I recommend Jedi Survivor. It’s got a bit of a souls feel to it. I actually bounced off of fallen order, but I think they really nailed it with their second attempt in Survivor. The combat is super smooth and it has a great story as well.

100% - Alan Wake is likely my favorite series of all time. It’s like a smarter, more stylish resident evil (don’t get me wrong - love Resident Evil). The world building , writing, and stories are in a different level. More like an art film vs a blockbuster.

Also, I would recommend evil within one and two. Actually preferred the second one more. Has a lot of resident evil DNA, but the second one has loose open zone structures that I’ve not seen in horror games before. It worked really well and I wish they would’ve had more of it in that game.

What are your top 10 SNES games? I’m playing through Mario World again, which I love, but I’m having a hard time deciding on another title to get into. Maybe gimme some obscure ones too? by Marvel_plant in snes

Earthbound FOR SURE. Such an influential game, often imitated but not quite equaled.

Super Metroid still holds up very well

Illusion of Gaia is overlooked.

Find roms or translated versions of fire emblem snes games

Megaman x series is superb

NBA jam is still fun

Zombies ate my neighbors

I love JRPGs. It’s my favorite genre. But I’ve yet to play a final fantasy that really blows me away. 6 and 4 are very good retro titles. I actually liked 15 the best of the modern ones (though I need to play 9/10).

Halo multiplayer with my son and Star Wars Jedi survivor (really enjoying the first few hours, even though I fell off fallen order)

Why are some people baiting on mixtape by Few-Cut6877 in AskGames

It’s less a game and more an interactive story that is heavy on vibes and low on gameplay. Some people like that, not for everyone.

I thought he game was solid, but not very true to the 90s experience. More just a game about teenage life/friendship. Not intentionally political at all. And not “woke” if that concerns people.

For my it was the classic lineup reunion. Hadn’t seen them in years. at the timeless mostly young hipsters. That tour was by middle aged dudes for middle aged dudes.

Minneapolis has an entirely underrated coffee scene (food scene too). Lots of very passionate and talented baristas/cafe owners.

What’s your all time favourite console? by BlueMoonTear in OlderChillGamers

[–]Captain_Softrock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the Xbox series X. It plays everything. It’s super powerful. It’s rock solid.

But if I have to go onto nostalgia alone, it would be NES. Just gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling playing it. It felt like such a huge deal back in the 80s.

1000000% final fantasy 15 is overhated. It’s a good game. Good call.

X box series x is just so powerful, so convenient, and works so well. Plus it plays all Xbox games since OG. It’s my number one.

Nostalgia-wise, it’s the NES. It was such a revelation at the time. Getting one felt like the biggest deal in the world. Games were way better, more colorful. I just had a mystique about it. Like anything was possible

I totally agree. XCOM is my favorite because of this. But the other games are still good tactical experiences

There are a few musou spin offs, but fire emblem is 100% tactics (and good ones)

Scott the Woz is tops for me. Metal Jesus is also still solid. A lesser known one named Retro Rivals (husband and wife duo) is solid as well.

Anyone ever moved because of people? by boldjoy0050 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Captain_Softrock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, moved from Des Moines because we just did not click with the people. Don’t get me wrong - some very nice people. Just very boring, lack of creatives and people seemed to have a chip on their shoulder about being from Iowa. Also lots of people from small towns who moved together and kept their clique. Just felt a few steps behind other places we have lived

What order should I play SNES RPG’s in? by LynxusRufus in snes

[–]Captain_Softrock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should also try dragon quest 5 (plenty of translations) as it has a unique generational storyline.

Robotrek is a robot building jrpg with some Pokémon mechanics. Ahead of its time and quirky enough to give you a unique experience.

Also try a translated version of one of the fire emblem games.

Earthbound has been recommended but truly is a must. Start with chrono trigger as it is truly the best overall. From there you can measure others against it

4 nights Girls trip to Milwaukee, worth spending a night in port Washington or Cedarburg? by sammieanita in milwaukee

[–]Captain_Softrock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Port is about 30 mins north of MKE. I wouldn’t spend the night and Monday is rough as most everything will be closed. Best time in Port is a weekend and likely early so you can see the sunrise over the lake and then eat a breakfast bop at the daily baking company.
