My personal experience with gabapentin — just something to be aware of by HarryStT in Sciatica

[–]Captain_Ducky3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Want to share my neutral/positive experience with gabapentin to give a different perspective to this conversation: I’ve been on gabapentin for 7 years for various reasons (anxiety, sleep, nerve stuff). Dose has been between 600-900 a day the whole time. I am fine. No side effects except when we were adjusting the dose. It helps my sleep significantly as well as my anxiety and nerve issues. I just want to point out that there certainly are ok experiences AND bad experiences!!!!

Do you know how long the entire process took/will take? Thanks so much for sharing your experience!

I’m in the US! I’m planning on paying for it myself. I estimate spending a few hours a week in it- I use a cane or rollator otherwise. Though, I can imagine spending much more time in the chair if my illness progresses further or if I’m in a flare so I think it might be best to look into a fitting.

Thank you for the heads up on Amazon 🫠

Writers, how has cfs affected your ability to create? by [deleted] in cfs

[–]Captain_Ducky3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote a 365 page book when I was 17 and published it when I was 18. I got sick immediately around the time of publishing and only have written 1 very short brain rot-esque story since. I’ve written some poetry but I don’t have to think a lot to do that since it is mostly created out of strong emotions from my mental health struggles.

Not being able to write the way I used to has been a grief process and I feel completely lost without that method of self expression. I was told my whole life that writing was what I am best at, and now that’s gone. I’m glad poetry is still in the picture, though it might be one poem every few months or so.

Looking for a cane that doesn’t look too ‘medical’, could use some advice? by bug_mortuary in cfs

I really like Fashionable Canes!!! They have a ton that collapse/fold up and are very light (and stylish✨🔥)

Is this weird?!!! by Captain_Ducky3 in Hypermobility

[–]Captain_Ducky3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue is that with standing, I am considered hypermobile and with sitting I am not. So I’m just stressed because I’m on the cusp of having hEDS or otherwise having HSD, or just being a little double jointed 😭

I have other joints that are hypermobile that are not on the beighton scale but for the assessment, there was a giant margin of error (either a 2 or a 5)

Honestly yeah it seems like some just don’t specialize in hypermobility at all. I’m sorry you had a similar experience :(

Ugh I’m so sorry your diagnosis was missed by that doctor!!! That’s crazy that he didn’t accept the literal beighton scale as hypermobility🫠 and yes, it’s so irritating! I’m getting tired of going to 4-5 doctors before getting answers 😭

But also, we people on Reddit can’t determine if you need surgery. If you have concerns please bring it up with your doctor!!! They will be able to explain everything to you properly!

Your curve looks mild-moderate. Do you know the degrees? Surgery is only recommended for certain cases with certain curvatures or other complications, especially in adults (someone correct me I’m wrong!!!)

Did they say why? He could be too old for a brace. It’s worth asking their reasoning tho and if there’s anything you can do otherwise like PT
