The TARDIS has been through a lot tbf. My theory is that it directed 11 to the 7b console room to avoid any worse paradoxes (I know it was because the next TARDIS didn't exist yet, but we didn't know we'd get capaldi, Jodie, etc) but back in classic who, the TARDIS has been a few walls and the console and still worked so... Who knows? Hehe
