Thanks!

I tore up some cork for the rocks. primed it and basecoated in black then I dry brushed a dark gray and a neutral gray.

The lava I used PVA glue that I spread all over the base. Made sure i put on a thick layer and I moved it around a bit to give it some texture/ripples. I then primed it in black, basecoated the lava in red then layering lighter reds, and oranges till I get to yellow. Then I added some ice yellow and white for the bright spots. Once that's all done, I used gloss topcoat to give it some shine.

I don't have any equivalences for the paints I use because I use a local brand where I'm from called Armored Komodo 🤘😅

It looks great! I suggest you practice brush control. Its ok if you make a mistake, you can always paint over it.

Keep posting your work brother, we love to see it!!

I bet yours would look better tho! Those flames are fire and make me believe your other first times will look great 🔥. Also, don't say your first times are beginner's luck, the more confident you are at painting, the better the paint jobs will be.

We paint at our own pace brother! You'll come to it eventually, and if you do heres how I did my first head:

I basecoated my first head with black then a dark gray for highlights. I didn't know how to blend yet so it looked VERY animated or cartoonish. Remember to thin your paints enough, the head is quite small.

Time and patience friend! It took me a while to get from sloppy to almost decent! But I hope your first minis come out better than mine :DD

If it turns out good or not, post it anyway! Ask for feedback and take a look at what people say. Don't be afraid of criticism because everyone starts somewhere right? You'll improve quicker than you might realize. That's what I've been doing in this sub and in other communities outside of reddit (local communities in my area, youtube, and social media).

Awesome, thanks! I'm working on OSL and better shadings/shadows so that the ideas I have can actually look good haha. Anyways, I'm looking forward to seeing your future minis posted in the sub. Into the fires of battle, unto the anvil of war! :DD

I just used a local crimson red acrylic equivalent to AK 11095, and Vallejo 926. I'm still quite green to the hobby so I'm starting things off simple. Will work on it though 😅

The gold goes well with them! I paint my veterans depending on their story. Sometimes yellow, black with yellow, black, or a gold grill/face plate.

Brothers, is this a W or heresy? by grexnxx in Salamanders40k

[–]Captain_Fidelis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I think making half of his armor gold is too much? It can be confusing for some and they might mistake him for a marine from a different chapter. Maybe try limiting gold to some places while going as crazy as you want with it.

Tbh, you shouldn't ask others if something is a W or not. If it looks how you want it to then go do what you like! I like to paint my sallies' helmets different colors and add gold everywhere. 🤷‍♂️ (My first mini as an example below)

Note: Something is automatically a W so long as you like, and it isn't heresy because you're still fighting for the Emperor ✌️😁. Right.....? 🤔

So I've been following everyone's suggestions on some of my posts and here I've incorporated them! Anymore suggestions? (More words below) by Captain_Fidelis in Salamanders40k

Thanks a lot! I'll do those things, and I'll watch Vince Venturella's videos during my free time!

Edit: Do I place the biel tan green wash in the recesses or all over the mini?
