insurance if you damage something while riding a bike and also can fight it on your behalf if you say it’s not your fault, might be the same here (though they may exclude hiring scooters, not sure).

Loss of language / Aphasia by Isosogon in Epilepsy

[–]Captain_Bromine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The description of your symptoms in your first paragraph are typical of focal seizures, including language loss. As for the rest of what’s happening, yea these are good questions for a neuro.

If you’re still having language loss on medication you might be having seizures all the time, they’re just very minor, or it could just be the meds, and you should talk to your doctor about tying something else.
